Harry Maguire involved in incident with police in Greece - conviction nullified by appeal, full retrial pending

Maguire literally states in the interview that he doesn't want to be a footballer that's forced to go into a private holiday destination and he wants to go on a 'normal' holiday. Yeah, he will be able to spend a bit more than other people while on that holiday but if he's being harassed or abused while on that holiday it isn't Maguire who is in the wrong or should be forced to make a change. It should be the people abusing him that you need to look at ffs.
Correct. I don't know why people can't see this. It's all the footballers fault, excusing the yob behaviour.

If they go on a normal holiday they’re abused for being silly enough to not go to a private island. If they go to a private island or use a private jet they’re abused for putting in a couple of 6/10 performances.

Also if they go on a private holiday they are remote and detached from the ordinary fan. Harry said he loves talking to fans and having a picture with them. Most will be fine, but the ones who aren't are winning and will turn their sights onto some other poor beggar to ruin their holidays.

He just got found guilty, was given a suspended sentence, and didn't receive a fine.

I don't know why you're being all 'I'm gonna come back and tell I told you so' about it.

You've yet to give me any reason to believe your prediction beyond conjecture. But yeah bookmark the bejaysus out of this, if you makes you feel better. You might win some internet points, good lad

Internet points? i'm giving my opinion, on an opinion-based internet forum. Literally the whole point of its existence. Is it OK with you, if somebody has a different opinion and prediction than you have?

Cheer up mate. There's more to life than getting angry at a screen.

Harry Maguire had the lead story on bbc news to help influence his case, Wayne Rooney requested to go on the Breakfast show this morning to defend him.
Media in overdrive on this
I feel like we should have gone the other way and tried to move past it upon awaiting the appeal

I think he had a right to speak out. That hopefully will be it now from him until the re-trial.

Not saying he didn't.
Headline story on BBC news?
Anyway just goes to show fame and money is very important when it comes to legal matters

that is the point, he is not "other players". He is "Manchester united captain". That thing happens to Sergio Romero and with all due respect to him, BBC News and all of them would not look to have him in the "studios"..(Back pages story)

True, but the Argentinian TV probably would be as all over it just as our BBC have.

Maguire said he was whatsapping his agent/friends/family or whatever for help when running away from the rozzers.

Why don’t they cross reference this and have Maguire or the people he messaged show their phones to prove he was in distress? It would give more credibility to his statement?

I'd imagine if he's stated this on the BBC, it will be provided as evidence at his re-trial

But it is a headline though? It is big news. Why are fans crying victim to news?

No one is crying. Simply pointing out that a normal everyday person wouldn't have access to such a platform.
Fame and money are very important when it comes to legal matters, even then if this was Sterling would the media be backing him like this?
Also I don't think the club really needs the extra distraction. The interviews gave me R Kelly / Prince Andrew vibes. If you're innocent keep your head down and let your lawyers work on your appeal.

That's just my opinion though, everyone has a right to their own opinion.

I just don't like the narrative around this story now, trail by media when there is a legal appeal happening at the moment

You’re right, he’s not “other players.” Players such as Marcus Rashford, who has more United appearances, more England caps, and is a far bigger name in the media. BBC News would love to have Rashford in the studios.

Or it’s only the United captain who can’t go to public places, all the other players can?

Like someone mentioned above, he needs counselling. He could barely keep it together with the traumatic experience that he’d just been through.

Ffs he’s about to burst into tears. Unless he’s a pathological liar then I don’t see how you fake that. Anyway, I was always behind him.
Is that hard? I have done this a couple of times in my lifetime. When big things are on the line you can get a little emotional while lying.

Not gonna lie.

Well I’m not sure. I’m a terrible liar. I’d assume it’s hard to get emotional like that when lying unless you’re very good at it. It might come to some naturally I guess.

Either way, he looked genuine to me, if were judging by recent interviews we’ve seen If you get whom I’m talking about.

A normal everyday person wouldn’t have had the story printed in the newspaper and all over TV in the first place.

You can’t have it both ways?

Have not asked for it to be had both ways.
Also, normal everyday people do have their legal issues spread all over newspapers and TV news, they don't get a chance to influence that.

But a normal everyday person wouldn't have been crucified across multiple social media platforms, news outlets and by word of mouth. So he's only using the platform, because he's been crucified on the very same platform.

If this happened to me or you, we wouldn't have our reputation destroyed all over the internet, by sports journalists, news reporters, by twitter, forums etc, so we would have no need to speak out on BBC news.

Not for something as minor as this.

How many people do you think have been arrested in Greece this year, and not a single one of them makes the news except the one who is famous.

use another player than Rash.... Marcus is an activist that forced the government into a U-turn which automatically makes him "not just another player" .
With great power comes great responsibility: Being Manchester United Captain is not exactly like being Stoke City FC captain as you know.

What are you on about?

Exactly, Rashford isn’t just another player. Yet he was just in Mykonos with no incident. The complete opposite of your claim that famous players aren’t allowed to go to public places on holiday.

I'm not angry

You're the one threatening to come back to find me and tell me I told you so I decided to take the mick out of you.

You're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to question it. You're adamant this whole thing was cooked up to get Harry to pay a fine.

This is exactly how I see it to have played out.

They've seen a big financial target on his head and they've played a blinder. They do this kind of trick on british louds on a smaller scale all the time.

However, he was already sentenced, found guilty, and wasn't fined so your theory makes little logical sense.

If this was all to give him a fine, I would have expected him to be fined in the first case, unless their Machiavellian scheme factored in the appeal process.

So you're saying that they didn't fine him in the first place knowing that he would appeal and then a year down the road boom! They're quids in.

It all seems a bit too conspiracy-theory for me.

