Guardian- 2 Deals Provisionally Agreed for Summer

Going to assume one is Carvalho. One journalist tweeted that his agent had been shown round the training complex the other day and was not concerned about the prospect of Europa League football.

As for the other, it's anyone's guess. We've been linked with everyone under the sun.

And don't forget, Moyes has watched 39,432 players over 5,000,000 times.

Every fecking time

If Moyes is backed heavily in the market, it would mean he would be removed early next season if the results are not as expected. Glazers won't risk another season out of CL after spending money
He'll stay even if we spend 150 million and he finishes 8th. He's got Fergie's blessing and it won't go away.

I read this and I found this strange, should it be Moyes / Ed doing all the business? Or could it be that Glazer's bypassing both of them and Moyes is set to get the sacked ? :D

Aww... don't be so naive:lol: Glazers are involved because we're talking BIG money this summer. They don't know the first thing about football transfer dealings (neither did Woodward, but he's had a steep learning curve and a crash course in awesomeness from David Gill by now).

The idea of the Glazers being involved is so they can immediately sanction deals without having to delay them for owner confirmation. It makes up a lot of time.

Eventually the crowd will get on his back and his position will be untenable, if he doesn't improve.

Wasn't this the paper that had big, big, earth-shattering news that one time in January... and it turned out said news was that Inter Milan might make a £50million bid for Gareth Bale in 6 months?

Yeah, t'was, but Daniel Taylor is usually reliable when it comes to Utd.

Daniel Taylor seems to have direct info from Woodward. He was the only one who reported about Woodward's role in the Mata transfer a.k.a. Woodward fed him info.

I'd bet that 'provisionally agreed' means we've agreed terms with the players and will then negotiate with the clubs. So I wouldn't get too excited.

Yeah but that was the case with Mata wasn't it? If the player wants to go and fee is good enough then it's very rare you don't get them.

The release clause may be £37m but I'd be very surprised indeed if we paid anything remotely approaching that. It could quite easily be the case that for their own reasons (finances or whatever) Sporting are willing to cash in on him, in which case the release clause is irrelevant.

City, Monaco, Chelsea, PSG, Real would all pay that release clause, so you reckon we should try to haggle Sporting down to around £20m or something because he's only 21?

PSG signed 19 year old Marquinhos from Roma for £28m in the summer (we were after him aswell), so there'll be not problem with any of the top sides payin Carvalho's fee & we'll miss out again if we feck around with this whole "there's no value in the market" bullshit..

It's always good to know we're able to spend. My only fear is that given how Moyes has handled top-level talent already at his disposal that this'll be akin to casting Helen Mirran and Ralph Fiennes in a Ben Elton sitcom

No one's going to pay that sort of money for Carvalho.

I'm sure it was also the case with Baines, for example. Mata was slightly different in that he was a player Chelsea clearly didn't want and we paid a premium. The players we are being linked with at the moment are all valuable, first team players, so I don't see their clubs being so keen to usher them out the door.

I think £37m is a good deal for one of the best players in the league at 25 years old.

Don't think we paid a premium at all personally.

Had he been playing regularly and in form, I'd agree. But it was clear Chelsea didn't fancy him. They wouldn't have gotten £37m elsewhere, IMO.

Isn't it the other way round? Agreed a fee with the club but not yet with the player?

At least, that's the way it's supposed to work. Even then, things can still go tits up. As we saw with Aaron Ramsey. Fairly sure there are other examples where we made an offer the club was happy with but the player decided to go somewhere else. Didn't that happen with Lucas Moura too?

No one's going to pay that sort of money for Carvalho.

We have to stop thinking like this. Just ask ourselves, would he be an asset to the team? If the answer is yes, let Ed Woodward and the Glazers figure out the money side of things since they have been exceptionally good at it so far. We need to stop fannying about and letting top talents slip through our fingers for the sake of 10/20%.

Hopefully us. Which will mean we havent messed around & someone else nips in & pays the clause...
To be fair I hope we pay £150m for him. Which will mean we don't care about the money and would be awesome.

But seriously, he's only broken into Sporting team recently, he apparently is pretty limited and £37m is a serious amount of money. It's more than Monaco paid for Moutinho.

That was part of a 70m combined deal. It's widely accepted that Porto deliberately agreed a low fee for him in return for an excessive fee for Rodrigues, do do Lisbon out of the money they were due from selling on fees.

Or maybe put it another way. This alleged fee for Carvalho is a lot less than Monaco paid for Rodrigues :smirk:
