err that's my point: let's not buy him because City didn't!

So we should stop buying players because City are not interested in him.

Why did we buy AWB and Daniel James? If they aint good enough for city we shouldn't have bought them

That is pathetic thinking IMO, all managers have different styles of play, and targets.

Harry Maguire just liked a picture on Triplesports Instagram page of James Garner on United's pre season tour

Genius, can't believe Ole didn't think of that already

It's not Ole who thinks up the contractual financial figures. I believe it's Matt Judge and Woodward who come up with that.
And it would not surprise me if they haven't thought of that. Nothing surprises me when it comes to Woodward's work.

We should just walk away from this, even by the modern transfer market, the price is ridiculous and it's fast becoming a saga. Teams will take you to the cleaners if you let them. To put things into perspective, Lyon have signed Joachim Anderson for 24 million euros plus 6 million bonus. That's all less than £30m.

90m is crazy money. Offer 60m and then 30m bonus if we win CL and he wins ballon d'or in same year. That would do.

I am sure they have tried this. I think you need to realise you are negotiation with other football people, businessmen who are not mugs.

Your not going to win the CL if your not in it mate.

Where did all these Leicester fans come from all of a sudden? Did they all just join to inform us it’s not happening or what’s the story:lol:

Pretty much, and to tell us how their owners have set a valuation and how it’s up to united to meet it. Much like every other transfer in football.

I'd offer them 60m upfront and 500m if we win the Qatar World Cup.

Getting soooo bored of this saga, if it was for a world class centre back then fair enough, but all this over Harry fecking Maguire, getting to the point where we should just bin the fecker off and promote Axel.

I know it seems like a lot of you guys don't want the guy, and I was pretty skeptical myself, and very much so for the price quoted.
I also know that watching one video of his best performances, tackles and passes means he doesn't feck up.
But, we need a good, strong centre back next to Lindelöf. Someone who can dominate in the air, in our own and in our opositions box.
The guy is proven in the league, he is a pretty decent passer, very comfortable with the ball at his feet and his big head just pounds in headers. There's a reason they aim at him on deadballs in the national team.

I've also read a lot of comments that he's not that much better than Smalling. I thought he might be a bit better, but after seeing some clips of him it kinda tips me over the edge.
The way he progresses the ball at his feet is just rediculous. Not just that, he fecking dribbles past attackers in his own half and to top it off he actually finds teammates on the opponents half and don't just pass it to one of the other defenders.
Smalling can do maybe half of one of those things, and he's allowed to roam to the halfway line because everybody knows he couldn't pick an attack pass if our team was the only players on the pitch.

Regarding the price you have to pay to get a proven PL defender, and because he is tied down for several more years it'll cost us extra as well. If he is the last piece of the puzzle that is our defence, then pay the money.

Now lay it on me, I'm pretty sure some of you want to bring the hate or just disagree with me.
Also added a video of him, the ball progression part was just absurd.

I agree, just get him in. We need a Cb, he is not fans 1st choice there will be no CB available that fans agree on. Ole wants him, we backing Ole, give him the tools he thinks he needs to succeed.

I can see how this goes though.. Ole doesn't get what he wants starts ok, players downtools and we are in the same position again sacking a manager new manager. Sick and tired of it now.

He's worth 80m for that goal against the dippers alone tbh.

I think he'll be a great player for the big games if he signed for us. He seems to have that extra level of motivation when it's a big game. I can imagine him going right through Salah at Anfield

People are laughing at me suggesting that we could go for Maguire in January but when did Liverpool buy Van Dijk?

I think Leicester have way bigger expectations than what the reality is when it comes to the valuation of the player. And I believe Ole has the proper mindset, in the sense that it's better to wait a bit longer on our main targets instead of overreacting and going for someone not suitable to what we want for our development.

Another issue with all that is the club seems unable to sell any player, like at all. We can't massively overpay for a CB when we have 6 other ones on the books.

Definitely been a nuisance against us as well.

