Golf 2023

US pairings were very poor, given all the time to prepare it’s a disgrace. Scottie and Burns are 0-3 in foursomes and Rickie has been ill all week so why play him? Insane.
Given foursomes is Europe's strong suit, being the first session and being played in Europe you'd think they would prioritize strength in the morning.

What the feck happened at the last? I left thinking I’d miss one hole when USA got a shot back and it’s over

Btw how does this work with golf balls? Do they just play one ball all week?
In fourballs just their own ball.

In foursomes, they can alternate balls based on who’s hitting into the green, but has to be the same ball for the hole. Typically on a par 4 for example, Rory would hit Tommy’s ball off the tee so Tommy gets to hit the iron into the green. That’s because he’s comfortable with ball and how it reacts on the green etc.

First time Europe have led after session one since 2006, mad stat.

Brilliant start but need to hammer it home this afternoon.

Was a great shot out of that fairway bunker by Hatton to set up that birdie

Potentially stupid question - on the TV coverage, why is shot tracer only used for tee shots? Is it just too logistically hard to get it operational for every shot (obviously not needed for putts/chips on).

You will find at some tournaments you get more of this all over the course. For me its always been a weakness of golf televising, for decades it was "watch swing, ball in sky, ball lands" and that's why coverage focussed so much on chipping and putting, the latter of which is the dullest part of golf. I feel like mobile shot tracers so that almost every shot you can see the ball flight, it can be tracked real time on a mini map etc. is critical to grow the televised game.

Every match in the second session is on the course and I don't think the USA has been up in any match. Wonder what the modern record for that is, for either side.

I don’t like the mixing around with colours. Why do the yanks always go to blue, just stick to your red ffs.

Hovi is the best golfer in the world right now, and he will be world no1 sometime in 2024. Absolutely incredible.

Justin Rose is so good.

he is what tiger should be for USA at that age. Just solid safe hands.
Tiger's was always a very poor Ryder Cup player even during his prime: 13 wins and 21 losses and 3 halves. Only 14.5 points across his entire career is absolutely appalling.

That drive that JT just hit was absolutely ridiculous. No idea how somebody of his size is smashing a ball 367 yards.

the lesson here is Americans aren’t as good as the actual team stuff. Losing 4-0 on alternate shot but doing mostly well in four ball

Disagree, it’s more that the teams were horribly composed by a clueless captain. They are horrible in foursomes in Europe but I think a lot of it is bad team composition historically. They can’t get it right.

there will be people slimmer and smaller who can hit it further. All mechanics
I know I know, but if you're bigger and have the same mechanics, generally speaking you'll hit it further. How he outdrives so many of the other guys on tour with such good mechanics is crazy.

his club head speed is one of the fastest I think.
