He has morphed into the second coming of Beckenbauer over the last few weeks. More so when not playing. Even Klinsmann compared him to Lucio. who was a monster defender (on PES).
The fact that he offers calmness and composure
The fact that he's our best CB on the ball and would have been of huge use in the final when the Chuckle Brothers 2.0 looked like Bambi on ice on the ball
The fact that he has a commanding presence that could probably have prevented the goal
If after 2 years you can't see how important Maguire is to our defence then this sport isn't for you
I'm genuinely even seeing rival fans appreciating Maguire's importance for both Utd and England
Trying to do it on his own because his partner and 2 fullbacks can’t headQuestioning my knowledge of the game simply because I don't share your opinion doesn't make you appear more knowledgeable. Get off that high horse, sir. Maguire is a descent centerback but let's not pretend he's a game changer
Do you honestly think Maguire would've prevented Lindelof from playing a part in Villarreal's only goal through his poor defending? Again, we did face 7 corners from Villareal and they hardly posed a threat.
How many goals from set pieces did we concede all season prior to that game? The answer is 11! 7 from corners and 4 from free kicks, more than any other top 4 side, and the commanding Maguire was there for all of those games.
Considering that a football match is a chaos equation, it's highly unlikely the exact same situation would have occurred if Maguire was on the pitch. Hence, your argument is meaningless.Based on what? Our shortcomings in the final itself were not exclusively defensive. Lindelof was at fault for their goal through weak defending but there's nothing Maguire could've done about that had he been on the pitch. We faced 7 corners from them and non of them came to anything despite being poor at set pieces throughout the season with Maguire being the mainstay at the back. Overrated

I think Shaw is very good in the air myself. Lindelof, AWB and de Gea are a problem together, though. Especially with Lindelof and AWB both being on the same side.Trying to do it on his own because his partner and 2 fullbacks can’t head
I believe he’ll cost Sweden the game tonight. Prediction
He’s better than the others that’s for sure. But I’m probably better than those 2 in the air!I think Shaw is very good in the air myself. Lindelof, AWB and de Gea are a problem together, though. Especially with Lindelof and AWB both being on the same side.
@Vidyoyo as I said, Victor would feck it up.
It was a great cross.I thought it was a great cross but I'll let you have this one
I always wanted Luke from Southampton because I thought he looked incredible defensively and classy in possession, but the biggest surprise for me since coming here is his aerial ability. 9/10 he wins his duel, and the amount of clearances I've seen him make at the back post from a cross coming in from the right is remarkable. He’s better than the others that’s for sure. But I’m probably better than those 2 in the air!

He was bossing it tonight which is kinda weird as I often find him the one being led by Lindelof. It was good to see. Long may it continue. Thought he played really well. Did he even get back at a player in Muller

What the feck? Maguire is clearly the more vocal and proactive on the pitch. If by lead you mean points fingers and tells others to cover his area then yes Lindelof is world class in this regard.
@UNITED ACADEMY
Remember when someone tried to argued Lindelof is as good on the ball as Maguire
Lindelof is weak in the air. It’s no surprise opposition strikers target him as he ain’t going to compete with them physically in the air. Maguire doesn’t lose many aerial battles in comparison to Lindelof who doesn’t look anywhere near comfortable when the opponent is firing crosses into our area.
When Maguire got injured, we lacked leadership, calmness and composure at the back. We conceded 10 goals in 5 matches when he got injured! (majority of in fact nearly all of them were crosses into the box from both set-pieces and general open-play crosses from the wide areas). 10 goals in 5 games, shows how much of a missed presence at the back he was for us when he got injured
Maguire was a monster tonight - reminded me of a prime Gary Pallister. He wouldve headed a cannonball if they crossed one in! He was a rock with a head like a slab of rock.
He's been a great signing. Not only did we sign a top centre-back we signed a leader.
The last couple of years he has been very good.
Most fans dont take to him because he is english with a boring image..
Kids want the 'sauce', well edited video clips and all the bullshit it entails.
On the internet at least, it doesnt seem fashionable to rate Maguire.
I don’t think we will play many games with this defensive style of five at the back plus two defensive midfielders. It would be nice to see him at United with a CB partner who can hold his own, that's for sure. I'm critical of him, but the caveat is that he's barely able to focus on his own job at United, whereas for England, he is.
No, but having a stable base around you enables you to focus on your own game rather than always having half an eye on others, which is why we need a new CB and a top notch defensive screen in front of them to transform this part of the pitch.I don’t think we will play many games with this defensive style of five at the back plus two defensive midfielders.
The stable base you talk about is players always having half an eye on others. My point was that this doesn’t really translate to how we play, except maybe PSG away. No, but having a stable base around you enables you to focus on your own game rather than always having half an eye on others, which is why we need a new CB and a top notch defensive screen in front of them to transform this part of the pitch.
He was brilliant. I was worried that he would be sluggish, but he’s stepped right back it.Looked quality against Germany. Good to see the injury hasn’t affected his form.
