Haha Newcastle

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this about every recent opposition fan who's signed up. There are plenty of great additions to the forum. I'm just saying that, throughout my time here, it's easy to tell who's signed up to actually contribute to the forum and who's signed up because whichever club they support is going through a good period whilst we flounder. It's why so many of them disappear once the good period ends.

Oh, yeah, I have the utmost respect for Arsenal, and there's loads of good posters on here who support them. I wanted them to win the league last season and do again this year. I mean, as long as it looks like we're miles off challenging ourselves, I'd rather they win it than Liverpool or City. Or, eventually, even Newcastle, who'll no doubt turn into long term challengers themselves.
Yeah I feel the same way. They're a properly run club and while a big part of their fanbase is annoying, I'd still rather they win it over the other usual suspects. It would be deserved.

Without getting too deep into the whole "pashun" thing and clichés, the idea that Newcastle fans would stop supporting their club is mental to me.

I grew up being able to see SJP from my window, attended matches with my dad from 5, who attended matches with his dad from young before that. The club is the beating heart of the city, football is literally a driving force in day to day life up here, if you could just drop your club in an instant then to me you are not a fan. You clearly don't have the same connection to it.

Are we asking golf fans to stop supporting golf due to PIFs involvement, or does this only very specifically apply to football?
The top fan argument, of course.

It's a football team, as important as it is to you or anybody, there are certain things that are more important. You are just as much of a "fan" if supporting a vehicle used by a murdering, freedom oppressing, genocidal government is too hard for you and doesn't fit with your morals. You're absolutely entitled to stop supporting that club because it does not fit with your values - that doesn't make you any less of a fan before that. It's actually easier than to try to tie yourself in knots justifying and rationalising the new ownership.

It already is absolutely no longer what it represented for you growing up. It's now a soulless husk used for sports washing.

If that ghastly scenario ever happens, there would be 30 more Arsenal newbies running amok in here, lauding it over you in their droves

Yeah, loads signed up under the pretence of wanting to contribute to the forum, but so many of them were obviously here to laugh at Maguire and us in general because, for that period, they were doing better than us. The amount of posts I read from them saying Evans was a better player. And, as predicted, the majority have been nowhere to be seen for a long time now.

It's the same with Newcastle now, but they probably won't disappear because Newcastle are only going to get stronger.
Yeah I recall some of those convos. They reckoned they had superior players in most positions. Soyuncu was better than anything we had. Justin was better than Shaw etc. Laughable.

Mate, I don't know. They are far from perfect - Bayern that is. I am glad they listened to their supporters and dropped Qatar. Obviously Rwanda is no ideal choice so I hope they (maybe) learn from this. It's the hope that kills you...
Are you sure about that? I read that it was actually Qatar who decided not to continue the partnership...

Tbh, despite the different structure in Germany, I doubt that we Bayern fans have any real say in sponsorships, signings, salaries etc. no matter how vocal we are about it.

I'm hoping the admins will have a field day and have a bit of a cull :)

They should me make me admin for a day, or they might as well include me in that cull because it will be an unbearable world to live in a world where fecking Arsenal fans are happy

Because if NUFC fans are responsible - because we didn't walk away from our club - then every other club's fan not walking away from the league for allowing PIF ownership has the same blood on their hands as well.
I would. I would delete my account on the caf. I've stopped paying for Sky Sports anyway on the basis of the above, I do think the government and league has been corrupted to such an extent I doubt I'll ever bother with a match outside United and the lower leagues ever again.

If we joined them it would be the final nail in the corpse of the flogged dead horse that is football for me.

I mean I understand exactly what you mean, I've spoke to fellow mancs that feel the complete opposite to me so it's not like you're alone or anything but I hate it. I hate that football is now getting reduced to clubs from lower down hoping a middle Eastern oligarch - or probably a nascent Russian mafioso leadership once Putin is done - takes over their club and invests billions to win trophies. I speak to people from these clubs and they're quite happy - they aren't dining from the top table anyway so it makes absolutely no difference to them who is spending money and winning. They just hope that someone comes and buys them. And that's the worst of it, even though it's directly affecting them right now insofar as while these clubs are now train sets, there's now zero hope of EVER joining anyone at the top or pulling a Leicester ever again.

It's all part of the same charade we are playing. The World cups in Russia, Qatar and Saudi. It's just the flagrant in-your-face corruption of institutions like football, including all the rule-bending and swerving and soon-to-be regulatory capture. They capture the media - quite literally.

Maybe this is all a bit overdramatic - a lot of people would think so I'm sure - but it's done a lot of damage to the game I used to enjoy and to be honest I'm close to done with it all.

Romanticise it all you want but that club you support is now owned by the Saudi government for the sole purpose of sports washing.

If being a fan means unconditionally supporting your club whatever actions they take or whatever people are in charge then I suppose you are indeed a better fan than those you think less of. I think they just have different values and priorities.

for the sole purpose of sports washing.
sole purpose? Are you sure about that? Given the continued growth of the product 'premier league', as demonstrated by the new tv rights contract, one could argue that it's a great investment as well...

Having a football club is not particularly a good investment. Requires a lot of investment, work, etc. with little RoI. If you have billions and billions, like PIF do, and your concern is returns/dividends, you don't invest in a club. So yes, it was bought with the sole purpose of sports washing, of course. How anyone can argue otherwise is absurd - does anyone think that PIF has any emotional connection to the city of Newcastle or SJP? That Sheikh Mansour cares about Manchester?

You need to look at your own clubs strategic partnership with Saudi from 2017 and Saudi’s 2030 Vision which included developing sporting strategies. One could argue that PIF’s takeover of a PL club, which turned out to be Newcastle, is a culmination of that that Strategic Partnership with Saudi, perfectly plausible, who knows.

You guys (if it's more than one of you that keep bringing up this strategic partnership thing) seem to think it's a lot more of a gotcha than it is.

You are literally describing sports washing.

I'm still here & still enjoying the place even though we're in the Champ !

Yeah, that's why I didn't say all Leicester fans. You and @Jimmy Skitz were not who I had in mind with that comment. I'm glad you stuck around, though! The amount that didn't was very telling.

Game raising against a big team like a proper small team.

Getting done dry by an Everton team flirting with relegation

Man nights like this must hurt so much for them as they know they’ve literally sold their soul, become the bad guys and literally have blood on their hands and they don’t even get the satisfaction of being that good.

You are not talking about the Newcastle fans here right?

Fantastic win for my team given the injuries, got to add it was the WORST away support I’ve seen this season by a mile….
Bournemouth were the exception if anything. Since the start of last season we've only lost to teams outside of the "big six" three times - Brighton, Villa and Bournemouth.
We all enjoy your fume……..it’s becoming a bit like our nearest and dearest!!
Haha

I hope the owners get sanctioned and they go bust.

fecking miserable set of bastards, 99% have a saudi flag in their profiles

Look up what literally means.

According to the Cambridge dictionary its to emphasizing how great an amount is or to emphazise a statement. So you are underlining / emphasizing how much blood the fans have on their hands?

Thats still an insane statement.
