Graeme Sourness | Retires from “punditry”

Souness can be scathing about Liverpool players. He isn't an 'ABU' like some paranoid folk would likes us to believe.

Souness says it how it is. I like him as a pundit, plus he hates Jamie Redknapp so that's a bonus.

Exactly my thoughts, he's a nice bloke too to speak to about football

He's usually a knob, but can't really see much wrong with his comments really. He's absolutely correct to suggest we should be expecting a much better goals return for a player of his quality.

We should be expecting 7-8/10 performances in the majority of games, and our inspiration in the bigger games; but too often he's trying tricks and flicks in areas of the pitch he has no right being in and is defensively naive. Still blows too hot and cold for me.

What has he got against Pogba? Every 2 or 3 weeks he has something negative to say. Pogba shouldn't be judged on the number of goals he scores. He isn't a striker. He is a midfield player who is required to keep a certain shape in the team. Look at the best midfielders in the world. Kroos, Iniesta, Modric etc. None of them score even 10 goals a season yet people have this obsession with Pogba saying he doesn't score enough. What about these midfielders then? It's absolutely ridiculous to expect 20+ goals from Pogba. He isn't that player.

Cold today.

Seems to have an agenda against Pogba, but a lot of what he said he was right with unfortunately.

Did anyone catch what he said during the analysis? He said so long as Salah and Kane don't get injured both Spurs and the scouse finish in the top four and then it's between us and Chelsea!!! His delusion has risen to a whole new level, I know there's ten games to go but he does realise we're in second place right now.

The guy is a complete joke, at half time he was banging on about Chelsea being "Fabulous". They were good and the better team but they certainly weren't "Fabulous". When Pogba went down in the build up to their goal, he couldn't wait to have a pop at him, he clearly has an agenda against him, it's pathetic.

He’s had the same narrative all season. Pogba is rubbish but he likes Lukaku. Apparently he doesn’t get any service, although it could just be another swipe at Pogba.

I reckon they pull names out of a hat at the beginning of the season and then praise or slate that said player for the entire season.

Yeah his narrative is that scrappy United overcame superior Chelsea. He hates our club, we should be used to that by now.

At least Carragher tries (and often succeeds) to be objective.

And yet if we beat Liverpool we will be at least 5 points clear of them, and potentially 9 clear of Chelsea.

I do like listening to him as he does provide a no-nonsense analysis which I do like, but he really does have an agenda against against United I feel.

Why is it that every time he produces a valid criticism of Pogba everyone seem to think he is "having a pop" or has an agenda?

I love that type of personality. If he was in the same dressing room as Pogba, he would be saying, you may have won things in Italy, but you've done feck all here, so work your socks off. I love that kind of mentality. Sadly there's not too many of those personalities about these days.

He does have an agenda against United though. For sure. He always has.

Fans in believing media is against their team, shocker. Pretty much every team's fans are guilty of it, it's just a part of football i guess.
What I will say is even if don't agree with him and don't entirely understand how what he's perceived has led him to form a particular opinion. I can always see where he's coming from initially.
Of course like any of the pundits their opinions come from stereotypes to an extent, but he's one of the better ones.

I've defended him in the past but he's behaving like somebody has burned down his house.

Possession had nothing to do with the outcome of today's match. Liverpool lost the game and he's missed the point entirely.

Carragher made him look pretty stupid then. I’m not sure why he’s the pundit that’s on for every single match. You know exactly what he’s going to say before he opens his mouth.

They were all there today:

Dalglish
Rush
Fowler
Souness
Carragher
Even bloody Daglish’s daughter sky sports -

Carragher didn't though, pointed out that we let them have it in that 2nd half. Fair play to him for putting away the bitterness.

Souness can barely contain the bitterness. Even at half time, when we'd been outclassing his beloved Liverpool, he was yapping on about our so-called direct style. He looks so uncomfortable sat there in the Sky Sports studio, you'd think he had hemorrhoids.

"Everyone is obsessed with possession stats but there are other ways to win a game"

He just said that, after obsessively moaning for around 5 minutes about United's lack of possession.

Feck me this bitter fool is trying to claim Bailly marshalling the ball out against Milner is a penalty.

Trent Alexander Arnold did exactly the same Bailly did to Milner earlier in the game, absolutely no mention of it at all.

Bailly showing Milner out of the box was a 'stonewall' penalty according to him.

I've heard of scraping the barrel but this is just ridiculous. That wouldn't even be a free kick at the halfway touch line.
