Graham Potter | turns down Ajax job

Awful manager, absolutely has no tactical awareness. Todd Boehly giving him a 5 year contract deserves a Darwin Award. Clueless owner with a clueless manager.
His Mainstay midfielder is RLC who couldnt get minutes at Fulham.
Boehly got sold snake-oil in flavor of the month manager Potter. Incompetent owner.

Arteta's Arsenal looked hopeless for 2 years to be fair. Potter has only been there a month.

Obviously his methods will take time. But he really shouldn't be fecking around with the likes of RLC.

They were better under Tuchel this season then they have under him in every game. Something clearly not working and I'm not sure he'll get time to put his stamp on the team

They are really really poor so far under him
Yep it's good to have caf police to judge after three games. Arteta looked awful for example and Potter is a better manager. The team he inherited is also painfully average despite the money spent on players. Tuchel got the results but this season it was really down to luck. He could have easily lost 5,6 points this season and be already at 7th position..

That being said I hope Potter convince the board to support him for at least another season and backhim in the transfer window, will be great to see Chelsea spend some insane money for just okay players like Rice or Trossard.

Hopefully Caiceido will wanna play in the Champions league team. However quite doubt we would be after a profile like him withETH in charge

Hopefully he gets a chance. This is always the danger when you inherit someone else's team though and you can't do anything to change it.

Wtf the were the owners doing letting Chelsea spend all that money and then changing the manager just weeks later. Potter set up to fail I think, if they keep him till next summer maybe he can put his stamp on the team but I’d be surprised if lasts that long.

You get time at Brighton, Chelsea just spent a tonne of money, what does he need to change? Spend another billion?

He at least needs a window. Just look how important ten Hag's signings have been for him.

It's not even some*one* else's team. It's a weird mix of Sarri's, Lampard's and Tuchel's teams.

He'll get time. Just has to stop chopping and changing and play the players in form.

Don't think Potter will be given the time he needs at Chelsea. It's also entirely possible that the players will stop responding to him and no manager survives that. You wouldn't put money on him being here in May.

Another overrated British manager.

File Potter alongside Moyes, Gerrard, Southgate and Lampard.

Unbelievable to think they binned off Tuchel for this mug.

edit - I think he’s losing the dressing room already (if he ever had it to begin with…?)

He's got the same issue Tuchel had. That front line is toothless

Tuchel worked miracles around it by getting insane productivity from his full backs, but after losing James he doesn't even have that to fall back on

Couldn't understand the posts on here saying he was a great appointment right now. Definition of bringing a small fish into a big pond full of predators. Especially during the season it was a massive risk.

So when does his premier league experience kick in? Apparently it's important on here when buying a player or signing a manager into the PL
Potter has a lot of PL experience, so it shouldn't take him that long.

They were beaten by a team managed by a man who was written off, mocked and ridiculed on here for a long time. Obviously a few matches isn't enough time to judge managers

It's not so much that people are writing him off, more so that he's been thrown into a situation which probably won't end well. Chelsea waiting until the summer to make a decision would have been a lot smarter and gives Potter time to settle. He looks totally lost with this squad.

I’m ready to call time on some of these players. Trash team. Trash performance. Sickening to watch Arsenal stroll about at the Bridge and play is off the park.

Who are they supposed to play, though? Kovacic has been playing through a knee injury. Kante is injured. Gallagher is not a CM. You have to play someone. Unless you think he should go with 1 man in midfield?

They were? Leeds cut them apart. So did Southampton. They had loads of pointless possession, creating nothing and leaving themselves open to be shredded. It was very reminiscent of us under Van Gaal, in fact.

I don't believe their squad is top-four quality. They were fortunate last season that their competitors were so bad because their form has been poor for quite a long time. If they continued their form since the end of 2021, they were always going to struggle to compete for top four.

I think people underestimate just how bad their team actually is.

To be fair that’s on Chelsea as well when they spend a record amount on transfers in one window

A lot of his success in Sweden, and then at Brighton seems to have been based on his psychology and culture building within the squad. He had them doing some very interesting activities behind the scenes to build confidence and rapport and that seems to be have been key to his teams playing above themselves (particularly in Sweden)

Obviously that sort of approach could take time and a more settled squad of his own players at Chelsea, but it’s far more likely that highly paid and pampered players at this level won’t have time for kareoke and will be complaining about a manager with no reputation making them do things they don’t want to do.

I can see it going sour very quickly even though he has some interesting ideas.

Have the same problem United had/has. Needs to be ruthless, this is the same team who threw Tuchel under the bus less after a year he got 99% of those players to the achievement that is probably the biggest they will ever achieve. And if you look that game against Dinamo Zagreb away they were happy to throw it away. They questioned his divorce also? I mean, feck off.

His preferred formation at Brighton was pretty similar to Tuchel's setup with Chelsea though, with the 3 at the back and attacking wing-backs - it's not as if he'd have come in needing to put any square pegs in round holes to suit how he wants to play.

Yet they're playing worse now than they were under Tuchel earlier in the season, and maybe even worse than how he had Brighton playing.

I hope they keep him there long enough for them to miss out on CL (and in turn Nkunku).

Well yes and the sanctions really fecked us over. We had to literally plug holes, so while we spent a great deal in the summer, a lot of it was simply unavoidable. We bought in the best we could under the circumstances.

Hopefully Todd gives Potter the time and money. We have a really good opportunity to reshape the entire club over the next couple of years if they remain patient.

Last season up to January yeah. Under Tuchel this season they lost 3-0 at Leeds, were completely outplayed at Southampton and were very lucky to beat West Ham with that bad VAR call.

Issue for Potter though is he looks out of his depth in the big games and that's ultimately what Chelsea judge their managers on so he needs a statement win in the league pretty soon after the World cup to settle things down.

No idea on how long he'll be given as I'm still basing Chelsea on the Abramovich model which was to always sack the manager whenever they were in serious danger of not qualifying for CL.

Our record against Arsenal has been trash for years. Our only win against since 2019 was Lukaku’s debut - literally 1 win and 5 losses in the last 3 years.

They’ve got us in a chokehold and are refusing to let go.

Cheeky third spell for Mourinho?
