Harry Kane MBE | Performances

Re-read your post.
My post clearly means to say that it's not a certainty that City will progress given that Spurs have done very well without Kane this season. Maybe you should take that for what it is rather than come up with ridiculous conclusions.

Then they don't truly need him, and ergo should sell him for huge money now that he's a famous name.
He is making a correct observation, you are jumping the gun with the "logical" conclusion. Sounds more wishful than logical.

Why are people talking like Kane has some sort of weak ankles? Delph golf swang and stood right on his ankle with full force! that's why it went over. Very dangerous tackle as we've seen.

Unfortunately Kane should stop these Macho 50/50 tackles as it's just not worth it.

Kane should move to Man Utd., yes.
Lolz, thought that was the gist of it.

Speaking of Spurs sans Kane, what I will never understand is why we didn't chase Son before Spurs did. Was such an obvious play after the great service we got from Park: same outstanding mental/workrate attributes, would obviously see us as a dream club, and even the suits would love the stranglehold on Korean fanbase.

Actually, I do understand, we seesawed from Moyes to LVG and had Mickey Mouse running our transfer dealings. No feckin' clue.

Because it always seems to cause him serious damage, happens very regularly now. I'm not saying that tackle couldn't injure anybody, it just seems whenever something goes on in that area he's out for months.

But yes I agree, he needs to calm down a tad. I get that it's a part of his game to ruffle some feathers and Pochettino will love that, but it's not worth the injuries.

Looked to me like Kane tried to leave a bit on Delph and got trod on as a consequence.

IIRC Son was rather a mixed bag at Leverkusen, and not really in any of the elite clubs sights, hence why we were able to get him for a reasonable price. He had shown ability there but was certainly not considered a top tier talent by most.

I don't think it would have been a good signing for you, tbh. He struggled at us in the first season and then has gradually kicked on since, improving year on year. Would he get that same time & patience at a club like United, with the manager turmoil you've had there? Would he have developed in the same way? Even with us there were heavy rumours of him moving on 2nd season, he really was quite poor and very frustrating to watch.

I'll take your word for it. I just came across him in the 2014 WC and he struck me as the next Park. Squaddie, mind, and it's not like I expected him to get this good, but for ~15M I would have had a punt. But then, I always value temperament/attitude a lot higher in raw talents, while most are drawn by tekkers.

Nah, he went to shut the pass down but never raised his foot passed a blocking action. If he wanted to do Delph he would have, but he backed out. Unfortunately Delph didn't get that memo and swang through with full force, expecting Kane to go at him.

I'm pretty sure most of them have been through contact though rather than just rolling them by himself.

Also, we're not better without Kane. I'm not really interested at looking at statistics based on a short period of time where we had a easy run of fixtures without him and managed to scrape through because of quite a few late goals and a lot of determination. Our performances were not good against not very good sides, but yes Son came up with some quality and we got the points.

Kane's return coincided with a few harder fixtures and we lost a bit of confidence, and maybe pushing him straight in to the lineup upset the balance a bit. I do also think it was also a bit of a coincidence, you can't blame Kane when he scores vs Southampton and Burnley but the defence simply doesn't do its job. Our best performances have all come with him leading the line superbly and we always look a more dangerous side with him on the pitch, even against City we scored but it was from pretty much our only attack after Kane went off.

We'll struggle at the Etihad. Kane draws fouls, holds the ball up, and is generally a handful. We'll have a bit more pace on the counter with Son there but Kane being out is a huge blow.

Ok Harry.

Bit gutted actually. Gives City a better chance in the second leg and it would be amazing to see England winning an actual trophy. I think they'll still get top 4 without him.

Watch the video and open your eyes. If Kane tried to do him he would have gone in studs forward and done it, wouldn’t he. Instead he just hovers his leg in front to block it.

Ignore the shite music in the video. About 14/15 seconds in shows him quite clearly looking to make contact with Delph. The ball is gone before Kane even stretches his leg out. He also doesn't even look at the ball, he never takes his eyes off Delph.

When I played football, I'd be a couple of feet in front of the player if I wanted to block a long pass, not trying to make contact. I also didn't say Kane tried to "do him" I said he tried to leave a bit on him. There's a difference between trying to injure somebody studs up and making unecessary contact to let somebody know you're there. The second scenario is what Kane did for me, he could have pulled out but he didn't and got hurt because of it.

Are people actually blaming Delph for his injury?

Shame for kane but there was no need to go in like that and unfortunately he got injured because of it.

Son had to be convinced to go to the PL ... he had basically come of age as a footballer in Germany (moved to Hamburg when he was only 16) and played his entire career there. He didn't speak any English at all (and still speaks better German than English now) and was well established in the Bundesliga. In fact, part of the reason his very first season with Spurs was poor was because the only person at the club he could speak to and hang out with was Kevin Wimmer and he almost returned to Germany.

As for being "up and down" at Leverkusen ... he scored 21 league goals in 2 seasons as a 21&22 year old wide attacking player on a CL squad. His talent was pretty obviously clear (he was nicknamed Sonaldo for a reason), and when Spurs bought him he was the most expensive Asian footballer ever. I think there's been a lot of creative rewriting of history regarding his time at Hamburg & Leverkusen by PL fans who didn't see him play.

