Graham Potter | turns down Ajax job

What's not true exactly? He's come in and transitioned really quickly. Who said he record was like-for-like?

You said they don't miss him, but their results are worse since Potter left. So, it is not true that they don't miss him since they were doing better with him.

It's starting to feel like a hell of a lot of excuses for him at this point.

Not really? If you come into a club that isn't doing well, spending loads of money on crap and has loads of injuries it's not really an excuse but a valid assessment of where the club is at. Yes, he should be doing better but there are reasons for it not clicking and it taking more time than expected for it to.

How much worse are they? What's the PPG etc, and what's the sample size?

They clearly don't 'miss' him, no. They're doing well without him.

Still looks like excuses...

I don't think he's a gem whatsoever, but opinions eh.

Fundamentals… he can school almost any manager out there and for profiles like this, there is always a place in the game… some time goes well, some time goes sh*t.

Either Boehly accepts a lower-half finish in the hope things are better next season, or he's sacked. They need to decide soon.

As I said, opinions eh... I've seen nothing to date to suggest he'll be a top class manager, but some certainly have.

He may well prove me wrong at Chelsea, or another big club...

 You've literally just described what an excuse is and gave him excuses.

If there was no evidence that he can get clubs to perform well I would agree with you but he's been at 3 clubs beforehand and managed to do so. I don't remember him having a crisis like this at any of those either.

Firstly, £250m spend means nothing when you buy complete crap.

They were in a mess and hadn't played well for about 7 months. They got away with it last season because Manutd were dreadful, and Arsenal and Tottenham both had terrible starts to the season. It escaped people's notice, but Chelsea were only positioned 7th in the form table from January onwards. They were very lucky and the signs of their impending collapse were there to see.
But a few things happened in Chelsea world during that period. I can sit here and quote their first half of the season when they were in Arsenals position as well? They went to Madrid and should have knocked them out of the CL if it wasn’t for a defenders slip that let Benzema in. They dominated Real in Madrids
Are they crap or can Potter not get a tune out of them? This forum wanted to sack every United player under Rangnick last season until we got an actual manager in. Chelsea just need a proper manager.
Id give Potter the benefit of the doubt if they were actually trying to play football. What are they trying to do on the pitch here? They’re not trying something new and failing. They’re just being sent out like shit.

Potter has been unlucky with injuries, but in the same breath that Chelsea squad is massive. I think the only player injured that actually makes them a much better outfit is James. Actually Chilwell too is miles ahead of Cucurella. The rest of their team is just like-for-like decent.

Cucurella and Koulibaly look quite bad signings too. The squad is crying out for a striker, but they just keep signing false 9's, wing backs and CB's.

Nah, he's been crap. There are no signs Chelsea will improve.

Not only did they appoint potter and all his staff from Brighton but they went with Brightons director of football etc as well they’re fully committed to this failure of a project

He done ok at Swansea, nothing amazing. At Brighton, he done well, that's about it. That, to me, isn't evidence he has anything in him to get a big club firing.

I'm ignoring his time in Sweden as, it was amazing, sure, but not really relevant.

No one put a gun to his head? He had a great thing going on at Brighton, but he left them mid season to chase the glory, and the money.

that’s bollocks. he did it for the mayfair bitches. look at his glow up.

That squad relies massively on fullbacks for width and creativity, and they have not had Chilwell or James for the majority. If Potter gets time, I think he will succeed, but I hope they fire him quickly and continue to be the dumpster fire that they are.

The excuses are unreal right now. Do you remember Moyes getting this many?

I'm 100% confident that let's say, De Zerbi came into Chelsea instead of Potter, and got the exact same results, no one would be defending him. Its only because it's Potter that he's getting such leeway.

I rate Potter - and there is always a place for patience to let the manager leave a mark. They may just sack off the season, and hope that things will grow for him for next season with no European football.

With that being said, it just doesn't look as if he has the dressing room at all. They look disjointed, granted the injuries will do that.

I don't see him lasting as he hasn't shown any significant positions to portray that things will get better.

 You've literally just described what an excuse is and gave him excuses.

What I mean by that is that the excuses are justified and valid in terms of where Chelsea are at as a club. They absolutely do have a horrible injury crisis, they absolutely have spent money poorly and they absolutely were doing poorly before Potter came in. That's all true. If Potter didn't have a record at three previous clubs of performing well then I would agree that they are just excuses to justify his poor record and he isn't good enough, while in contrast I think it's reasons ('excuses') that they are in a poor place as a club and it will take longer than expected for Potter to get the squad and club to where is needed.

Another pick from Caf hipsters biting the dust soon

It's hilarious at this point

They have not been good under Potter, but tonight is the worst I have seen them play. Absolutely dreadful.

We should’ve beaten them at Stamford Bridge, grrr. Potter was actually pretty strategically astute that game too (sent Kovacic on in 1st half and changed the shape of the team).

No, now that I think about it the man is going to walk away with tens of millions in his bank account for a few months at Chelsea.
