Haha Newcastle

What a weird team. They looked excellent at the start of the season. Since their cup final beating us a few months back they’ve be dreadful.

The teams with the dough not doing so well - Newcastle and Chelsea

I never knew how spot on Jimmy Carr's Geordie impersonation was until I heard Anthony Gordon speak in Newcastle Christmas vid.

Unless he's not a Geordie, than his Antony Gordon impersonation was spot on. Even more so since he did it when Anthony was about 3.

I’ve read this post 3 times and I’ve still not understood it, sorry

Anthony Gordon is scouse. He doesn’t speak in a Geordie accent. Unless you mean Jimmy Carr did a scouse impersonation, which sounds like how Gordon speaks, or was Gordon doing a Geordie impersonation in the Xmas video you’re referring to?

I heard the Newcastle vid and Gordon sounded exactly like Jimmy Carr doing an impersonation in one of his old shows. Since Anthony said, Hi Geordies I assumed he was one, but then realized, wait maybe he isn't a Geordie and the impersonation I remember was a different accent. Which it was I guess :wenger:

They’re falling apart now. Howe is surely on borrowed time there! Wonder if he’ll get to dip into the market in January or if it’ll be someone else doing it instead

Can they crumble to shit so we can get Isak on the cheap ?

Do they only run like their lives depend on it vs us?

They looked like they could barely run all game.

Yeah and celebrate goal kicks like they won the league.

Be great if all that hotel business turns out to be true and all.

7.53? Holy feck that's mental!

Wow, didn't watch it. Must be a record! With variance, could have easily scored double figures based off that.

Officially a record.

Few stories doing the rounds, about a few players, a hotel room and extra marital activities, some drugs involved and maybe someone knocked up a teenager. Doubt if any of it is true at all but it would be a laugh if it was.

Their better players will get itchy feet in the summer.

Expect Guimares and Isak to move on.

Why does Eddie Howe seem to be immune from critism by the media? He has spent the same ammount as ETH (who is regularly critisised) and has his side in 9th 2 points behind Man Utd?

Is this true ?
ETH didn’t inherit a relegation team

Because it's Newcastle nobody give's a feck what's happening at a relatively small club.

Surely that just means Liverpool were shite in front of goal, only scoring four.

Anyway, isn't the highest goals scored in the league 9 goals? What was the xG in the United Ipswich game?

It’s weird. Newcastle were always a big club. They get bought by an oil country with loads of money and now they seem small.

If you mean the 94/95 game then xG was not calculated back then, it's a much more recent thing.
But we've beaten Southampton 9-0 in February 2021 and our xG for that game was just 3.7 xG (compared to 0.5 xG by Soton). When Pool mauled Bournemouth 9-0 last season it was also below 4 xG.

never a big club

one of the few teams around that do not share a city. Which explains the cult

Without the slightest bit of exaggeration their keeper just had one of the best goalie performances of all time.

I disagree. I think they were one of the five biggest teams at one time, especially in the 90s before the Chelsea resurgence with Keegan coaching and Shearer doing his thing and the iconic Newcastle Brown shirts. They were considered big imo.

By what metric?

They much like Leicester, Southampton or Sheffield are a relatively big club in terms of the English pyramid sure, but they were never really a 'big club'. Their fans have done a decent job convincing a lot of people they're massive, they get great attendances but they're one of the few one club towns with decent sized populations so it makes sense.

I think you're confusing best teams with biggest clubs. At no point in the last 50 years have they been bigger than any of the following clubs.

United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs, Everton, Man City.

Two financially driven 2nd place finishes didn't change that.

They need to hire some creative accountants, maybe Man C could show them a few tricks.

They might have a big fanbase and be a big city, but they aren't a big football club! They haven't won a trophy since 1955, haven't won the league since 1927!

Yes they have. I was on a school trip to Norway at the time, which I why I remember.

1969: Fairs (ie UEFA) Cup I think.