If Leicester are struggling they would want to keep him to make sure they move up. If they are doing well why would they jeopardize it? Needs to be now so they can sign a replacement

I'm sure Southampton wanted to keep Van Dijk as they were in a bad spot too but the player seriously pushed for a move and the club had to oblige in the end, even if they were left pissed off at Liverpool for apparently tapping up the Dutchman.

Same thing could happen with Maguire and it's up to him to make that choice now or wait and see what the future holds.

Fantastic news that you actually get it because, sadly, quite a few of your fellow posters patently don't. Update from our end, the clocks ticking and absolutely no further developments.

But it isn’t him that’s holding off the move, it’s just us not wanting to pay it just yet. If you’re talking about pushing for a move it doesn’t seem that it’s in his DNA. I truly think we’ll meet it.

If we're going for a centre back he's got to be the one. Especially if K2 is only available at 120/130m.

Think we'll get this done before the window closes.

But can we please sack whoever it was that decided he wasn't worth it while at Hull or last season when lcfc quoted us 60m.

Just can't believe this has gone from a massive crescendo, of looking very close to being done - official stories of 70m bid, a few people/outlets breaking it as being done, then 10 days on - utterly gone cold.

So cold, that my post is the first one in around 3hours!

I think the player himself is going to have to stick his neck out a bit here and try help us get this deal done. I think we will get him still but we can’t be close at the moment given he played last night

The trophies have long dried up. And now we can’t even do transfer sagas anymore.

Christ sake, United!

I would offer them 60 £ mill. And if you guys him as a world class CB. At a staight 80 £ mill price. I will pay you 20 mill add on if United win premier league in the next 4 years. A world record price for a CB, mean he has to help us to win premier in the next 4 years.

No add on for top 4. Because we believe our current CBs can help us to get top 4. Smalling 2 times premier league champion and Jones 1 time champion. Injury free. We believe them can get us into top 4.

So we don’t rate and value Maguire as a world class or best CB in the world. To deserve a world record fee. But if time will tell that you guys are rite. That he will win the premier league with us, in the next 4 years. You guys will get the last 20 that we are not agree about.

60 £ mill + 20 mill add on/premier league winner in the next years. It is the max we can and will offer you guys.

If not, how much are you willing to sell your young CB Benkovic from Kroatia? He is still on a development and process of getting use to pace, tough british football style. Not a end product yet. So we will offer you 30 mill £ + 5 add on if he become a regular starter for us in the next 3 years.

For those who don’t know. Leiceister have a really good and promising CB in Benkovic. He is really good to tackle and as tall as Maguire. And the boy is from Kroatia. So he has good basic ball skills. Passing and run with ball.

As a scout. I have Benkovic on my notebook and i am watching and following his development. A one to watch out. So you might deal more with Leicester in the future. So maybe Leicester have a Maguire replacement in Benkovic already, if Maguire join United.

And working as a scout. I believe and trust on promising and upcoming CB and football players. So those are ones i recommend. Future regular starter for their nation and will dominate International football on top level.
Benkovic has huge potential as a CB and his current level is definitive top 6 level.

So if they dont agree 60 mill plus 20 add on. Then we will buy yours another CB. Build for the future. Maguire will strength us and our team, but not enough to help us to win premier league in the next 4 years.

In the end. I really want to know later. Why Leicester are value Maguire at world record price for a CB. A World record = world best CB. Like Pogba world record. Mbappe world best striker, even 200 mill £ was too much. Or they know or get the feeling United are desperate for a CB. A world record price is a wrong vaulation, even its not wrong if are willing to pay for that.

So they think they are right about the valuation. I think im right. If not the first offer. Let us meet in the middle. You value him 80 mill. I value him 60. In the middle, 70 mill with no add on. Last offer and you guys have two offer to consider. If not sell us Benkovic.

@LuckyScout78 the problem is these feckers don’t even accept higher valuation.

Another problem is that we need a CB improvement IMMEDIATELY. Someone who is head and shoulders above this bunch of Rojos, Baillys and Jones that play and concede goals.

We need a defender who is MUCH BETTER than what we already have, and who has traits that we need. Do you know many such defenders? Among them do you know at least anyone who is cheaper than Maguire?