Except this happens everyday

You've rinsed the cnut!!!!!!!

@AC1689 will probably say Maguire did it to himself in a mirror to look more convincing anyway

Maguire looked like he'd taken a few whacks to his face in the interview to me but there again he is a centre back and most good ones get a broken nose at some point
Hahaha oh so now he was hit hard enough to be bruised? Yet you were all claiming either bruises clear up by now, or he wasn’t hit hard enough to bruise. And we see one bruise despite Maguire stating “obviously they kept hitting my legs”.

So they hit his legs just that once for the one bruise? Or the rest of the hits were just light slaps?

Where are the results from his sisters blood/hair test to prove she was indeed drugged and therefore are visible in her system? Hair samples show this for up to 50 days after ingestion. Evidence is easily found if it happened.

It’s laughable people actually hear this account and take it hook, like and sinker.

My sister was “attacked”/drugged and collapsed, but no drug test to prove it, we didn’t try ringing for an ambulance seeing her unconscious? Well no we decided to take her ourselves. But then actually we somehow ended up outside a police station. But we were somehow actually kidnapped.

He fails to explain where and how they were bundled into a van, if that’s what happened, then claims they “just started hitting us”, so where’s the photographic evidence of the injuries either by Maguire himself or his lawyers? Very bizarre. They didn’t think to gather evidence of physical injuries?Oh please.

Claims he was attacked outside the police station by plain clothed officers. Well at that point it’s obvious they’re police. Or do kidnappers now take their victims to police stations and do their worst in front of the police? So why is he now fearful for his life as he claims?

He then says whilst outside the police station being “attacked” that “at this point there’s no way these are police” despite being outside the actual police station, “so I tried to run away”. So he genuinely believed he’d been kidnapped and thrown in front of a police station to be physically assaulted by his kidnappers at the police station. Oh yes this makes so much sense.

Is his sister ok? What actually happened to her? Rohypnol? GHB? Or was she in and out of consciousness because they’d thumped her in the face? Where’s the evidence of either?

At what point were they “kidnapped”? If it’s whilst he was trying to take his sister to the hospital as he claims, she’d have been with him so what’s then happened to her?

Its not rocket science that if for some reason you are bundled into a van by plain clothed men, that after worrying you were being kidnapped, you’d soon realise you’d been arrested when you arrive at a frigging police station.

It’s laughable that he’s concocted this story and thinks it’s credible. But even more so that people are totally convinced by it. I wonder if it’s a coincidence that nearly every person who does believe this waffle, is a United fan. Try to see past the BS.

This is literally as preposterous as Prince Andrew claiming he doesn’t have the ability to sweat. He also tried the whole let’s do an interview on BBC to prove we are “innocent”. Think R Kelly did something similar. Why is it always the guilty ones who do that? Can’t recall an innocent person who’s done a media interview to prove their innocence. Usually court does this for them. Oh wait...

It's okay to just admit you don't like Maguire and wish jail time upon him, much easier than these ramblings.

What is so difficult to understand what "risk" means..We get on cars everyday, it doesn't mean we are going to have an accident (A star player going to Mykonos doesnt necessarily mean there will be an incident involving that player)
What is so difficult to understand "With great power comes great responsibility" ...everything the Manchester United Captain does will always be magnified, more so than ever (much more exposure, people looking to get him; hence going back to my original premise about private islands to avoid that "risk") "Great Power" = Manchester United captain. Deal with it.

It's okay to just admit you don't like Maguire and wish jail time upon him, much easier than these ramblings.
Or why don’t you just admit you love Maguire that much that you simply can’t believe he might be guilty. Works both ways.

Why don’t you also try explaining all the ridiculous holes in his story instead of coming back with a cheap shot trying to claim I must be some sort of Maguire hater. Why the hell would I dislike the guy when he’s captain for my club? And has never done anything wrong or against this club before now. Give your head a wobble.

The difference here is I’m being level headed about this and not blinded by my support for the club he plays for. I would be saying the exact same thing no matter which player he was, whether for us or another team. Whereas you can bet your bottom dollar, you’d be singing from a different hymn sheet if the player in question was a Liverpool player.

Well, I suppose that's the point of a proper trial where evidence can be scrutinised properly. It never sounded right that it was all done in a couple of days. Let's leave the law to examine what's credible and what's not. Harry can get back to football for now...

Well some empathy can go a long way, my friend. I'm no solicitor but I do have a younger sister and you can clearly see Maguire is upset by what has happened. He appears very confident, as do the club, that the truth will be revealed. Having seen the interview I am fully behind Maguire and am glad the club are too.

One last thing to ponder. He claims whilst being attacked outside a police station (I can’t keep a straight face anymore) that “there’s no way these are police” and so ran away.

So you’re outside a police station being attacked by people who aren’t the police (hilarious), where do you think to run? I’d run into the fecking police station saying “help me I’m being attacked”. But no, he chose to run away from both. You couldn’t make it up... well, it seems you could actually.

Worst kidnapper of the year award goes to the kidnappers attacking their victim outside a police station after they took the victim to the police station themselves. It’s such a poorly fabricated story it is beyond embarrassing.

You might learn something if you read it. That your beloved Harry is talking out of his rear orifice.

It’s amusing that because you play for Manchester United you can’t possibly ever commit a crime. It’s not in the United DNA or some other rubbish like that I imagine

How?! Are you clinically insane? Maguire said those exact things. You’re gullibility is quite astounding.
I wish Woodward had as much dedication to improving the squad as you did to whatever the hell it is you're doing here. Good luck and god bless, I love you.

It’s shocking how much hate this guy gets. Football fandom is so different to when I was growing up, I’m so disillusioned by so many supposed Man Utd fans these days.
