The injury to Bailly should serve as a reminder to Ole (and Woody) that our central defenders are painfully unreliable and recruitment in that area is essential.

There is a simple answer to your perceived need. Its not like its a bombshell. Pay the asking price or live with what you have. Surely you are not dependant upon the Lukaku sale to sign Harry are you?

Completely unrelated to Bailly’s injury but Maguire’s valuation has just gone up a few bob.
It shouldn't have to be like that. Last seasons horrific defensive record should be reason alone.
Ole probable already knows this but Woody with his vast amount of football knowledge thinks he knows better and that we will be ok.

At this point I dont think were getting this over the line based on leicester valuation of maguire. Cant really blame woodward because he isn't even a 60 million rated defender. He has shown in the past that he is willing to spend whatever is necessary if the player is worth it. I think our scouts might have failed us in not being able to find any quality CB in the 60m range. I just cant seem to understand how theres nobody right now that can replace smalling and jones. Smalling can defend but cant play basic football while jones is a disaster waiting to happen.
Also Im guessing we arent as rich as woodward would like us to think. We have so many players still at the club, sanchez/lukaku/rojo/darmian on huge contracts. Does anybody feel this might be a reason woodward is hesitant in overpaying for maguire? He's done it for lukaku and matic so whats the holdup now?

Yes and no, I just think Woodward is incompetent , pure and simple.
If we don't get a decent midfielder and defender this slot then he is even more incompetent. But, his biggest mistake as you rightly say is not getting rid of players and I think the huge wage bill and deadwood is holding him back.

If that were really true then he'd be 'injured' like Lukaku is to help avoid actual injury

Get Maguire and a MF and its a good window. Sell Lukaku and bring in a cheap enough replacement and that would also be good.

Hopefully it's true. The question is, how could Sky know what OGS has told to Woodward?
This will be an important signing if we get it done. Our back 5 will be sorted and we can look to adding quality more to the midfield. He is who the manager wants and he's worth whatever we can afford.
