Its just bizarre. Why is a 3rd party taking someone to a police station to be arrested?
I have been in that position with British Police and won a case against them. They manufactured statements and I defeated them in a British Court.Do not always assume that Police are always right. Unless you have been there you wouldn't know. Any serious lawyer would dismantle that evidence by Greek Police. Its a joke. America and Britain erupted after George Floyd death. Do not trust everything the police say. They are dodgy as hell. Ask yourself this question, do you think that evidence would have convicted Maguire in Britain? Absolutely no chance. Who prosecutes and convicts anyone in less than 6 days? Why hurry the case? Why? Justice must be done here am not having these version of events by Greek Police.

Supposedly they entered their previously hired van to get out of there, ordered the chauffeur to take them to the clinic, under cover cops had told the driver to go to the precinct instead wich he supposedly did, according to court details Harry and his pals thought they were being followed and got agitated, and the police breached their van and dragged them out, claiming some altercation. short summary From what was gathered some posts or pages back regarding the van.

A bit, but if the cops intervened and the driver was local the passengers wouldn't have any idea what was happening and would have thought he was taking them where they asked, which seems to align with everyone's version of events.

Most drugs can be found in hairs up to 90 days after consumption/injection. Rohyphenol (and benzos) can now be detected in urine up to 5 days after it was taken/administered. If she really was drugged, they'll be able to prove it.
Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity. I don't buy the conspiracy theories about Maguire being set up for whatever reason.
You do understand how the juridical systems work, the difference between civil and criminal courts? Because all those examples relate to the civil courts and that Maguire was tried in a criminal court?
I can relate to corruption in the civil courts, sneaky back handers to get that license or deed for example. Can’t recall ever hearing such stories about their criminal courts. Quick fire prosecutions could lead to shabby prosecutions & verdicts, but’s that’s what you get when a significant minority of tourists act like yobbish dickheads.

Absolutely, when you start taking decisions based on verdicts from the Greek judicial system then there is absolutely no hope left.
Let's hope they can start proving that part first then.
Any decent lawyers would ask for the tests ASAP before the evidence is lost. It's not as if Maguire didn't have the means to fly his sister back to england asap to send her to the hospital/lab. If we don't hear anything about that in the next couple of days, it'll mean if was bullshit.

I really don't know the guy but my perception of him makes this totally out of character so I am going to give him the benefit of doubt until the appeal has gone through. I really find the cops statement of him saying "don't you know who I am, I am the captain of Manchester United" to be suspect. As well as the bribe part since he didn't feel like he had done anything wrong.
Also, so many assume he was drunk, has anyone seen proof of that? Regardless, if my sister was injected and ANYONE was trying to prevent me from getting her help, verbal and physical abuse will follow.

In Greece it might be complicated, but I hope they can fly her back ASAP indeed. Let's see when the appeal is, and if that shows up in the appeal. But would he appeal if he did not have serious evidence?
Anybody who has been on holiday in the Med as a young British male knows not to mess with foreign cops. They don’t care who started it they will always take the locals side and give you a good kicking for good measure.
Problem being that it sounds like they were plain clothed officers and didn't identify themselves as police before trying to grab them. Allegedly.

Yes because they are completely independent of each other. Plenty of examples of corruption in the EU incl the UK (read the Private Eye) in the civil courts & civil service. Corruption in the criminal juridical system would imply that the criminal courts do not act independently and that would be in direct violation of EU constitution. Human rights and all that. In other words, you’re making some very serious accusations about Greece. Anyway, let’s debate the behavior of Brits abroad instead..
People often appeal for stupid reasons, i can't count how often a client asked me to do it (I'm a lawyer in France) even if I knews the outcome wouldn't be good. It could be because he hopes he'll do better with different lawyers, as a temporary PR stunt, because he's stubborn... or because he didn't do anything wrong.
I've seen at least as many people automatically dismissing the court's decision because "meh, it's greece, it's probably corrupt" without explaining where the corruption would be in this specific scenario.
Again, the LAST thing you want if you're corrupt is a prosecution against a high profile football player that can afford any top legal team with the support of most of england's newspaper to expose any wrongdoing. It barely makes sense.
I am guessing there will be a "Greece fighting" song in the works to the tune of "Greased Lightnin..."
Dodgy as hell. Surely even in serious cases - if there's suspicion of health issues, first the Police let the suspects go to a hospital, follow them here to check it and only then take them to the station?
Literally coming up with every conspiracy in the world its embarrassing. Maguire shouldn't even be allowing himself to be put in this situation.

Apart from in this case everyone who knows him saying he's a straight up guy for whom it would be out of character, and he firmly denies it and the story presented in the press indicating that its not straight forward.
While Suarez is a known cheat who bites people, pulls their hair and insults them to try to win and admitted to saying because you are black for the reason why he kicked Evra but tried to say he was being friendly while also being filmed pinching him a few moments after.

As for Brits abroad, I don't get around too much but will say I only ever seem to run into City fans in Canada. They always look like Nosferatu, are ridiculously drunk and tell me how much United suck. Lock them all up, I say!
I could imagine macho Greek police trying to assert their control over a group of drunken & in their eyes unruly Brits, and a quick conviction in order to send them home ASAP. Type of thing happens in Amsterdam as well. And in most cases the accused will just accept a suspended sentence and fine to be rid of.
Based on what I’ve read I sense it’s a case of difference versions of events and it’s completely normal for people to have different realities of events. But it’s all speculation, I know ape shit and not going to judge a Maguire until I know more facts.
What pisses me off is that people on here assume that Greece is some kind of narco state where the mob and police go hand in hand, whilst completely ignoring the fact that it’s hoards of trouble makers from the UK forcing local authorities to take drastic measures.
Just because something is out of character doesn't mean he didn't do it. Secondly he shouldn't even be putting himself in a situation like that at all.
