Harry Maguire | Signed

The way some people talk about this dude one would think we'd be missing on Maldini if we don't buy him

I personally don't see anything special with him and don't understand the fuss from some posters.
Yep. Not worth the money but again we need reinforcements

Couldn't give two shits whether we sign him or not. It just needs to end quickly now as I still think we need someone in midfield an possibly on the right wing. Not much time left at all.

A deadline day signing if ever I saw one

Absolutely no chance Leicester would let you take Maguire on the last day of the window. The price has been set for 2 months, there’s 20 days to go and we have our own plans to make for the season to which Maguire will be integral. Rodgers has been very clear with this. He’s also been clear that there will be a deadline at which point we’ll refuse to do business. If I were Khun Top I’d be adding a million quid to the valuation a day just to make the point.

To be honest I can’t believe you’ve left it so late given the complete overhaul Ole needs to perform.

I have feeling this one aint going to happen, which I'd be disappointed about, because I think he would be very solid signing for us. What is even more disappointing is that we seem incapable of negotiating one deal at a time. Surely Manchester United have a team of people that can have more than 1 transfer dealings running at same time. If only we could shift some deadwood to be able to find the money to close deals. Spending 5m extra and getting top 4 is clearly better than not spending it and not getting Champions league. Thought ed would have learnt from last summer. Clearly not.

We would be silly to wait that long, we still need another centre mid and even a right winger.

Probably a striker too.
We certainly would, but if that's the case then we're definitely qualified.

From the Leicester Mercury:

“He’s been the same Harry that we know and love," Wes Morgan revealed after City's 2-1 pre-season win over Cheltenham Town. "You can see in the games he’s putting 100% effort into everything he does and his quality is there for everyone to see.

“Obviously I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future," he continued, "but for now he’s still a Leicester player and we enjoy having him here.

“Obviously there’s going to be speculation because he’s a top class player who has done well at international level. Big teams are going to take an interest and that goes for many of our top, top players. It’s part and parcel of the game.

“People want our best players and he is one of them."

Asked if Maguire had told his teammates he wants to leave, Morgan simply replied: “He’s not said nothing. You can’t believe everything you read, can you?"

Morgan also spoke about whether the City players have been giving Maguire stick in the dressing room over his proposed move to Old Trafford.

“No," he added with a grin. "We stay focussed. We are obviously in training, it’s the same old banter, the same old training.

"He’s part of Leicester so we just treat him the same.”

Personally still doubt this will go through

Money talks I guess. Let's see.

If I were Khun Top, I'd be looking into getting my name changed to something that sounds less asinine than "Khun Top".

I doubt Ed would have moved onto another target. This will probably be a last-minute deadline deal with us meeting Leicester price.

Good player and best we could do right now IMO. Him and Lindelof will be a good pairing. 80m for a player who is nowhere near world class sounds like a ripoff but I guess that's how it just goes these days.

What has @davidmichael ever done to you?

Look at wan bissaka and how instantly improved we look having just shelled out for the target we wanted even though we overpaid. I think maguire would have the same effect. I'd bite the bullet, pay the stupidity tax of mismanagement for so long and leaving us desperate. Bissaka and maguire would leave us one of the best defence options in the league.

Maybe next summer, Axel will be ready to step up. That's why I think we should go for a short-term option like Toby.

We’ve tried the short term fix for 6 years, it didn’t work. We ended up with more players we can’t sell. If Toby should croc during the season, he’s done. If the club truly can’t find anyone, we should forget it and move on. Spending another 25M for a 8month player is the continuity of the wastefulness that have plaque this club since SAF left.

The problem here is we don’t have a plan B and we don’t want to take another punt on unknown talent which is fair. We might as well be patient.

There'll be a game this season where Smalling partners Jones. Think about it. We need a new CB

There's nothing special about him. Like Jones and Smalling in few years back (before they turn shite), he just happened to be England international CB at right age, which is what we are looking at.

Personally I don't agree with this. AWB is much younger, his pace/energy and strong tackling really fit our style of play, and it is easy to tell he has much higher ceiling than Maguire. Maguire at 26 should be near his peak, he is decent but nothing special from what I've seen, but he is better than what we've got for sure, his strong aerial ability maybe useful against average premier league teams, but his lack of pace may not fit well in our game approach with high line of defence.

The more We chase him, the more We give spotlight to Brendan Rodgers.

I cannot live with this. If 70m isn't enough, just sign another players. We have five CBs and Maguire isn't a huge improvement over them.

I think all players will split opinion, but think if solskjaer has identified him then its because he thinks he will improve us. I think there's still a huge lack of confidence in our cbs and if we go into this season with 5 guys who don't even know who's first choice and we're chopping and changing our partnerships we're in for disaster. Our CB should maguire plus whoever fits best beside him.

Maguire lindelof Smalling bailly tuanzebe

Look for jones and Rojo to leave. That should recoup some of the fee while tuanzebe is a free signing.

Jones just extend his contract not long ago, he was Fergie buy, and only 1 year older than Maguire, and has more England caps too, do you really think Ole would sell him?
Rojo though, can't think of any reason why Ole would want him to stay.

It’s been pointed out countless times during this saga - we honestly don’t need the money.

Then leicester's stance should be not for sale at any cost, or valuing him reasonably and not have an unrealistic valuation of a player who wants to play at a higher level and it might be the only chance to move in his career since they are already making around 50m profit from the current bid on the player.

This stance only states Leicester are greedy for as much money they can fleece.

Only an idiot would say “not available at any cost” because every single player has their price including all of yours.

“Valuing him reasonably”... you paid £50m for someone with one good season under his belt. We can ask for whatever we want, we aren’t here to just bend over and let our players go for WHATEVER you want to pay.

Your club are paying DDG, Rashford and Sanchez £1m a week, so your club probably aren’t in a good position to bang on about value.

We’ve had two bids, neither of which exceeded £60m with add ons. The rest is perpetual shite from Sky news and the papers to get clicks. Take off the £17m paid, the 20% sell on clause, the “loyalty bonus” due on sale and suddenly it’s nothing remotely close to £50m profit.

Bid a guaranteed £75m and you stand a chance.

100% respect your opinion but I disagree with it. I think that Leicester purposely setting such a high valuation as they know only someone who is mad bid anywhere near it. I don't think they are being greedy. I think they genuinely do not want to sell Harry Maguire as they want to build on last season. If you are trying to progress, it makes no sense to sell yout best players mate.

75m seems a bit spendy, it's a gamble but what isn't?

If we're going to do this, it should be this week, if not we hopefully have a fall back option. .

I can't for a second see Everton or West Ham having even the slightest chance of getting near last season's top 6.
While you or Wolves will really have to have a great season, and rely on us or Arsenal, or maybe Chelsea, having a dreadful time of it.

I can't see the top 3 dropping out of the top 4, let alone top 6.

Leicester have a good batch of young talents, but if you lose Maguire, then I don't think bringing in Perez makes you stronger than last year, let alone making major strides. But we will see!!
Tielemans made all the difference in the world when he joined. Add that to the fact Rodgers is a clear improvement on Puel, Perez will add more goals... plus... all the young lads will be a year older and wiser, we had many players having their first full season at this level and often six starters under the age of 22.

But I’ll go back to Tielemans, I can’t believe we got him because he was that good and that much of a difference maker. One of those players that just elevated everyone around him to another level.

4th in the form guide for the last 4 games shows what was happening. It might be too early with so many youngsters, because outside of the 6 in he starting 11 we have a whole raft of other young players, with our entire bench likely to feature at least 4 or 5 u22 players.
