Tuchel is much happier playing defensively than Ten Hag. In a back three, in a compact team, Maguire is at his best. This is the right move for him if it can happen.

Imo, the pair of Maguire and Martinez is like asking for conceding goals on counter. Last season we conceded 3 goals in total on counters which is not too bad.
Maybe because we barely strung couple of passes together to even give opponent chance to counter.

Yeah, I'm also not sure if that tidbit can produce a direct deduction of our defensive prowess. I mean we all saw how easy teams strolled down our middle. I'm aware of visual bias but there's no way that McFred midfield was part of a reliable counter defending machine, likely other factors at play. If we didn't concede much then we probably weren't on the receiving end of that many total or some other tactical reason or just plain anomalous luck or something peculiar about what that stat considers "counters".
