Watched Bowling for Columbine again over the weekend, for the first time in years. It's remarkable how little has changed since that film was made. People were angry and had protests after Columbine. It shocked the nation. It probably shocked the nation more than any other mass shooting, even more than Sandy Hook I reckon. I think each one after that, people had become desensitised to mass shootings and even though the children in Sandy Hook were younger, I don't think it had quite the same national impact.
I do find it funny how, 19 years later, the US is still finding everything else to blame, except guns. After Columbine, Marylin Manson and his genre of music were blamed, violent video games and films were blamed, poverty, mental health and all the usual suspects were blamed by the conservative right. Everything was at fault, except the ease at which guns could be obtained. 19 years later, not much has changed.
