I'm very much a casual viewer, and only really watch the final day of a major, my dad is a golfer and ardent watcher!
-why the stigma over Koepka? Apparently he's joined a Saudi league? It sounds a bit like the super League in football, but as it's an individual sport and presuming it's not giving him any advantage, why shouldn't he be competing in this? LIV is a glorified hit & giggle for obscene sums of money. In order to get into a major, a player has to do well on an official tour which gives them points. LIV doesn't award world golf points to their players, but Koepka can play off of past victories. A bit confusing, but no one from the sham tour should be able to accrue points towards qualifying for majors
-i really want the amateur guy to win, but apparently he can't take any prize money due to being an amateur? You'd be gutted! Can he even get the green jacket or trophy? He will receive the trophy with his name etched on it, he will receive a green jacket (that doesn't leave the premises; they wear alternate jackets off site. He will not (I don't think) receive any purse nor will it be held in escrow for him. The winning amount just goes back into the pool of money for the professionals. It sounds a bit draconian but look at it another way - he's going to turn pro in a few months & will have apparel & equipment sponsorships waiting for him that would be more than what Tiger got when he turned pro. It would reset the market. He already has some sponsorships now (which I didn't think was allowed). He actually declined to turn pro a few months ago as he wanted to compete in his first Masters as an amateur (Augusta National has quite the backstory & history of amateurism & the Masters).
-im surprised after Tigers accident he hasn't been given special permission to use a buggy? Not going to happen nor should it be allowed anymore imo. There was the Casey Martin saga 20 or so years ago (it's worth googling) that actually got into the court system over if he could use a cart & it was a lightning rod issue. The advantage gained by using a cart is simply too great. There is currently a carve out for individual exemptions on a case by case basis, but no tour professional would ever want to utilize such an advantage, no matter how much it would be helpful.
Sounds like the weather could be wild which will make it more interesting for the casual viewer, but hopefully it doesn't hinder Bennett, who presumably has less experience than the pros? He comes from Texas near Houston so playing in wind will be second nature to him. However, the pros have played in conditions like these far more often than Bennett & will have a mental advantage to him. That said, I hope he can stay in contention today as he's already shown that he can handle the course well in 'normal' conditions.
