Id have preferred to see character development and building of major characters like Sirius, Lupin et al.
100% this. Would have been much better than rehashing the movies into a series.

Exactly. So I want to see their development from obnoxious pricks in the last one or two years of school, to then taking the fight to Voldemort with the Order etc., coupled with the world becoming more fearful of this new dark wizard and his cronies. Seeing Snape and Malfoy etc. becoming who they did.The issue is, from all the snippets we got, James Potter and Sirius Black were obnoxious pricks for most of their student life.
US actor John Lithgow has said he is "excited" to be playing Dumbledore in the forthcoming Harry Potter TV series, adding that the role is "going to define me for the last chapter of my life".
The makers of the new show are currently assembling their cast, and while no official announcements have been made yet, the veteran Oscar-nominated star appears to have confirmed he will play the Hogwarts headmaster.
I very much doubt that’s the reason they’re doing one season per book.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cgj2971zx1yo
Without tempting fate, are they doing a season for each book because he's 79 years old...
Huh? I'm just worried if they do a season for each book he will die before it's finished.I very much doubt that’s the reason they’re doing one season per book.

Depends how they do it, as Dumbledore was featured in all of the movies.I don't want to spoil it for you, but Lithgow doesn't need to make it to the end.
I'm now watching Dexter so this will be weird.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cgj2971zx1yo

Is Dumbledore described as tall in the books?
Yes, he’s described as tallIs Dumbledore described as tall in the books? Bc John is rather tall by Hollywood standards. Even when surrounded by other adults it kind of stands out. Though clearly his posture has worsened with age.

Just so we are clear, John Lithgow is the one on the right

Sounds like me, except the old part.I believe he's described as old, bearded and well-endowed.
Does she have any say about the TV adaptation? They should cast a trans person just to piss her off.Reminder that you probably shouldn't support Rowling's work.

Lithgow is a great choice.
It's not for 30 year olds, though. It's for children. The books and films were made for children and this TV show will be as well.Only learned they’re doing it now - there’s absolutely no creativity in Hollywood these days, so many remakes and this is another proof. All the money and resources in the world and they go for an adaptation of a story that’s much inferior to the world created by the book. I loved HP as a child and teenager and it was great growing up with those books, but they’re not particularly well written and the plot is weak and childish, the strength really only was in the wizarding world. No idea why anyone above 30 yo would watch it these days other than nostalgia or introducing your children to the franchise

HBO aren't spending the sort of money being reported for this just for children to watch it. A massive section of their target audience will be stereotypically Harry-Potter-obsessed millenials in their 30's/40's.
And watch it they will.

Since it's HBO we will get some scenes of Professor McGonagall half naked for no reason too. Hubba hubba.
Bonus caber tossing scene.I can't wait to see Hagrid's cock in 8k.
We've had enough Brits pretending to be Americans. Time to correct the balance.I thought Rowling only wanted British and Irish actors? Or does she have less say these days on account of being an absolute gowl
Matt Damon as Harry PotterPremiers in 2027, long way to go still.
Any word out yet who they're casting for Harry, Ron and Hermione? Someone like Zendaya for Hermione would be cool, thought they'd been talking about giving the role to a person of color?

Not sure a 28-year-old (30 in 2027) is going to pass as an 11-year-old
