Gonzalo Higuain | BBC: Joins Juventus

Gonna post this video seems there are a lot of people on here who seem to think Higuain's a goalhanger instead of a complete Center Forward & stupidly judge him off a handful of games for Argentina.

He's an incredible passer, his hold up play is the best in the world & he has the technique/intelligence to link up with other players. Not many attacks break down when Higuain's in possession. Where he shines the most is his finishing, like Van Nistelrooy he has the uncanny ability to score from the most acute angles, the most clinical striker in the World for me.

Because he scored a lot of goals on a Superteam in a poor League? Maybe a couple of years ago, Higuain is a better player now.

Rather Higuain. Superior all round game & finisher. Lewandowski scored a lot of tap ins on another Superteam, Higuain creates the majority of his goals.

I think you're only giving your opinion.

Stats would say Ibrahimovic is currently better than Higuain and Lewa up with him too.

No doubt he's a good player but nowhere near the 90m mark, I didn't watch every Napoli game last season but Ive seen enough of him over the years to have my opinion that he's not in the elite player list which surely 90m should be.

Considering Ciro Immobile, Edinson Cavani and Luca Toni all scored ~20-25 goals in recent years for worse sides, 36 goals isn't that amazing. Personally I think Higuain is a decent player but if United signed him for even half of what Juve paid I would be fuming. He's not that good.

He's scored 30 plus goals for three consecutive seasons IIRC, breaking the all time record last year. No player that's just "good" would be capable of that, he's evidently a level up from toni and certainly a couple levels up from immobile. There are hardly any other number 9s as proven as he is, and that justifies his price. He was even an established 20plus/season player in La Liga.

This is gonna be Italy's first truly big deal since the summer that broke Italy - 2001, though doubt it'll have similar addon effects as I doubt Napoli spend big on another Italian based player. I mean maybe I'm missing someone, but listing the most expensive transfers in chronological order suggests nothing over £32m has been spent on a single player by an Italian team since 2001.

Remember when:

5k-10k per week was for decent promise youth level/young players.

30k-40k per week was for good players.

60k-70k per week was top players.

80k-100k per week was for the absolute elite players.

That was literally only like 5-10 years ago.

Now:

35k - 45k per week is standard for youth showing decent promise.

60k-70k per week is now standard for good players.

120k-150k per week is now standard for top players.

200k-300k per week is now standard for the absolute elite players.

What the feck.....

Same can go for transfers...

32m used to be the amount you would pay for the very best.

Now 32m will get you a youth player with decent promise if you are lucky.

Hmm...

He's certainly not in the top bracket of strikers, Suarez, Lewandowski, Aubameyang, a fit Aguero, who can create chances and win games on their own. He fits more into the target man number 9, with Benzema arguably at the top alongside Kane, and then Higuain and a whole bunch of others until you reach the donkey that is Giroud. They will all score a decent number of goals if the team is working hard to provide for them, but they're never going to terrify a full back.

We will be playing 3-5-2 and sometimes 4-3-1-2, so he will play the classic 9. Higuain won't need to trouble a fullback or be very creative. He will have Pjanic behind him, Dybala next to him and two Brazilian fullbacks on the wings who will feed him.

This fee is ridiculous and smacks of desperation. There'll be no resale value either.

I agree that the fee is ridiculous, but it is not desperate at all. Even without Pogba and Higuain we would be favourites by far to win the league, and we would still be among the best 5 clubs in the Champions League - with 120m€ to spare. It's just hard to improve our team and I guess our Management decided to spend over the top to just that.

Your desperation is not to win the league but to win the Champions League. And if you're looking at areas to improve your team, defense would be the place. Starting 4 is over 30 except Bonucci who anyways turns 30 this year.

He's a great finisher and would complement with Dybala well, but I'm not sure this is a necessary signing. Juve would be favorites for the title without him, and his record in big cup matches means he won't help them in the CL. The fee is insane but you can probably expect a Chinese club to cough up the money in a year or two if Juve decide to sell.

