He will go a level up here. With Wan Bissaka and hopefully Dave finding his form again, we could be a wall defensively. Only needs a DM cleaning in front of the defense, someone decent on the ball with a good engine, like Partey.

Miguel Delaney has never broken a story and rarely has got anything right. Would ignore him.

Why do people care about the transfer fee ? it's not our money.

Do you think that city's supporters care that Laporte was bought for 57 mil ? or Walker for 50 mil a couple of years ago ? or Mangala for 42 mil and he hardly play ? No, they spent the money, they are only caring about the titles they got.

He's better than anything we have. He's proven in the PL. He's good on the ball and Ole wants him. I don't really care about how much we're spending to get him.

And for the people that are saying they'd rather get Koulibaly for the 100 mil he would cost. Well, he's a bigger gamble in the PL as he never player there and would probably need a season to get used to it. If you factor in the fact that he's 28 compared to Maguire who's 26. There's no contest for me, Maguire is the better buy.

Nothing solid to be fair, and probably just my personal bias against this deal but it has never felt like he is an absolute priority for City. Of course it highly likely I am wrong.

Let us hope this ends up better than the last 2 times we "beat" City to players, Sanchez and Fred.

He was immense defensively in their match at the Etihad at the end of last season, remember they won it with Kompany putting it in the top corner from 30 yards after struggling to score.

Mild interest is not bidding 60 million for a player

Some fans are like that. They love to moan and bash everything about the club.

Bidding 60 mil is nowhere near a 'mild' interest, especially when you already have multiple CBs that you bought for big sums.

How limiting is Maguire's slow movement if our defence plays deep and force teams to take long shots at De Gea? We'd probably end up with pockets of space between the midfield and defense if we had to rely on Matic slowly wandering about in that area.
Especially if we continue pressing like we have been doing. Recipe for disaster. It's only worked with Man City and Barcelona because they're so far ahead of other teams that they control the ball the majority of the match. We might be able to do that this season but not to such an extent that it would erase Maguire's pace like Kompany and Pique's were.

Don't know why people still think Smalling will be getting much of a sniff next season. He may get cup run outs but barring a major injury crisis thankfully we won't be seeing much of him if we get the CB we're all expecting.
Sounds like what people say every year and then he waltzes back into the team and stays there.

The main positive of a few days of the latest "ITK"/press snippets, is we don't run through a tedious cycle of the below

  • He's slow innit
  • Fee's a bit tasty son
  • Kouibally - let's go for him - he's world class (even though I bet most haven't seen anything/much of him)

Yep - every manager tries to leave him out, then realises he's actually a good defender, and more reliable than the rest. However, appalling his passing is hyped up to be.

I'll admit I haven't been following our transfer rumours - is it really just Fernandes that we've also been looking at or do we have anyone who can fill that DM role for us?

The downsides are he's not a world class defender and likely is a minor upgrade if at all, is relatively slow and has the agility of a house.
Granted. He probably isnt world class. Do we need a CB? I think so. Who do you suggest? Lots of names being thrown around. Not easy to find a Vidic is it. Anyway. The new CB must be a good ball player. Hurts watching Smalling and Jones not to mention Rojo and Bailly. Toby on the cheap while brooding in Axel. ?

Yeah, but he is slow innit? We need to sign two defensively minded midfielders with explosive pace and give Pogba the AM role. This is my line up

-------------------DDG--------------------
AWB-Maguire-Lindelof-Shaw
-------Fernandes---Verrati---------
----------------Pogba--------------------
Hitler---------------------------Lingard
-----------------Lukaku-------------------

Our new CM is supposed to be Sean "The Next Carrick" Longstaff, aka Long Dong Ginger.

Perhaps a little too eager? Also, he risks being utterly deranged.

So Carrot Top, or Carrick Cake?

Sorry, tried to make a joke and it didn't work. If our solution is Longstaff then we're asking the wrong question.

Longstaff from Newcastle as well. But those rumours died down once Steve Bruce replaced Rafa a week or so ago.

I really hope we get this wrapped up soon. Would be lovely to have a good defence again. Would go a long way to stop the incredibly irritating string of losses and draws against clubs we should only draw against once every four years or so.

No way would Hitler turn out for Brexit FC, Rudolf Hess maybe.

Seeing how unbelievably good Wan Bissaka is, I think this transfer is an absolute necessity. The back five of De Gea, AWB, Maguire, Lindelöf and Shaw is probably as strong as anything in the league.

Also I think Maguire has the potential to do exactly what AWB has done and step his game up to the next level instantly. Still think we’ll get him, thought Ole’s smirk when he said “let’s see who’s here on August 8th” in his post match presser was quite telling

140 million on 2 defenders that have the potential to step up to the next level:cool:

Just 10 years ago less than that amount would have bagged ronaldo and aguero:cool:

That's how crazy football is now

10 years ago Barack Obama was inaugurated as the 44th president and the idea of Trump in the whitehouse would have been beyond anybodies wildest and most depraved imagination.

That is how crazy the world is.

I reckon the price of Maguire and AWB pales somewhat.

I agree - hopefully it will be Maguire, Tuanzebe, Lindelof and Bailly for most of the season.

My thoughts exactly.

Smalling is better than Bailly

I suspect he will be 3rd choice CB though personally I’d play him and Maguire together

No way is Smalling going to be 3rd choice. Playing him with Maguire would just be madness. He will just not suit the way we will be playing this season and going forward. Once Bailly learns to curb his enthusiasm and settle down, he'll be just fine. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what the lineups will be towards end of preseason but he will most likely battle for 5th choice with the other Chuckle Brother with 4th choice at best.

United turnover 10 years ago was around 279mil.

Now it's 630mil.

So it's no surprise that transfer fees have rocketed.

The irony of all this big spending in football is we can our afford it. Our wage to turnover ratio is below 50% and we spend within our means.

If it is confirmed then it’s a great bit of business - he’s a very good defender, natural leader, Man Utd fan, proven in the PL, great buy although over inflated.
Exactly the type of player we need. No settling in period - hits the ground running.
Let’s forget all these deluded suggestions of this player and that from Serie A or La Liga - they won’t adjust quickly to the PL or the Manchester climate - HM is a very very solid acquisition - really hope this goes through.

So to sum up today’s events:
  • Tier 1 LCFC ITK Sean from Enderby shared on twitter that this deal was definitively done and would be announced soon.
  • We know he can be trusted because he’s always said so.
  • Someone from the Bleacher Report (who follows Sean) tweeted that it was a done deal.
  • The Independent then picked that up, did an actual article about it.
  • Some people on here lost their minds.
  • FoxesTalk was also a bit of a mess.
  • The Independent reporter backtracked somewhat.
  • Sean’s alter ego Martin Cockshaw said earlier that Leicester City were about to buy Gareth Bale.
Basically, nothing’s happened, and there’s 18 days left of the window, before which Rodgers has asserted that there will be a cut off date too. The clock is ticking and the price is going up...
