They've always thought very highly of themselves as a club. Not entirely sure why. Used to have a soft spot for them but they can feck right off now, what with their Saudi billions.

yeah that’s my point, we’ve been crippled in literally every position but it gets no mention in the media just that we’re in free fall and everyone’s unhappy at the club etc.

it’s a really a joke how the media outlets go after us but I guess we generate more attention.

Yeah I try hard not to pay it any attention but even a couple of the Newcastle fans I know are trotting out the injury excuse :lol:

It’s weird. We’ve not been cut much slack at all but there are ready made excuses trotted out for other clubs. Just annoying, that’s all.
 
That was one of the most enjoyable games of the season. Saw they were singing that ten hag chant again. Big bollocks to be singing that when he’s the reason you lost a cup final last year and you’re somehow behind his absolutely rubbish team this year. Despite winning two games about 12-0. Wankers. They’ve also become entitled, giving it large to Trippier, forgetting how garbage they were about 24 months ago.

We have improved a lot. Under Bruce we were rock bottom in November 2021 having not won a single game, or even looked like winning a game. We are now playing CL football, and I assure you the majority of the fan base don't care at the moment if we're losing to teams like Dortmund. The weekend was frustrating of course, but it happens.

We are struggling at the moment due to injuries - at the weekend we had to start Lewis Miley, who is 17, in the core of our midfield. We had no fit striker. We're bringing on Matt Ritchie in 2023. Yes these are "excuses", but there comes a point where excuses just become "reasons" if you're rational about it. It's the same for other clubs too, and other clubs in the same position have struggled as well, even those with billion £ squads.
 
It has been a bit galling the last couple of days hearing pundits talking about how injuries are now hurting them and Spurs. I doubt their injury lists touch what United have been dealing with this season.

Used to it really. People say the forum is becoming RAWK-ish or Bluemoon-ish when it's pointed out, but the facts are out there. The media narrative is completely different for Utd than for any other club, and it's not quite "conspiracy theory" levels of discourse to point it out.

Depends how you look at it. You guys have had more injuries, but more spread out rather than hitting all at the same time along with some suspensions, you also have a squad that cost over a billion quid and should be better positioned to handle it. I haven't seen you resorting to 17 year olds in the heart of midfield, or bringing a player like Matt Ritchie off the bench who was finished at the top level years ago.

Newcastle have spent on the first team, but the backup squad is made up of either inexperienced academy kids, or plodders who were playing for us in the championship. The two situations don't really compare imo, much as your fans seem to want them to.

Not sure how correct you are with the "more spread out" bit. There's been times this season when United's three left backs have all been injured, including the emergency loan signing to cover the injuries. If you want to talk about players who were "finished at the top level years ago" Jonny Evans has started 5 games for United this season, he is of course now injured too.

I think it’s more to do with the narrative rather than who it’s for, for you it’s “injury ravaged” for us it’s “Man Utd are garbage” (which is also partly true).

At one point our whole back four, plus two back up left backs were injured all at once, not to mention at some point:

Shaw/Malacia/Regullion
AWB
Varane/Martinez/Evans
Casemiro/Amrabat/Mount/Mainoo
Hojlund/Martial
Antony/Sancho/Amad

A lot of these at the same time, we’re either unavailable through injury/off the field issues, some of them significant players for the first team.

That's fair enough. I think there's always a weird reluctance from opposition fans to accept other teams actually have these issues tbh. It's always "oh here come the excuses", but as I said earlier, there's a fine line between an excuse and an actual reason.

I'm not going to argue with the source of the money, I'm no fan of the Saudis. Don't think anyone's looking for sympathy though, it's just the reality of the situation

All true but we’ve been put to the sword by lesser teams even with our injuries or before our injuries hit to this extent. I think the reason this manager like many others will fail here is not down to any of that but poor buys. He only needed Antony or Mount to have a great season for me and that’s not happening. I’ll go further, if those 2 don’t improve from current form, he won’t be a success here in my opinion. He shouldn’t be allowed to replace those positions again any time soon.

I've never been a fan of this rationale. It reminds me of when Mourinho wasn't backed with another CB because he already signed Bailly and Lindelof. Pep made a mistake with Bravo and was given the funds to correct his mistake by signing Ederson. Klopp made a mistake by signing Karius and was given the funds to replace him with Alisson. Yes, Antony and Mount cost a lot more money than those two (and I still have faith in the Mount signing being a success) but Ten Hag wasn't responsible for negotiating the inflated transfer fee for them. Is it fair to penalise him for 1 or 2 transfers not working out?

Let's say Tonali returns from his suspension and his performances are below par next season - should the Newcastle's owners say "well he cost us 60m so you'll have to find a way to fit him into your team as we're not replacing him anytime soon"?

I mean, there were numerous games this season where our entire defence and deeper midfield positions were out and we were playing players way down the pecking order. Hell, we were playing our 5th or even 6th choice leftback for much of the season (players who were out of position), were down to about our 5th choice right winger for a while (somebody who was out of position), started the season without a single striker available (that one was somewhat self-inflicted though) and had a period where most of our central midfielders were out.

We've got more depth, but it doesn't help much when our back-up players in those positions were also out.

Didn't Manchester United have a "strategic partnership" with the Saudis for years prior to our takeover, or does that not count because they didn't explicitly own you?
 
Wait till you see on Saturday night, they will play like demons. They always do against us, they somehow elevate themselves to an inhuman level. Yet when they are a goal up and have an extra man against Liverpool they still seem to find a way to bend over. Fergie was 100% correct about teams trying harder against United, Newcastle are a perfect example of this, happens every season
 
Newcastle fans have this notion they're rivals with United when their actual rivals are a pit village team
 
Are we really laughing at Newcastle winning at home and drawing away at PSG to a last minute goal?
