Golf 2023

Oh wow those steals by Hovland, Rahm and Rose must feel like huge blows to the US. Europe with all the momentum to go along with a big lead going into tomorrow.

Those last few holes in the top 3 games of the afternoon were just incredible! Amazing turn around and the lead looks unassailable unless the tide turns fully tomorrow

Well well well.. wasn’t expecting that. Incredible day for Europe. The US clearly missing Johnson, Reed and DeChambeau if you ask me.

Yeah when you see how poor Sam Burns was and how bad Wyndham Clark choked at the end there, you have any 3 of those guys In the fairway where Clark was for his second shot on 18, USA wins the match.

Brilliant day of golf for Europe! but ryder cup is already over which is a bit of a shame. would have preferred a bit more competition!
Yeah, obviously I'd prefer Europe to win but I'd rather it be close and them lose then it be another one-sided home win given there hasn't been a close Ryder Cup since 2012. I guess there's still 2 days to go but those putts made on the 18th have put them in such a strong position already.

Best opening day from Europe I have ever seen, and seems statistically that is true too.

I never expected us to be so dominant against this US team. They should true determination. It's really ours to lose now.

Absolute Minimum expectation of getting to 10 tomorrow, and that's being extremely pessimistic.

Amazing day of golf. Watched it from 2am EST. Im knackered!

Hovland and Rahm stepped up so many times.

USA look rusty after weeks off post the end of the PGA tour. Whereas Europe have been playing DP World tour events over the past few weeks. Huge mistake.

I think more than the lack of selection of a couple of players is the fact that most of the American team haven't played competitive golf for over a month

I don’t think selection of either 3 was an option for any captain considering the LIV situation and their current world ranking points, that would not have been good for team moral (especially considering 2 of them aren’t particularly popular amongst their fellow pro’s anyhow).

Patrick Reed

Bryson had been playing well in LIV, but the standard is so poor its hard to gauge. Plus, his driving accuracy is like 50%, which would have been troublesome on this course. He would never have played in foursomes because of this, as he didn't in 2021, so you're picking a player you cant use in 2 sessions.

I dont think ZJ was restricted to only PGA tour players. Brooks was picked.

But i agree, Bryson and Reed are hated by most, and that was before they bounced to LIV.

Bryson stats wise is one of the best drivers in the world. You take that.

Watched this video earlier, Rick Shiels doing a round at the Ryder Cup course. Looks incredibly unforgiving. Really good insight into what these guys are facing.

Interestingly they’ve got the course designer out with them but sadly don’t include him much in the video, would’ve loved to known the thinking behind the hole designs.

A lot of the rough has been cut back so it’s not exactly the same as it was in that and a few other videos.

Ah right. Still looks a tough course.

I’d be fecked.
It is and it isn’t. It’s set up to make birdies with a lot of drivable par 4s. The scoring on the European side was very good today.

cant watch him anymore, he’s awful

I’ve only watched some of his stuff as recently just getting back into golf after a 16yr hiatus.

It was said he’s a scratch golfer but regularly shoots way over par. Also talks quite a bit of what he plans to do and it just doesn’t come off. Doesn’t strike me as anywhere near scratch. Just an observation.

I enjoyed this video though to see what the course is actually like. The greens look pornographic.

not sure that rings true. the us team had a lot of dp today.

Watch Peter Finch myself, apparently they fell out because Finch was trying to qualify for the open and Shiels gave him shit about it on his podcast.

Peter Finch is as fake as that mark crossfield. His early videos he is very elitist and like anyone who isn't a single digit handicap shouldn't be on a course.

He seems Rick's formula of being a happy golfer and having fun and tried to copy it. You can tell it's forced.

They've all got some decent tips though depending which videos you watch. Shiels is just an easy watch, I actually prefer Guy in ricks videos, find him hilarious.

Brooks is one of the good guys, he’s just very straight talking like Rahm actually. Brooks was right to call Rahm’s behavior out, that wasn’t acceptable on a golf course.
What was Rahm doing? Just pouting?

Nah that was bollocks.

They still regularly do videos together and I’m pretty certain that Rick owns part of Finche’s channel.

Also it was actually Guy Charnock that had a go at Pete not Rick but it’s Rick’s show so essentially anything that comes out is from him.

What was Rahm doing? Just pouting?

He’s being accused by Koepka of losing his temper too often in the afternoon session and hitting a board in temper. Rahm’s another good guy who generally means well, but his temper & self control isn’t great on occasions. Sort of like a golfing Wayne Rooney.

I can assure you, if Brookes calls you out for anything, you probably did feck all wrong. It’s just his way of deflecting from being a bit shit.

See his ridiculous attack on Cantlay earlier this year.
Was justified Cantlay's pace of play is awful.
