Maguire starting in Leicester friendly today

Agree with the getting on with life, this media inflated bs machine is getting tedious and in truth the now deafening silence says it all!

I'm loving the fact that there's potentially 10 teams vying for top 6 with no definitives bar your neighbours and the scousers which must sting. It makes the EPL less boring and predictable imo.

50 years man n boy I've followed us and 15/16 was the miracle I'd never thought I'd see, bar some fans who got carried away with all the stars aligning, most realise we are a club gradually improving with serious ambition to challenge the established order of things.

It's what makes it the beautiful game and a s**t show in equal measures.

You sound remarkably confident for this season. Any reason for that? You were 14 points off 6th last year, which featured a shocking united and a pretty poor in places arsenal.
Are you expecting a major improvement, while arsenal and united drop even further?

Trying to work out who else you think can break top 6. Obviously wolves, albeit their season of surprise may have worn off, coupled with the dreaded Europa, but are you counting Everton? Bournemouth?

I would not say remarkably confident more cautiously optimistic due to a full season ahead with Rodgers in charge, Tielemans here permanent and some additional quality in Perez and others potentially.

We dropped a hell of a lot of points during the Puel reign which I feel we will not under Rodgers, time will tell obviously.

I think it will be us, Wolves, Everton and West Ham alongside the established/ recognised top 6.

Last seasons final placings ,as you and any football fan knows, will not have any true bearing on the realistically 3rd to 10th spots which are by no means clear cut imo.

Well the inter game should take Skriniar off our list. Real POS, embarrassing to see a player react like that. Don’t want him anywhere near us

I can't for a second see Everton or West Ham having even the slightest chance of getting near last season's top 6.
While you or Wolves will really have to have a great season, and rely on us or Arsenal, or maybe Chelsea, having a dreadful time of it.

I can't see the top 3 dropping out of the top 4, let alone top 6.

Leicester have a good batch of young talents, but if you lose Maguire, then I don't think bringing in Perez makes you stronger than last year, let alone making major strides. But we will see!!

He smacks of one of these "Buzz" name centre backs that half the people championing haven't really seen play.

Maguire is the best option we have. Get him and be done with it.

The Wall...Iceman...Slabhead...Fatty

That’s a real ‘solid’ back 4.

We played a very high line today. Isnt anyone worried how maguire might be a liability on the counter? He is very slow and a midfield of matic pogba and fred offer little to know protection. Herrera is gone and we haven't added any quality defensive midfielder. Leicester are a counter attacking team so how sure are we maguire makes the cut for how we want to play?

It's page 181 mate. There's been at least 173 separate posts about his pace on the thread.

We haven't really been a counter attacking team for a couple of years, we have been much more possession based side for 2 seasons now

Get Alderweireld at 25M plus Lindelof and Tuanzebe and forget Maguire.

Slept through the game after a night shift, what happened?

Got shredded by all our attackers, resorted to trying to injure the young lads as they wiped the floor with him. Seems to be good at scowling, moaning and kicking lumps out of young lads in a friendly game.

Leicester have moved away from being just a counter attacking team and are playing more possession under Brendan Rodgers. Maguire isn't the fastest but certainly isn't
Very Slow. I hope Leicester keep him but if you sign him I'm sure he will quickly become a fan favourite.

Well all except for Lingard and James who he marshalled well and at times left lying on the floor by just good defending.

Oh that type, reminds me of Demichelis in the testimonial trying to kick lumps out of old men. Don't much like those sorts.

If anything, seeing what one of the Cafe’s so called top tier centrebacks was like today is proof that we need Maguire. Skriniar would get absolutely skinned in the Premier League

They of course have the right to value him at whatever they want, but it’d put players who want to use them as a stepping stone off if it’s ridiculous valuations.

This is what I was thinking too. They may also be risking having unhappy players at the club if they do this for all transfers.

Move on. Rodgers has said enough. Poor lad but oh well. Ferro from Benfica don't know why he's been overlooked.

Im not sure what's going on but this is a second summer in a row we are heavily linked and he seemingly isn't doing much to get a move which is providing the selling club strength in negotiation. This situation is desperate on our behalfs because Maguire is not a world class defender, he's not a VVD at Southampton, he's put in a few decent shifts in the league.

I think it’s obvious we’ve been priced out of a deal. Doesn’t sound like Leicester are budging on their ridiculous valuation either.

I won’t be surprised if this deal is dead in the water now.

Shame.

Him signing that 5 year deal after not getting his move was the silliest thing.

But I suppose very few footballers think things through, and can't see past the instant wage increase for what looks like them being "Loyal", and basically getting loads more money for the same job.

But in future, and more and more clubs asking sillier money, players will have to think carefully about it.

They’ll probably be a final meeting between both parties on this. But unless the player assists...this might be dead and over with.

I hope it’s made clear to the lad it’s unlikely we’ll comeback in for him again unless he suddenly becomes the best CB in the world whilst playing for Leicester next season. Which is also unlikely.

Doesn't look like he is coming now which is what I thought and previously stated that Leicester don't want to sell as they want to build on a relatively successful season from last year. I would go for Diop now. Any opinions on who we should go for please?:)

Don’t see us spending 65-70 on diop when we won’t pay 80 for maguire. My guess is we get nobody or we take another gamble for about the 4th year running. If I was guessing we will go Ake as we can probably get him at 40m

Haven't seen much of Nathan Ake, although I've heard he is very good and if not for VVD and De Ligt he would be starting for Holland. Really hope we get someone else in mate.

Next summer we are looking for center back again when all of them will be north of 90M. It’s better to fix it once and for all Now.
That will only happen if we go around breaking records for fun. If Maguire doesnt turn out to be the next Vidic or VVD, next summer we'll be shipping out a few CBs and look for another one, and if theres a WC one available then he will surely be 100m+

If the small clubs just lie on their backs and say go on tickle my belly how the hell are they to look to progress themselves?
I find this stepping stone mentality completely arrogant.

We are nowhere near the size of your club, granted, but the entitled we snap our fingers and the player comes days are no longer guaranteed, it's better for the game.

The league attracts oligarchs, it only takes one or 2 more clubs with ridiculous spending power like Man City n Chelsea (FFP ban aside) and middling clubs getting stable and richer and this will make it a stronger more competitive league surely?

Let's face it , it's not that many years ago that Man City and Chelsea were yo yo clubs and certainly not top 6 clubs and Champions like their recent history shows.

I'm not alluding to the fact we're a big club I'm saying the landscape is changing and thankfully it's not just a handful of clubs supremely dominant, as they once were,in spending power and potential.

There will always be the top dogs that have a higher draw, currently Man City & Liverpool but it's the way of the world and things can and do change, upsets have happened.

The way some people talk about this dude one would think we'd be missing on Maldini if we don't buy him

I personally don't see anything special with him and don't understand the fuss from some posters.
