Harry Kane

Hmmm. Sun say contact made with Spurs over Kane. Will take a 'dizzying offer.' Maybe more to this than first thought. Spurs wouldn't sell us Kane and Lloris so, hypothetically, if you had to pick one who would you go for/which is the most important one to get?

Get Leno. Buy Kane off Spurs.

Just in your hypothetical situation where we have to pick one. Ideally, I'd not buy Kane this season at all. His price wont be much different next season, let's be sure of what we're getting.

Lloris every day of the week.

Kane has had one great season, but he's done nothing to prove he isn't just a flash in the pan. The last thing he (and we) needs is us spending over £40m on him and then everyone expecting him to consistently perform at the levels he was last season (or even improving on last season) when we have no clue of whether he is even capable of it. Best thing for everyone involved is for him stay at Spurs for at least another season.

Agree re waiting. Kane could still go either way.

Have we been linked with this fella again, or are people making calculations based on recent reports surrounding RvP?

RvP is reportedly leaving -> we must be buying a new striker -> rehash old articles about strikers -> get views.

I think the only logical reason for letting RVP leave is having a replacement lined up. Kane could be the player to eventually take Rooney's place and be our CF for the next 10 years. It is a risk but one the may end up being genius.

Back page of the Sun says we've now made official contact with Spurs and were told it would take a 'dizzying offer' to sign him. God knows what that means in real money

Last striker we was linked too was Muller wasn't it?

That's what the story is saying. Long term English successor to Rooney.

While many among us will have our doubts about whether last season was a fluke (and obviously Rooney is not a scout) but stuff about him raving to LVG about Kane was interesting.

Last point, of all strikers left on market he is one of few who could play in place of and alongside Rooney in a three up top.

For all that, I just can't see Spurs selling.

According to former France manager Raymond Domenech, who gave Lloris his international debut in 2008. the keeper should not join United as they are "not a big club".

"I have no decision to take for him, but in my opinion he has to play in Chelsea, Arsenal, or Manchester City, to play in the European Cup," Domenech said.

"Tottenham is a big club – it is not the biggest. Manchester United qualified for the Champions League, but I can't see really the difference with Tottenham."

What a JOKER!!! :lol::lol::lol:

Would make sense - we must be bringing in a striker - Falcao gone, probably RVP and /or Hernandez as well, and Van Gaal is not convinced about Rooney in that role

Such an annoying comment. How anyone has such a skewed view of football to associate us to Tottenham in terms of size is incredible, really. It's as if all those years dominating the Premier League didn't exist.

I think he is saying it in terms of where we are right now and how the club will perform over the next few years rather than actual size of clubs

Don't be annoyed, he is a moron.

If he repeats his scoring record for the next two seasons then we could start thinking about a bid. I doubt there's any real truth behind these rumours.

That makes his categorisation of Arsenal as big rather odd, then, because we're only a qualifying period away from having the exact same prospects as them, performance-wise.

He did it consistently for an average Spurs side for pretty much the entirety of the season, how people still don't rate him I have no idea.
He succeeded where many other strikers have failed...oh and he's young, and English!

The only way spurs would sell is if Kane throwed a strop, which looks unlikely.
  • Hes the one player who can carry them.
  • Last time they got big money, they blew it.
  • Who do they sign to better them.
Theyll keep him until/if he outgrows them.

I actually think there's substance to this, but Spurs will walk away the happier as usual. And then blow their money on wrong signings.
Levy will want something like £45M (only worth £30M at the moment in imho) and will also demand Hernandez as well. That's my reckoning.
And if Kane improves even more and becomes a goal machine, that'll be good business I guess.

As much as I rate the guy, signing him for mental money after one brilliant season would be insane.

Honestly its like people are completely oblivious to the fact that we are the richest club in the world.

I mean people complain about the fact that woodward has literally told the world that money is not an issue; yet people are worried about spending it.

Go for it. Its not like someone can score 30+ goals by chance? People compare him to Andy Carrol when in reality the move is more similar to Torres moving to Chelsea (if anything goes wrong).

The Torres transfer was very nearly as bad as the Andy Carroll one.

Torres had been crap for a good 12 months when he left Liverpool.

Yeah you're right. Talented strikers are really rare now, and the amount of money coming into United is just crazy. We could easily gamble £40M to £50M on Kane and it wouldn't dent the finances hardly at all.
Spurs don't need the money, which is why they'll probably turn down most offers to test just how badly we want him. They themselves want to challenge for the champions league. I think he's worth a gamble.

Why do we have to wait a season? That's what scouting is for.
If we had to wait 2/3 season and see if he can continue his goal scoring form then we are paying our scouting department waaaaaay too much.
Sounds like the easiest job in the world

Kane is coming from a direct rival to all our rivals and ambitions. Buying Kane is not just a benefit purely on the player alone but we arguably make our rivals significantly weaker.

I mean i was thinking about it yesterday; there is a shortness to the amount of available strikers anyway. Before someone mentions Lacazette and thr likes; its good to remember that they have only been good or great for one season too.

Not really sure how that relates to what I said but yea ok!

I don't think this is the correct way to think about it. This assumes that the Glazers are happy to spend all our profits on players year after year even if we waste 50m a few times. I don't see the evidence that this is the case. Glazers seems to be spending cash to get us back to the top alright, but that well will dry up one day I think, and we shouldn't blow all the money we get before it does on gambles

I rekon the glazers dont care one bit anymore; as we are spending the clubs money not theirs anymore. We are spending our profits. This goes all the way back to why SAF left the weakest squad possible for moyes because he hardly spent a dollar while trying to win every trophy possible with the likes of Cleverely & Welbeck. IMO; he would have retired earlier but for cutting Glazers debt filled Investment.

I wouldn't be suprised if we went in to every season with a 150+million.

This is all a conversation based on nothing because there is a shortness of top strikers anyway. I couldn't think of one apart from Benzema.

The season before last he got four goals in nineteen games. Before that? two in fifteen in the championship.

He had a great season and all but it would be a crazy risk. I wouldn't want us to have anything to do with it personally.