That's not good to see. I mean, are Napoli and Juve really rivals? Or are they pretending to be like Stoke or West Ham to us?

Was that Pogba at 2:30 ?

He does look world class in that video. Some of those turns are :drool:worthy.

Very apt comparison. Ruud is one of my favorite No. 9 of all time. If Higuain can do similar of what Ruud did, it will be worth the money,

If it was possible for Juve or anyone to get Lewandowski, it would have been him over pipita everytime.

Yep. I'd throw Benzema into the mix as better than Higuaín. He's strangely underrated though.

The 30 goals a season argument isn't very impressive. The previous two seasons he was a 1 in 2 goalscorer in pretty much all competitions. His record in the EL isn't really impressive considering the strength of his team and the number of games he played. His first two seasons in Italy he scored 17 and 18 goals in the league and was outperformed by a 38 year old Luca Toni who scored 20 or more both times.

Obviously his last season in the league was truely outstanding. But that's still just one competition in one season why nothing else in the past 3 years since his move to Italy suggests he's an elite striker. He still has a lot to prove.

Yeh. Agreed with this. Lewa and Suarez are two of the best strikers for me. I'd even take Aubameyang and Kane over Higuain.

I accept he hasn't netted many goals in Europe since his napoli move, but you can't dismiss his league form as not very impressive. If that were the case, scoring 30 goals consistently would be more common.

He was often in great form for real too IIRC. In this inflated market, where 40m bids for Deeney are rejected, I'm not raising as much of an eyebrow of 72m for Higuain.

Bonucci is 29, Benatia is 29, Rugani is 21, Alex Sandro is 25. We will add the rest over the next two to three summers. We cannot improve our defense. There are only very few players that are on the same or on a higher level. We certainly will need to rejuvenate it. But we are already working on it. For now it was almost impossible to increase the quality.

Are you serious?

It's Man United who should be looking to improve the defense at the moment .

Absolutely.
In today's World, I'd happily pay £100M (or more) for RvN.
Buying him, means buying goals, regardless of how good/bad the service is.
For me, Shearer and RvN are the EPL's best finishers I have ever seen. Henry had better, all-round technique and build up play, but for pure finishing, RvN and Shearer.

If Higuain is truly like RvN, then it's money well spent. The track record of Higuain (like Ibrahimovic) is absolutely outstanding.
One other thing I noticed about him is that normally the strikers in Italy tend to be thin (light weight). This guy looks very strong. Similar physique to Shearer. It doesn't surprise me that Arsenal were interested in him.
Luckily for us, Arsenal FC always seem to be one attacking player short of competing for the title.

Only Suarez is a better striker than Higuain. He's worth that amount of money. He's been the best finisher in the World for years but his all-round game has come leaps & bounds since the move to Napoli. His finishing is absurd. He has every type of finish in his locker imaginable which is why he netted so many goals this past season, scores from so many acute angles.

When I read this, I'm thinking why did we not go in for him. We should've went for him instead of Ibra.
I am not quite understanding why people are laughing that he will become the most expensive player in the World. I think it's justified.
He is one of the best strikers on the planet (proven in Series A), so if he moves clubs, the fee will very likely be a World Record.

I can also see that despite the amount of money Napoli are getting, their fans are not happy. Their fans probably feel that they should get more for him, so they can buy an equivalent replacement.

You've completely contradicted yourself, saying he guarantees goals no matter how bad the service, and then describe him as a great finisher who's all round game wasn't as good as Henry's.

He and RVN both require teams to dedicate themselves to supplying him with chances, he's not a match winner in and of himself in the same bracket as Aguero and Suarez.

It was a one man team league before, what's it going to be like now?!

I do feel for the likes of Milan, Inter etc. A once great league, best in the world, is now no different to Ligue 1.

Serie A has been shite for over 10 years now. It's nothing new.

I don't disagree. But at least you had Inter contesting it before as well.

Now it's no more interesting than the SPL.
