Harry Kane | Bayern Munich player

I feel like Utd might go back in August if they haven’t found an alternative by then, like they did with Antony after initially dropping interest

I can’t think of any top level realistic alternative striker

I could be wrong but if memory serves me right there was never any end interest tweets about Antony last summer. Once Utd have walked away from a deal like they have here then that’s it until next window.

What would be the 5 positions?

For me, GK and ST definitely.

RB, CM (specifically Eriksen) and not sure Varane can last a season, so probably CB. Some people aren't sure about Antony so would probably say RW instead of CB, or even both.

Beyond that depth is also an issue.

Paying 100m for a 30-year-old guy with one year left on his contract is a dereliction of duty,

Yeah, I can see it for Messi but damn near nobody else.

How many outfield ever bought at 30 would be worth 100M? Messi, Di Natale, Giggs, Modric, Zlatan, Lewandowski, Benzema, Zanetti. It's not that Kane doesn't belong in this list, it's that there's probably 4 or 5 Van Persies or Ruud Van Nistelrooys where you get 2 quality seasons but it's still a losing transfer overall.

Really glad that

A) The club isn't sanctioning an ridiculously overpriced transfer fee for this

B) We haven't let this drag on all summer

Nah.

I love a good groundhog day transfer saga....

Remember that Thiago topic with gifs and shit?
I'd love another one just like that!

The only positive about not getting Kane is if we get a cheaper striker we can hopefully use the saved money to get a top keeper like Costa

Bit worrying who is that cheaper striker and will they be able to take enough pressure off Hojlund

Thiago was the one that broke me. I lost my interest in sagas after that. No idea how people are still doing it with FDJ etc almost a decade later

Maybe there won't be one this year with Kane now completely off the table. Can't think of anyone else we are interested in who scream saga

FDJ 2.0

This time around with even less interest from him

I forgot about RB and looks barring a serious change of heart it's not a priority this summer

Probably not. We'll be lucky to get three first team players this Summer I think. I agree with the other poster though, 5 are probably needed to properly challenge but we're a way off that yet.

I run a retail business mate, I understand market value. The point I was making is that if Levy said to Kane that he could leave next year provided he gets an excellent fee, but then prices him at something way above excellent, in the knowledge that no-one will meet the valuation, then that is disingenuous. As I said though, more fool Kane for agreeing to it.

Yes, definitely agree.

Great news. Kane would have been brilliant for us but there’s no point ruining our summer on his inability to force a move and Levy’s lack of desire to sell.

Levy quoted RM €118m for Kane. He would definitely ask for more from us and blowing all our transfer budget on a 30 year old with 1 year left in his contract is just dumb business. I get it if a world class ST is all we need to start challenging City, but we are far from it. We still need to fix our problems with our midfield (no replacement for Casemiro once he is out, Eriksen does not have the stamina to play full games all season with no adequate replacement for him etc.), our goalkeeper (let's face it DDG is not good enough for any top 4 clubs in the top 5 leagues) and our defense (Varane is injury prone, Maguire should be sold, Martinez is still currently injured).

We simply have too many issues to address for us to put all our eggs in Kane's basket. Unless our management suddenly became experts at selling players which I doubt, it is simply unwise to spend probably €150m on Kane with 1 year left in his contract due to Levy while having a summer long soul sapping saga.

Why is Levy so against selling to other PL clubs? not like we're direct rivals or anything. They're shit currently, he needs to forget about the next 2-3 years and focusing on rebuilding instead, that means selling the old timers and buy talented regens. He sacked Poch and the club has been going downhill since, when will he realize he's made a mistake? if he keeps refusing to sell and end up losing stupidly expensive players for free then that's another problem. No money to sign replacements.

Time to focus on other strikers. Hopefully the scouting department did their homework and have identified our striker targets. We can't blow out entire budget on one player.

What do Spurs fan actually have to say about selling Kane to a rival?

From an egoestic POV I can understand why Levy wouldn't sell to us if it made him hugely unpopular, but my guess would just be that Spurs fans are somehow realistic and rather want to start a rebuild for the Kane money

I don't see Kane leaving on a free next year. Levy will sweet-talk him again and tie him down on another deal at some point this year. He'll do it when Spurs go on a decent scoring run, so it'll look like they've turned a corner and are going places.

Can't actually see Kane playing for another club other than Spurs. Personally, I don't think he's brave enough to make the move, especially the older he gets.

He’s probably the best striker on the planet right now truth be told but the problem is his age.

Everyone will go on about Haaland and Mbappe like we are playing FIFA but Kane is a more polished footballer than either due to his experience.

In City’s team might even argue he’d have netted as many as Haaland last season and given a boat load more key passes.

Would he net as many goals for PSG as Mbappe? Yes he would week in week out.

However… £100m and giant wages for a 30 year old when our squad isn’t the strongest. Never gonna happen and shouldn’t either.

If he wants to come on a free next season. Hell yeah pay him a massive signing on bonus.

Highly unlikely in my opinion. Kane saw how that played out. Being out of contract next year gives him total freedom. He could still re-sign with Spurs, but it will allow him to shop without Levy having the final say. I think he leaves Tottenham either this summer or the next. He wants to compete for trophies. That’s not happening with what they have in their squad right now.

Not buying Kane is going to come back to bite us on the arse... a guaranteed goal-scorer. even if it was only for two years (and I think there's easily three in him), his goals would give us a chance of challenging for trophies and, presumably after the takeover, they'd be money to replace him

Wha part of " Levy is not selling to United " do folk not understand.

You think paying above 100 million for him even if Levy wanted to sell to us would be a smart move?

Watch him labelled as a traitor when he fecks off to a rival for free.

Key difference is both Haaland and Mbappe have already proven it on the biggest stages.

But he missed a penalty in a world cup semi final mate (after already having scored one which gets ignored of course).
The pressure for the second penalty was a lot higher as there was barely any time left, you could see it all over his face. I was convinced he would miss at the time and felt it was ridiculous to have a player taking such a high stakes pen against a keeper he'd been playing club football with for a decade. Massive mental disadvantage knowing your opponent knows you inside out.

Not sure who could have stepped up instead to be fair and we all know England's record when it comes to penalties.

According to the Guardian today, we have ended our interest in signing Kane. Smoke and mirrors?

Every year I jump on the muppetwagon and always end up disappointed.

This year i cannot join the muppetwagon :( for now .The players who are linked to us don't give me excitement at all.

Last summer the Frenkiewagon was something else, from early May to late August the party was lit ,but unfortunately Frankie spoiled it !
