I do think that we will offer 75million before the week ends. Ole wants tie up this deal quickly.

There are a couple in the Maguire mould they could be looking at. Kempf at Stuttgart or Eboa Eboa at Guingamp.

There is Jhon Lucumi at Genk as well who I am waiting for someone to roll the dice on. There is so much potential there.

There may be, but the point is Leciester and their scouts probably don't think there is (well I am presuming) but they took a hit on that talented Turkish guy last season and he hardly played and looked out of his depth when he did. 70 Million is loads for Maguire - far past his value but Leciester ( a rich enough club) are probably looking at it and thinking well what would we even do with the money and therefore would rather keep the player.

If Leicester turn down £70m then feck em.
I think our back line has been at the very least an equally large issue, I'd argue it's the main source of our problems due to a lack of technical quality back there totally jarring with how we try to play, both in our FBs who get more space than anyone else and our CBs who start (limply) almost every move.

We scored 65 last year, not great but not miles off, we conceded 54. GD 11 which is almost half of our competitors.

Both need overhaul and recruitment but I think it's very likely that our midfield and forwards are being severely hampered by the lack of quality at the back.

Not saying slabhead solves that problem, I'm a fan of his but 70m is the absolute max I'd pay and even that makes me gag a little.

Miss u on fifa bro <3

I like Maguire (maybe not enough for 70m..) but a Lindelof - Maguire partnership doesn't strike me with confidence.
I think either require a pacy, robust player next to them. Ironically Diop-Maguire would be excellent, imo

According to BBC we bid but Leicester hasn’t reject it but they do value him higher, I would say don’t take the bait and keep it as £70m. If they say no then so be it. They should accept it, it’s crazy fees for a centre back.
Agreed. Leave it at 70 mil and start bidding on an alternative as well.

Good player, instantly makes us better, but very overpriced.

At this stage we just need to improve so im all in no matter the cost

Positives: maguire is very good on the ball, has a deep playmaker ability.

He is great in the air

He is English and a leader

Might offer them another 5m in add ons but if they reject that try a 85m bid for Koulibaly.

Didn't they reject £90m at some point and said they want in excess of £130m?

The Ice Slab partnership. I like the ring of it.

Is he now good enough now that it's not Mourinho getting him?
He's always been good enough, it's just whether he's good enough to justify the kind of fee that Leicester wants, which personally I don't believe he is.

Am I correct in saying Jose wanted Maguire last summer and the board refused to sanction the bid.

Ed was reported to have said that we could sanction that kind of money for a player like Varane but couldn't justify that kind of money for Maguire iirc
Seems strange we are willing to sign him now

I don't mind signing him but we are getting fleeced here.

I think the argument from our board back then was we literally just gave you Lindelof and Bailly... now it is clear that Bailly can't be relied upon along with Smalling and Jones.

He's a good player, would he be our best defender? yes! But would it be a significant improvement? not really, so do we want to pay more than 70mil for him?

Personly Don't think we should be buying any centre backs till we find a buyer for at least 2 of the 6 we have.

I'd say he'd make us a threat from corners, but the ball would have to reach him first...

He will help to teach us Southgate's conga routine from the WC, once we have that nailed The Slab will be banging them in from set-pieces.

I'd agree with what most here are saying; joke money but he'll improve an area in which we are desperate for a boost, so I'm in.

Would be the worst transfer I can remember in football. We are spending 70 million on Phil Jones 2

Correct.

Smalling and Diop would be a good partnership imo. Please no HM but as this is now gone public i’ll be pleasantly surprised if we don’t come to an agreement with Leicester ☹️

Personally, I would look elsewhere but the club probably feels it cannot afford another gamble. They would pay that kind of fee for someone reliable with no chance of being WC.

I’m probably one of the people on here who’ve seen him the least. Still, I don’t understand the massive shitstorm in here.

Imo he’s a very good CB. Dominant in the air, decent passing, he’s got a cool head and is brave in braking trough lines with the ball at his feet. 70 is a lot, of course, but realistically we’d have to pay around that for a ready made upgrade in that position. He scores some goals during the season too.

out of all the defenders we are linked with Maguire is the one I don't want. God forbid if we try to play a high line or a high pressing game. Slow as a wet week.

Would rather we sign Alderwield and then let Tuanzebe maybe grow into a quality centre back

I’m all for it. We’d only need another CM and hopefully a right sided attacker (provided Pogba stays put). RB, CB, CM and RW/RM was my wishlist going into the new season.

A partnership of Linderlof and Maguire doesnt exactly bring much confidence. I can imagine us getting caught in behind constantly.

We can only upgrade one player at a time. If thats the case, next summer we may upgrade Lindelof?

Why do we always start at the most we should pay for a player?

While other clubs starts low & make their way up eventually meeting half way- like Arsenal with Zaha . With the added bonus of destabilising the player.

I think he's overpriced but would definitely improve us. We need a leader at the back so badly.

I think we will get him now, seems like we love to get one over City. City should start bidding for Mbappe, Neymar, Griezmann, Eriksen, De Ligt now.

You have to pick your games. Maguire and lindelofs supposed ball playing ability should be a dream ticket in games where the opposition shows zero attacking intent.
Other games you need more pace next to maguire
