Except that's not what he said. He said offers were made, we can't control other teams putting in offers we don't deem acceptable.

I think some of you lot can't get your head around the fact you can no longer bully teams like you once did. The message from Rodgers was clear, you do not meet our valuation so Maguire stays a Leicester players. It's as simple as that.

When did this happen?

United have been paying record fees for players for over 40-50 years. This potential transfer is following a similar trajectory to many others over the years when United come calling to buy a player from a smaller club.

To be fair in the 90s, and into the early 00s we basically had our pick of any PL player we wanted as long as they weren’t from a few obvious exceptions.

We still had to pay big often though.

Michu scored 18 goals in epl one time. better than Lukaku last season? What's the point ?
Jeez - the arrogance here.

Lukaku is a brilliant striker and was completely out of form due to us being shit. Nothing to do with his ability. He is being moved on because he doesn't fit Ole style. Play to his strength and he will score enough

He was completely out of form because he was completely out of form coming back from the WC. I would also not say that he is a brilliant striker, he has his strengths but his weaknesses are also rather obvious.

Conveniently forgetting Mou had already bought 2 x CBs. his transfer record was abysmal, genuinely woeful, when he was here so I don't have any issues with the club not sanctioning another CB at that time.

Now we've sorted Rb and have some form of an RW in James, I think most important for our defensive stability is a WC DM, not CB. Can you imagine how easy we'll be to play through with Maguire/Lindelof/Matic as our defensive core, one through ball and a striker with pace is into acres of space and immediately 1vs1 with DDG.
He's also conveniently forgetting that Mou threw the toys out of the pram and played Herrera and McTominay in defense ahead of his own signing Bailly.

Agreed. Bailly's one on on defending is top notch. He just struggles with concentration and Positioning at times, which in my opinion can be improved with training, communication and analysis.

He also struggles with the fact he can’t head a ball properly, is incredibly rash in the tackle and injury prone.

Right, this market value shit is pissing me off so here's my analogy:

3yrs ago I bought a dog for £180 and now have the most awesome, loyal, loving, 5yr old Border Collie. The dog's market value is round about the £200 mark but I wouldn't consider selling him so if anyone asks, and some have, my stock answer is £1m.

It is completely my right to do this and is therefore up to the buyer to reach an acceptable compromise.

Finally a bit of sanity.

If footballers were homogeneous then it would be easy to put an exact price on them - but they are not. People are obsessing over what they perceive as the “market value” of a player - when in fact it’s the value they as an individual are putting on a player, not the market at all.

Lukaku is a brilliant striker and was completely out of form due to us being shit. Nothing to do with his ability. He is being moved on because he doesn't fit Ole style. Play to his strength and he will score enough

Lukuku is not and has never been a brilliant striker. He has a good goalscoring record, which is not so impressive when you realise he is mearly a flat track bully and can’t score against a decent team.

I would also suggest his form has far more to do with his pathetic fitness and conditioning, than OGS. He was useless under Jose as well.

He’s a good mid table striker who should still be at Everton.

Who would you recommend as this world class CDM we should sign please? I would have liked to enable us to play Pogba and Fernandes (should he come) together. I think McTominay will be ok for now as he follows Ole's instructions to a tee and is improving all the time mate :)

Why did he sign a contract renewal last year if he's so eager to leave now?

Lukaku got outscored by a 32 year old Vardy playing in one of the most defensive boring teams I've had the misfortune to watch (thanks Puel). So perhaps you overpaid for him and you're still overvaluing him.

Lukaku's value isn't based solely on 1 poorish season where Vardy outscored him, its based on his excellent scoring record throughout his career at various clubs in multiple leagues and on the international stage.

He will score goals wherever he goes, he just doesn't fit Ole's and United's style.

You do sound quite gutted he's worth more than Vardy though.

Will always worry about Lukaku after he had his 2 and a half month barren spell last season mate :)

Shit like this is actually pissing me off. What if your dog doesn’t like you and runs away?

What’s your dog worth then?

Why won’t somebody think of the dog?

So are you saying Pogba and Lindelof should be benched? I think them two along with DDG and Rashford are the only guaranteed starters. Jose realised Bailly was a bad signing hence he wanted a CB who was established.

I remember everyone raving about Matic, he is the key to winning the league as well?

Ole is going to give McCtominay a chance as the CDM role. So i guess our poor defensive form last season in terms of goals conceded from set pieces is due to lack of DM.

In the context of this season, the ambition of Leicester City, the current situation at Old Trafford and the untested waters of having Ole as full time manager, I think it’s quite fair to say we’re in direct competition with one another for the European places this season. For that reason alone we shouldn’t be selling Maguire to you.

Really need to get Maguire over the line, would be an amazing signing for us, he will completely change our defence for the better.

In my opinion Martic legs have gone and we can't rely on him to be a regular starter and would have preferred to sign Fabinho that summer. I think he should be kept just for the big games where I think he could be extremely useful mate and I think we should be looking for a replacement for next summer.

Hence it's an analogy that doesn't cover every base. At the moment Maguire hasn't made any official comment that he wants to leave. Until he puts on an official request he is still seen as a loyal member of the team.

I imagine if he were to put a request in the outlook would change pretty quickly.

Why would Pep be interested in him? Considering he pin pointed MaGuire as a weakness City should exploit in that Netflix documentary they did.

Has everyone missed that tweet was posted 4 days ago?

Valid point on Maguire. Think if we get the players in Ole wants and they gel I think we will comfortably finish higher that you but if it doesn't turn out like I said I think you could be talking a lot of sense mate:nervous:

Well that was my point mate any club can sign virtually any player if they pay enough and we did, quite often more than most other clubs would have had to pay.

But I don't know where this bullying thing comes from. We didn't force teams to sell their players. The Maguire saga is really no different to when we tried to sign Keane, Cole, Yorke, Ferdinand, Carrick or Berbatov.

United want x player, player wants to join, current club don't really want to sell but will for a record fee. There's no bullying going on now or then.

Thank God, we have a new bie system in place.

Why is everyone quoting a tweet from 4 days ago by a troll?

There wasn't this much response to the Sky tweet saying he wants to join

Because most footballers just do what their agent tells them to and don't do much thinking of their own. Having said that even without the contract extension he still would have had 3 years left on his deal. And i suspect Leicester would still want the fee they do currently.

Who the feck is Sean from Enderby and why are we believing what he says?
an attention seeking troll that got himself banned from Radio Leicester for spouting too much crap so now does it on Twitter
