Harry Maguire | Signed

This sounds like Palace. Dunk is NOT leaving Brighton for any team and this has been the stance from the beginning, not for £45 million. Local insider opinion vs merely paper talk.

It will then be Jones or Rojo + cash, or maybe a loan for Tuanzebe. Something will be worked out

Well the value or anything, player or otherwise, is different for everyone. The value of Maguire might be higher for Leicester than for us, it also can change quickly at any time.

Barcelona bought a lot of expensive players, but they were clearly not close to worth it, so they will have massively dropped in value.

Also player prices generally will go up, but they can also go down. This summer window clearly the big teams have thought to themselves they have been overpaying for players, and are not making those mistakes again. Demand has dropped, and so prices will drop a bit.

Maguire simply is not worth 80+ for our team imo, it wont make that much difference.
But maguire at the team he is at, with his current contract situation IS worth £80m in the current market.

You might not value the player at £80m but the market does.

We all wet ourselves at VVD for £75m but the market has changed, whether you accept it or not it’s just a fact

I honestly couldn't care anymore regarding United and their joke transfer dealings.. Its dragging out far too much and became a farce long ago.. Im tired of hearing literally the same shit every day with absolutely nothing happening. All should have been wrapped up a long time ago..

There are 9 days left until the window shuts. Woodward and whatever other monkeys he has doing these dealing have shown me nothing that says to me they will sign even one more player in this timeframe... Jobsworths the lot of them.

And it just means Ole is stuck with the same charlatans he finished with last season. Woodward's scapegoat its looking like he's being stitched up as.

It's still real to me dammit.

You’ve fundamentally misunderstand how value is calculated.

The Value of anything is based entirely on the market.

It’s not Leicester’s fault the market has gone mad, but to say they shouldn’t ask for £80m when that’s the market rate is naive and silly.

Thats the market rate for a centre back really? So how many centre backs have been sold for £80m in the last few years or ever for that matter?

The point is whether his net benefit to United would be worth 80m.

Oh what i would give for optimism right now!

The ineptitude of our transfer proceeding this window has left me unbelievably bored and without any faith in them at all

We see it as ineptitude but we don't really know what's cracking off behind the scenes.

Anyway, blind optimism works for me ... Followed by crushing disappointment

How many top teams have bought a ready made CB?

De Ligt a potential was £65m
Milito to Madrid - £45m and he is 21.

VVD to Liverpool took 18 months.

Dont really remember the any drama around that until the final price was announced. This on the other hand, was happening last year. Then it wasnt, then it was, then it wasnt etc. The window closed, jose had a bitch fit and got sacked. Here we are again. Its on, its off, its on, hes taking a shit, its off blah blah blah. I just dont remember the same level of its on its off as this one.

Also, it was just a crappy little joke.

You can keep saying the market does, but it just shows you do not understand how values work. The buyers decide the value for purchasing. No other club is willing to pay 80 million, and if we do not either than his value currently is lower than 80 million. He does not have much demand.

VVD to Liverpool took 18 months.

The reason VVD took longer and it wasnt 18 months, is that Liverpool illegally tapped him up, Southampton had to lodge a complaint hence Liverpool backed off and signed him in Jan.

All prices are a made up valuation. Footballers aren't in the Argos catalogue.

Maybe you need to educate yourself on compensation fees and transfer fees before you start talking about shopping in Argos.

This summer or ever?

Not sure what any of that has to do with my post though.

Wow, that is a first! I am going to go buy a new can and say I want to pay half the amount sorry. I don't value it more?

When was last time you bought something?

It wasn't in the papers all that time. But the negotiations were happening for a very long time in the background. Most big transfers do.

Don't trust in Twitter to give you the whole story.

I guess we'll see whether you are correct or not, but seems like a reasonable move to me and Brighton know that Leicester will have ~£80m burning a hole in their pocket and are now desperate, so the price increases to a very high level.

Do you even understand the difference between value and price? Do you understand the difference between the market and the individual?

Juventus got Pogba from United for £0.8m compensation. If you think that was his value at the time, you're mental.

I never go on twitter, or social media in general. This place, talksport and the bbc sports gossip page are my only contact with this stuff. Thats why I dont see very much. So Im sure youre right.

Erm, his contract expired. So what was they paying for? His future earnings? They paid what it would have cost us to get him up to that stag of his development.

This place is effectively a new aggregator for Twitter, every single newspaper, every single radio station, every single TV station, every single journalist, etc. etc.

None? But that’s not what I said. I said current market value.

Transfer fees have been inflating since the PL started and have been skyrocketing since. What would have been considered market value has obviously changed.

It’s silly to say no defender has ever cost £80m because the market today is hyper inflated. If you take Ferdinands transfer fee from 2002 at £39 million and inflate it in line with how prices have Increased it would now be over £90 million...

You could argue maguire isn’t the same player Ferdinand was when he moved, and that would be fine, but you take in to consideration how much money Leicester have, the fact they don’t need to sell, his contract length, the fact He’s likely to be a future England captain and the fact that Leicester see themselves as challenging for a top spot and the fact that Van dijk cost £75m from Southampton a year ago then you can quite easily conceive that you could ask for £80m in this market.

He’s not. It broke late on we wanted him. Got quoted £70m and that was that. There was no trying to meet valuations having a bad belly blah blah blah. We are clearly putting in more effort this time instead of our Man City type approach for him this year.

You seem to be getting a bit confused mate, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. The current owner doesn't have to sell of course but if they do then they can't set whatever price they want and expect that someone will definitely pay it.

either way, given that our final preseason match is on Saturday, it's pretty much certain that we don't sign a CB in time to play him once before the season starts - and that feels like a failure in its own. We move agonisingly slow, it's super frustrating.

Are you sure you didn't say market rate mate?

Great presentation all the same, but none of that changes the fact that £80m isn't the going market rate for centre backs. It may well be before long but lets wait until at least one goes for that price shall we.

So what would you say the going rate is ? £75m?

I am sure they have tried this. I think you need to realise you are negotiation with other football people, businessmen who are not mugs.

I beg to differ. There are some businessmen who absolute mugs. Woodward has been taken to the cleaners many a time.

Your not going to win the CL if your not in it mate.

This did make me laugh.
Good one.

Worth and value are the same. The quality of the player and how valuable he is to his current club AND the buyer.

Price is about the market.

I’d disagree slightly I think you’ve just shown the difference between worth and value in your post

Worth is how much the player is objectively priced at based on his quality or skill and value includes worth but then adds on how valuable he is to his current club and how valuable he is compared to similar players that have been sold.

Starting to think we should look at alternatives this deal isn't worth so much time wasting as big a fan of HM I am

Can someone please, once and for all, explain to me what is the difference between value, worth and price?

Famous quote: “There is no value in the market”. As if to show all players are priced higher than their real worth should be.

Lingard represents value to the club if they use him as a squad player. If we were to sell him, given the wages he is on, his market price might be close to £10m, so the club would need to buy a replacement player for £30-50m. To many of us fans, when we see how he plays, he is worth shit.