There were Leverkusen fans on multiple forums/online who said that Son was inconsistent, talented but was quite often dropped to the bench at Leverkusen.

Who denied his talent? It was consistency that was an issue. And it's not just PL fans rewriting history, there were plenty of fans of German football who didn't rate him as highly as you're making out, and the most expensive Asian footballer is hardly a difficult record to break. He was obviously a good player in Germany, but far from a top tier talent, hence why the elite clubs were not vying for his signature. You don't get a top class attacking wide player for 22 million pounds.

I don't know what you're trying to argue really .. I never said he wasn't good, but there were doubts about his ability to do it at the top level, that's all. I also watched him at Leverkusen quite a few times, and he was capable of brilliance, but his technique was really inconsistent, something he still struggles with sometimes. His first touch was really off but then he would do something brilliant in the next move.

Are there any Leverkusen/Hamburg fans on here that could throw their opinion in? I seem to remember most German football fans I spoke to when he signed saying that we should expect some brilliant moments but that he's inconsistent and might struggle to adapt. I really don't think he was ever as highly rated as you're making out..

The injury was Kane's fault. He's not being cynical but he simply goes in to tackles without thinking much at times, because he's desperate to keep the tempo up and is very combative.

Unfortunately that style puts him at a high risk of injuries, especially when he's clearly prone to ankle issues.

The fault isn't Kane's or Delph's. Unfortunately for Kane, he's injured that ankle far too many times before and he needs to keep rushing back before the ligaments make full recovery. The pain might go away but the ligaments need time to fully heal and get strong. If they keep bringing him back early, it'll have long term repercussions.

It's his 'fault' to the extent that if you go in hard like that, you risk injuring yourself. It's not really necessary, particularly for a striker.

A Spurs supporter in my office wants him to be sold, no joke. Reckons they play better without him and doesn't like his attitude. I don't think any Spurs supporter here agrees with that though:)

He's an idiot. No offence to him or anything, but a tit.

The only decent argument for selling Kane would be if we could get 200m+ for him and it was guaranteed all of it would be reinvested sensibly (Liverpool style) in to the team.

I don't get the argument that we play better without him, when all our best performances this season have been with Kane in the team. Our football during the period he was missing was woeful, we scraped results but did not play well at all.

As for his attitude, what? He's probably got the best attitude in the whole squad. The star man yet runs his heart out and isn't a primadonna, nor does he complain about wages/lack of trophies/whatever, like most players at his level would.

Just repeating what he said pal. Was a bit taken aback that a Spurs supporter wanted him sold.

I know, it's just bizarre .

I don't know a single Spurs fan who doesn't adore him. A world class striker at the club who is seemingly happy to be patient and stay? We're very, very lucky.

I certainly don’t want him sold and I love the guy but I do wish he would pull his neck in a bit, if he continues with these frankly stupid and unessesary challenges he will end up doing perminamt damage to both himself and his career. Most of these ankle injuries have came from stupid challenges, he is shite at slide tackling too. If I was Poch I would simply tell Kane now he has kicked his last ball this season, he always comes back to soon and looks a fraction of the player he is long rest fighting fit for next season. If we reach the CL final and he is fit I’d play him but that’s a massive IF .

He's just very determined and desperate to prove himself, and unfortunately that can lead to stuff like this. You can see why he made the most out of his talent, by all reports he's an animal in training as well.

Agreed though, Kane should be left out for the rest of the season and then spend the summer properly healing that ankle.

He reminds me of those great players from Sevilla, Valencia or Atlético that refuse to go to Barça/Madrid.

I don’t think he would go down well in Spain at all TBH. I could see him in Germany at Munich, and domestically at United or City... if he can’t get what he wants with us, we’re safe for the foreseeable future holding onto him.

No doubt he is who he is through doing all he can to be the player he is rather than a “natural talent”. Having said that he needs to be smarter, he still had a chance at the golden boot and firing us on, he always ends the season strongly and given our fixtures it was all set up for him.

Maybe as he gets older he'll calm down a bit and hopefully will learn from something like this.

I'm mixed on Kane this season actually. His all round game has really improved, but for me he's been dropping too deep in games and we've kind of lost his presence in the box/leading the line. Still managed to get a good amount of goals, but in some games it's frustrating because he seems like he's playing as a midfielder, and I get that it's to see more of the ball and link up with our wide men, but he's the best striker in the world and should be in the box!

I think it’s mostly down to the fact we are shite in midfield in important areas, were missing that link from midfield to attack. We’re solid enough just no real drive forward. Dembélé had his flaws but he could carry the ball and link, I love Winks but his fitness is an issue and he isn’t the strongest, Sissoko has improved but still shite creatively, Dier, is Dier and good at what he does. Wanyama IMO is clearly done sadly. I actually wish we had took Gomes when we had the chance as while not perfect seems to be growing in the PL, he is big and strong and plays with his head up and coming into his prime.

That guy chooses different every time.

They do always look a better team without him though...and always have a month of being shite whenever he comes back from injury.

He'll also potentially be a problem to England's attack in future when you look at all the younger more versatile players coming through. He'll still score more goals than any of them which will make it difficult to ever justify not picking him.

He's a tory who talks like he's been hit with a brick. Things are always better without those kinds of people around.
