Granit "The Hacker" Xhaka | Likes his reds

Tbf, still a good shooting power from distance, despite the deflection.

The one against Hull is more impressive.

It went in because de gea was thrown off by the deflection. Doubt it would have had any effect had he not got the deflection

I saw the game and he did virtually nothing all game. If this makes them play him for another season then amazing

Not sure who's more stupid - the people who compare him to Alonso or the people who say he is poor.

As always in football, his real ability is somewhere in the middle. Controlled the game with relative ease today and didnt look uncomfortable for even a second.

Arsenal fans are back again after hiding for the whole season. The most tiresome and embarrassing bunch of supporters on Caf by a huge margin.

He didn't control anything let's be honest.

Obviously any gooners crowing after that one deflected strike are eejits. He had a very good game, though. He's obviously a quality player who's having an iffy debut season and could go on to be an excellent signing. Dunno why United fans - of all people - would be so quick to write off a player like this when we're expecting/hoping players like Pogba and Mikhi to really show us what they've got in their second and subsequent seasons. I predict that a lot of comments from United fans in this thread will end up looking very silly indeed...

Typical the majority of us spend the season taking the piss out of him and he scores against us rather predictably.

Considering that Carrick wasn't appreciated not that long ago, it's hardly surprising. I remember how posters on here had to defend Carrick in 2011/12, because a lot of people were saying he's not that good.

Dear re-materializing soppy old Gooners,

If he costs you Top 4** between now & the end of the season right....

DON'T COME HERE*** SAYING YOU WEREN'T WARNED WILL YOU?

(**done anyway)

(***expect you won't tbf)

I've always wanted to be called an eejit. In all seriousness his range of passing is very impressive but he has struggled when pressed, something you didn't do yesterday and his defensive positioning and recklessness is a real problem. So he really needs to iron out both of those problems if he's going to be a top midfielder.

Mourinho made a mistake letting Xhaka have time and space yesterday, Fergie used to man mark Arteta who played a similar role for us and we consequently struggled.

The holes in his game outweigh the pluses, needs to step it up a lot next season. Spreading the odd nice ball here and there is no consolation for being a defensive liability.

In his defense none of the other components of the midfield he's in functions either.

do you want some of ours?

Goal aside, he's still an incredibly rash player and a red card waiting to happen. Was very lucky not to be booked on Sunday as well.

I understand Arsenal fans defending their players against lazy criticism like Ozil doesn't run much but praising scrubs like Xhaka or Welbeck is quite amusing. He scored a lucky goal and looked bang average against a United team that barely posed any threat - wohoo.

The "mistake" he made was picking a woefully inadequate central midfield. Which is one I suspect he won't make the next time we play Arsenal.

No he didn't.

Very good post, if teams stand off Xhaka and give him time to get his passing game going than he will be successful because he's a very good passer of the ball. It's when he's pressed high up that he will have problems and will never be a top player if he doesn't learn how do deal with this. Spot on about Arteta as well, remember a couple of games when Rooney in particular was very good at doing this.

He really needs to be paired with another midfielder who can carry some of the load against pressure. Predictably, Wenger seems to have not really understand what kind of player he was buying. He tried to make Xhaka into a Cazorla replacement but Xhaka isn't a Cazorla or Modric type with amazing close control and spatial awareness who can be paired with a destroyer like Coquelin and still hold up against the press. He needs another midfielder next to him who is at least decent in possession and who can carry the ball forward and present a threat if the press neglects him.

Xhaka-Ramsey has been by far the best pairing this season (post-Cazorla injury). Xhaka-Coquelin is just a disaster as they are very easy to press since teams can just focus on Xhaka knowing that if Coquelin ends up with the ball and space to move forward then its not really a problem since he can't use the ball dangerously anyway. Xhaka-Elneny is not that much better.

A lot of people saying that some decent player A, B or C is better than Pogba these days; its a silly notion and i fell secondhand embarrassment tbh.

If only we'd paid the 30m for Fellaini a few years ago when every pundit in the country was saying he's exactly what we need!

If only you had bought felliani, then we wouldn't have to see the bloody lump every week (when not suspended of course)

As always in football, his real ability is somewhere in the middle. Controlled the game with relative ease today and didnt look uncomfortable for even a second.

fixed*

Good player but sheesh it was a deflected goal. He is still your average Arse donkey midfielder for me who looks great on the ball but ultimately cannot control anything

Cazorla is absolute top class for me - any team would have missed him.

Why are the oppo fans allowed to WUM like that?

Out of interest...
Same reason you're allowed to pollute the board with your fanboy rubbish?

Nothing wrong with our resident Arsenal fans celebrating their win. If you don't want to read any of it, or if you can't handle it, then get out of the thread.

Carrick has the same "problem" as well. He was world class, one of the best midfielders in Europe a decade ago, and used to run the game whenever he was allowed space and time to think. When pressed, he usually had a tougher time. Milan in 2007 at the San Siro and Barcelona in 2009 were the salient ones for me. It was startling to watch his regression into a shell of himself in those matches.

Agreed he's top quality, that said it shouldn't be a case of having Cazorla or the midfield being an absolute shambles. Especially with his injury record from the last few seasons.

Who the feck are you George Feeny?

Jog on.

This.

He was up against Carrick and Rooney in the centre of midfield and still didn't stand out.

Thought he would suit Arsenal perfectly to be fair, but has so far let them down with his Red cards more often then not, still has time on his side, was very good at his last club, dont think he should really be giving the goal tho, if Herrera dont turn his back like a coward it hits him in the chest, saying that he would prob still be rolling about yet if that happened.
