Harry Kane MBE | Performances

The stupid thing is thinking we're better off without Kane in general. It's not true and is absurd.

There's an argument over whether we should have played him in the final due to him lacking in sharpness/not being fully fit, but that's all.
Uhm, you don't get to decide what the argument is, especially now that you have zero credibility. You wanted Kane to start and was insulting anybody who suggested otherwise. Well he started, and you got exactly what you deserved.

P.S I liked you better when you had a big mouth, you seem a bit subdued

 No I didn't what the feck are you talking about. I said I thought there was a debate over whether he should start pre-game and that I understood both arguments.

You can feel free to argue whether we're better off without our top scorer and the bloke who dragged us through the CL group stages, but I'm not interested. Knock yourself out though.

It's late ... sleepy.

Just hope he’s over all the injury niggles. Big fan of Kane.

I have a feeling his annual ankle injury will rule him out of Euro 2020

I'm semi-convinced he decided to go for it because he saw PIG out of position and can't be arsed to run any more in the humid weather.

Yeah, yeah he's ok. but I have my doubts over if he could it on a warm night in Seville.

If he get one like that against you lot, I won’t care if it’s a friendly or not.

Happy for him to score one like that in pre-season against us, at the end of the day, it’s a friendly. Do that in the PL or CL and it will be talked about for years - but not in these types of games. Still a great great strike.

Same, great all round striker, lethal finishing, good hold up play, has the lot. whats he at now? A 5 season wonder?

I always hoped Lukaku could be our Kane, both are virtually the same physically. Just Lukaku packed on the pounds whereas Kane looks lean and fit.

Harry Kane numbers today:

Total touches 23, in opponents half 10
Passes attempted 13, passes successful 10

Moura who was on pitch for 30 mins did more.

Have no idea what type of system they are playing at Spurs, he's slow and sluggish but I still see him playing deep and sometimes on wing. Todays' performances looked like that one of a retired pro, not one of Spurs fans proclaimed 'best striker in the world'.

The whole team was off the pace to be fair, it's hard to shine as a striker in these kinds of games when you're dominated.

Will go down as a rich man's Le Tissier. Should have gone to Real or United when he had the chance.

What is a striker meant to do when your team is completely pinned back and you get zero service?

We were awful today. No service from midfield. We saw what happens last week when you give Kane opportunities.

Not one ball in to the box for him, not one. We had about 5 touches in the box as a team, it was a joke.

Lucas got more touches because he's a wide player starting from deeper.

I've only watched a few games here and there but does Eriksen seem a bit off the past year?

Seems like he's not producing when it matters or is as sharp compared to before. He had a poor CL final game imo.

He got no service at all. What's he supposed to do if the team can't get the ball to him?

I take your point of Spurs being pretty terrible but are the expectations so low of 'best striker in the world' that you can't expect him to do the basics?

Given Kane's frame and size, you'd expect him to throw his weight around to challenge the opposition or hold the ball up. He did neither, in fact he kept going wide in order to get more involved but Walker had him covered.

Also, Kane was pretty terrible last week vs Villa as well. Faffing around at half-way line, sometimes out wide too. In the end, him being in the box got the job done. Which btw was also pretty fortunate.

Look at his average position this week, even Moura pushed through the middle than him! Can't anoint him as best in the business if he can't fancy himself against a CB pairing of Otamendi and Laporte.

Haven't been impressed with him since before the last World Cup. He might have won the golden boot but he was dreadful in Russia imo. He was so sluggish and looked knackered all the time. In the latter stages of matches he could barely make it over the half way line when England were counter attacking. His teammates would just run by him. He's looked similar in the majority of matches I've seen him in since.
Spurs actually look a lot better without him recently. When he came back into the side near the end of last season he totally killed their title push. I know he's a good finisher but he's not a patch on a prime Wayne Rooney for me, at the moment he's beginning to look more like Lukaku every game. He can no longer play at a high tempo for 90 mins and I'm glad spurs refused to sell to us.

Even with little service, he was disappointing.
He got Walker and Otamendi in a couple of one on one situations and lost the ball every time.

The best player have off days. He was poor today, but under circumstances in which he barely got a touch of the ball so the likelihood is he was frustrated and tried to overplay when he did see it. How many opportunities did he have to hold the ball up, 3 or 4 all game? Our whole team struggled badly with their pressure, I don't think a single player looked good in possession, with Eriksen too basically being on the periphery the entire game.

Against Villa he came up with two excellent finishes, the second of which was pure class.

I think in games where we struggle to get the ball he has a tendency to drift a bit, which isn't always a good thing. But he's doing this out of frustration in games where we're simply failing to get anything good going as a team, tactically we were an absolute mess today and when you have a striker like Kane who thrives in and around the penalty area, he's always going to struggle under those circumstances. Like I said, not a single cross in to him all game, nothing played to his feet in and around the box.

Lucas came in a bit later and was used as an out ball because of his pace and ability running with the ball. I do think the game was more suited to him in general because we played it entirely on the counter (in these situations Son is a better option to Kane) and created nothing when we had the ball.

Kane's absolute class, but if I was Pochettino I'd consider dropping him against City for the exact reasons you've said. Everyone knew what the pattern of the game would be today, and Otamendi (especially) is far more vulnerable to Moura than Kane due to Moura's pace.

Indeed. Tactically this game just wasn't at all suited to Kane, you need to get him involved in and around the box and get crosses in to the area. We kept playing like we still had Son up top like last season, which was never going to work.

Especially since Eriksen looked completely fecking disinterested in actually playing the game. When the man closest to you and the one who you'd expect to create can't be arsed, what can you be expected to do as a striker?

Think he's a fantastic player but there's no doubt in the last 12 possibly 18 months or so his all round play has dipped a level or two - wonderful goalscorer still mind.

Kane is the last of a dieing breed of top level out and out strikers.

Most top teams play with a front three now, and Kane isn't suited to this formation.

Spurs would play a lot better with a front three of Lamela,Son and Lucas in my opinion.
