Television Harry Potter TV series

Premiers in 2027, long way to go still.

Any word out yet who they're casting for Harry, Ron and Hermione? Someone like Zendaya for Hermione would be cool, thought they'd been talking about giving the role to a person of color?
Aside from the obvious which @Alex99 mentions. They did an open casting for those roles. It will be the same as the movies where it's unknown child actors I imagine.

Ah okay, I read somewhere that it would be adult actors all around but that makes sense.

EDIT: no idea why I thought that was legit, actually

The obvious choices are Jack Black as Sirius Black, the Rock or Batista as Hagrid and Christopher Walken as Professor Snape.

Also need to put Pedro Pascal in there...just because.

Makes the Lithgow casting even more concerning if the aim is 7 seasons with 2 years between seasons (industry standard these days)

The counterpoint is, how much does it actually matter to anyone making this show?

If Lithgow dies it will be a shame (especially for Lithgow) but they'll just replace him with a different actor like countless films and TV shows have done in the past, including the actual Harry Potter films with the very same character.

It's just not that much of a concern. If a new Dumbledore has to come in at some point then they'll do that and continue on pretty much as before.

Lithgow has such a unique voice and mannerism that recasting him will feel so much worse than say Dario from game of thrones or something but yeah I guess you're right

It's not too much of an issue but it is noticeable in the movies how different the Dumbledores are. OG Dumbledore Harris was better than Gambon.

They're not going to be able to do that here unless they're also planning on re-casting all of the kids.

They were looking for 9-11 year olds to audition for Harry, Ron and Hermione, so you're looking at 11-13 year olds playing 11-year-olds in the first season. If they released on a schedule of every other year, that'd leave them gambling on the 23-25 year olds they'd have playing 17-year-olds not simply looking like they were in their mid-20s. Leave it any longer between seasons and they'll pushing 30 by the time it's finished.

Don't think he matched book Dumbledore at all.
Agree, Harris had this wise, old, calm guy vibe going on which was great. Gambon was too energetic imo, e.g. his reaction after Harry's name comes out of the Goblet of Fire. Got better towards the end but still Harris easily clears for me.
