Harry Kane MBE | Performances

Was poor again. Should have kept his arse up front, for feck sakes. Didn't draw as many fouls as he has done previously. Needed him to be at his best but he disappointed. In fact, I think his all round game has been well below par this tournament.

Did next to nothing and that miss was very, very poor. Aside from the penalties all I've really seen him do good is hold the ball and draw fouls, which is useful, but went missing today. Shame really.

Weird as it may sound I think bringing on Welbeck today late on would've been a good idea. He hugs that LW well and can dribble, Kane was gone from about the 75th minute onwards and keeping him on purely for penalties was a bad decision (though with hindsight obviously).

I’m not going to get on board with him “going missing”.

We literally had two midfielders to choose from and logic suggests that you should only play one at a time. That means Henderson followed by Dier.

With that in mind, against that midfield, it was always going to be tough. He dropped deep and played his socks off, if anyone fell short, it was Alli.

Spurs' management of Kane is shocking. Guy was knackered at the end of the WC and needed a full rest and a couple of weeks at least to build up his fitness. Not the first time they've played him earlier than they should have and it will probably take its toil on his body in 5-6 years time.

Dood looked dead on his feet that Newcastle game, injury waiting to happen which will bite Spurs in the ass.

Yeah, he looked pretty tired today, much of his stuff didn't come off and you could see he was pretty much second to every ball, why risk him getting tiredness-related injury?

Is this the same with Pogba and a number of other players who also played in the final/bronze final? I thought Kane looked as sharp as most other players and he played okay. Of course preseason wasn't ideal for him as with many many other players who played in the world cup, but I don't know how you jump from that to a long term risk.

Was wondering this myself. Also a bit scared about Pogba, since it seemed like he had to go pretty deep yesterday.

At the same time, I think Pogba had a normal rest and pre-season last year but that didn't stop him from getting that nasty hamstring injury. And with the ridiculous amount of matches most top players have to play there's always the risk of fatigue related problems I guess.

About due a dip in form season?

Looking at the other greats of the league most had dips in form for varying reasons. Rooney and Drogba both had ups and downs, Ruud and RVP had injury hit seasons, even Shearer had both quieter seasons and injuries. Aguero has had a great run recently but had some wobbles before his current run like his 2012-13 where he played 30 and scored 12.

The only one really that breaks this trend is Henry, he went 2001-02 season to the 2005-06 season scoring 20+ goals a season. Even the two years prior to his 01-02 season he posted 17 goals. It wasnt until his last season at Arsenal in 06-07 that his numbers dropped off due to injury.

Kane has now scored 90 goals in his last 94 appearances for club and country.

If this is another season like last then he equal the incredible four peak seasons of Alan Shearer.

The quality of goals is a good indicator to predict if a striker is a 1 season wonder, based on the assumptation that his mental attitude remains fine.

Kane scored some really good goals in 14/15 through tricky footwork etc. He wasn't a tap-in merchant if I recall correctly.

Still isn’t fully fit IMO, should have had 2 yesterday, he had so much room and I’m sure he is disappointed.
Agreed, though I think the long break between the last two fixtures helped. Still, will be great to see what he’s able to produce once he reaches peak fitness.

Neither was Kevin Philips in 99/00

Yeah but he only made contact with about 30% of those.

In all seriousness he's a ridiculously good goal scorer. His header last night was perfect.

He's a safe bet for the golden boot as I don't think Salah or anyone else will match him for goals this season.

Depends on Aguero's fitness. City destroy the cannon fodder with ease, and in games like that it's easy pickings for a guy like Aguero, just like against Huddersfield. He can fill his boots in these games with the creative talent that they have available.

That said, we say this every season and he ends up getting injured so likelihood is it'll happen again.

He's scoring in August for once though. Usually he's not off the mark until some time in September so he loses a month.

Aguero's more likely to be rotated with Jesus whereas Kane will start every league game he's fit for. Isn't Aguero's fitness record worse than Kane's?

Valid point about possibly rotating Aguero, and yeah whilst Kane has had a couple of injuries Aguero definitely has the dodgier record.

There's every chance that he stays at Spurs in my opinion which also means there's a reasonable chance he'll never win a trophy in his career, which is just ridiculous. Although I think if they stay at their current level then surely they'll win an FA/League cup at some point in the next 5/6 years while Kane is still good.

Good goal. He was taking about emulating Messi's CL goalscoring record in the presser yesterday, needs to move on from Spurs if that actually is a serious dream of his.

Tonight was the most sharp I’ve seen him in a long time. Beggared belief that he was playing as a playmaker when Llorente came on though.

To think of the time when people tried hard to compare him to Lukaku. That was fantastic piece of play only Drogba and couple of other top no9 would be possible to do, shame he will probably retire in Spurs or go to Real who will be willing to pay that money for him. He'd be perfect United striker. What makes him a world class striker is also that he's very consistent and works hard every game. Something Lukaku is terrible at..
Like I said, I only saw extended highlights, but I got a whiff of Kane vs us at Wembley last February(?). Unplayable. He did what he wanted. Even though he can look akward he always seem to get out with the ball under control. Him in our team would make a world of difference. He’d love it with Pogba, Martial, Rashford (obviously) and Sanchez.

Edit: moved our exchange here as to not derail the Rashford thread.
