Why would he be "demoted" has it been officially confirmed Maguire isn't joining? No? Didn't think so.

The lack of patience, especially when its a deal like this which clearly has the feeling of "just a matter of time" is truly staggering.
I thought Simon said Maguire was having a medical today? If not, my bad.

I'd imagine if it wasn't happening - or we weren't even having productive conversations, Maguire and/or Leicester would put rumours to bed via the media.

There has been enough traffic to suggest that there is some desire for the move to happen, and he is now exclusively linked to us only.

If he had no interest, it would be pretty easy to put the rumours to bed so he can concentrate on being prepared for next season.

So I do find it bizarre that people are so quick to dismiss it - whilst nothing is agreed and Sir Stone has yet to confirm an agreement, he will only put a tweet out there when his contact at United tells him to do so.

I can imagine by the end of the week there'll be a deal on the table for £70m+10m add-ons.

Anything remotely close to concrete in any of this? So many conflicting stories being thrown around the media. Much as I'd like Maguire 80m is way too high if it prevents us getting another CM. Still think not getting Alderweireld is madness, both would be great. Ship out some of the wasters giving Axel, Lindelof some time to learn the role.

he said deal was done. it is far from done
it's not different from James and AWB. He said those deals were done too at a time when Stone and the other journalists said it wasn't done yet. In the end the guy was right.

so I guess it depends on what you generally think of the guy. Personally I'm still skeptical until Stone confirms it, but we'll see. I certainly hope he's right again.

NOt saying hes wrong, if the deal goes through on deadline day, technically he would still be right, but he'd lose some credibility in my eyes, because i think most united fans are expecting it to happen, just a matter of when, and how much. What i find interesting is that the leicester camp as well as their ITKs are also insisting no deal has been struck yet, and that they are holding firm for 85m

Didn't Liverpool take a punt on Robertson from Hull, worked out alright. Maybe its something we need to do more often rather than all these ready made world beaters who have done sod all since arriving on crazy wages.

Yes, and we have taken punts in the past that have turned out to be shrewd pieces of business too. However, my point is that we shouldn't keep saying we should have bought player x when he was 12 years old playing for his Sunday league team. It's pointless and irrelevant.

What we have right now is a gaping hole in our defence that needs fixing. Maguire is the most qualified of our targets to fix it.

If £80 million is the difference between us finishing in or out of the top 4, then I'd pay that in a heartbeat.

This transfer is moving at Maguire's pace :joking:

yeah I agree. I don't take that guy's word for gospel, but Maguire is the 3rd player he's called a "done deal". We signed the other two, so if he makes it 3 for 3 he'll gain some credibility in my eyes. But even then he could just be a keyboard warrior who makes relatively safe bets and gets lucky.

We really need to stop living in the past.
We should have signed him when at Hull and what not.

Some players need time to develop before making the step up, look at how Jones and Smalling have turned out. Some players take longer to develop and reach potential.

I'm betting on this.
There is no such thing as a free meal. Or something like that.

Help me understand the logic here. This guy is just saying the deals will happen at some time. The deals were not done when the journalists were saying it wasn't done, how were they wrong?

You and me both mate, to be honest whether the players costs us 80M from Leicester or 15M for Swansea or 150M from Barca, irrelevant as long as they are the right player for the club and the fit for the position in need, could not give a monkeys where we buy them from or how much they cost.

was just about to post that, but it just confirms the situation we have been in for weeks, City or United need to match the fee we want
Surely, SURELY, £80m is the fee you want? I mean I’m going to cry if we end up paying more than that. Absolute mugs.

the journalists? I don't think they were wrong at all. Like I said, I'm skeptical of that xsimon guy, although we did sign the two players he called a "done deal".

I think that clubs like United want as little smoke as possible until it is all signed and dusted, so I'd expect them to use reliable journalists like Stone to pump the brakes. Even when, behind closed doors, the club is already certain that the deal is going through.

I imagine it is £80m straight cash wanted, rather than the rumoured £60m + £20m add ons

10 years ago, 80m got you Cristiano Ronaldo. Now, it gets you Harry Maguire.

This is key right here. Why is that so hard to understand? Obviously the official journos are going to pump the brakes, but that doesn't mean its not looking likely to be done or close to be done. Its the silly season version of "nothing's agreed till everything's agreed".

PS: Also points out how even reliable ITK's can be wrong. Because say the club's fairly confident that the deal will be done, some ITK gets too excited and goes online with it, but then it falls apart at the last minute; the ITK is left with egg on their face and people taking that as a hit to his credibility.

But in reality ITK's shouldn't be looked at in that way anyways. They're there to give us slight hints of what might be happening behind closed doors. So now if we don't end up signing Maguire I'll take it that something went really wrong with the deal last minute as opposed to the "official" version that would be something like "the club thought they were asking too much/no value in market".

I wish I could be as unperturbed about this... But... I've been sucked in. Cannot breathe. I'm shitting in tiers now.

Haha breath mate, that much bullshit on social media now use to enjoy it far more when it was up on teletext and you knew it was legit, now it is just people begging for likes who post anything, bores the shit out of me.

Seems to be very close though. We still had CP sources saying that AWB would not be allowed to move for less than 55m up front 24 hours before the deal went through. I think 80m is the valuation and the sticking point right now is how much is paid up front. Leicester well within their rights to want it all but not going to blame our side for trying to pay some in instalments or add-ons.

It just feels inevitable in that we have been locked in for months now and it would be an epic fail if we ended up not getting him whilst for Leicester they probably realize that they have options in their squad already and can easily get a solid replacement for half the fee and then use the balance to add another quality player. We want it settled but neither club is under any pressure to do the deal today and will haggle for what they can get.

Percy’s tweets pretty much confirms it is done and dusted. The 90mil narrative has changed to 80, which will be the price. Leicester being the good guys by letting him go and they will get paid.

Welcome to Manchster United Harry Magueirooo!
