Glastonbury 2017

Says the man who thinks Radiohead only have two good albums. Are you only a "miserable tosser" if you criticise Ed Sheeran?

Well in fairness you're definitely a miserable tosser if you like any of Radiohead's albums, it's a pre-requisite.

I'm a sucker for the whole loop pedal thing, mind you. Jack Garratt does it better but hey, it's a great way for one bloke to make a big sound. Fair play to him for sticking to his guns and not taking the easy way out by hiring a bunch of random musos to half-heartedly flesh out his songs.

Constantly worrying about the timing of his one million loop pedals seems like more hastle than its worth. Just get a band in innit?

Glastonbury crowd has changed massively though. middle class teenage girls who lap up Ed Sheer-an types taking over. Won't be long befor the 2/3 main acts are mainstream commercial pop singers.

Totally, it's too big now, inevitable really. I blame the Beeb.

A friend a used to car share with subjected me to a Radiohead album once. By the end i thought death was actually a pretty decent idea.

What's the craic with his guitar? It's 3/4 sized. Never noticed that before. Wah gwan?

On a side note, never heard the Galway Girl song before. Jesus fecking Christ it's bad.

How do you mean Pogue? They're a popular size of guitar to be honest, easy and light to play.

Why is everyone hating on a Lad with his acoustic guitar and pedal and who's not using shitty auto tune or doesn't have the protection of a band behind him. I'm not even a fan of his music but you have to give major props to the lad

Well put. Exactly my viewpoint.

I had you down as a fan TBH.

I was just trying to wind people up. I'm not his biggest fan but "Thinking Out Loud" is a tune and fair play to him he's done well for himself.

I think he's a good writer too. The Bieber song he wrote is awesome.

I'm with you fella.

Very easy to pshaw' his everyman simple style but he's busking seriously catchy tunes to Glasto's biggest crowd entirely off his own bat.

There's a lot of music I'd rather hear, but I bet his gig would be brilliant.

His gigs were great when they were 500-1500. He can't carry a large crowd.

Qualifier : Yes I realise this is a huge gig. Yes I realise he did 3 nights at Wembley.

My point is that they were shit.

I saw him in front of maybe 500 people with one third the back catalogue and it was genuinely raucous and fun.

Is anyone actually listening to this nonsense that's coming out of his mouth?

This forum is depressing. Why is everyone hating on a Lad with his acoustic guitar and pedal and who's not using shitty auto tune or doesn't have the protection of a band behind him. Whats auto tune?

Personally, I love it when solo artists get backed up by a big band for these sort of gigs. I don't think it's "the easy way out" because there's so much work that goes into the composition.

How can you say that? I'm sorry but you can't see a band like Radiohead pulling out every trick in the book. Mastering the art of using instruments to create music then watch this guy come out to play one string on his wooden guitar. Sheerans work requires little to no effort.

Thinking out Loud is a really good song. Shape of you and the one he did with Pharrell are really good pop tracks too.

Yeah, though I still think he makes it work better than almost everyone thought it would.

But 9/10 gigs are much much much better the less people that are there, it's not just specific to his particular one man schtick.

Take your point though.

Really?! Honestly never noticed any adult play one before. My kid has one. Every time I pick it up I feel like a giant.

I've a full-sized one and when practicing it can be an absolute ballache after a while. I switch to the smaller parlour sometimes for comfort. Definitely good for the youngsters as well. I've to say though I wouldn't headline Glastonbury with anything like one!

Totslly agree, there's just something about a full band that one man and his guitar will find almost impossible to deliver.

Additionally I wouldn't headline Glastonbury because I'm fecking shite, but that's another story.

Serious devaluing of what he's doing there.

Also music doesn't have to be complicated to be good, that's a totally daft point of view. Otherwise we'd all just listen to Tommy Emmanuel or Satriani. It's such a snobbish approach.

It's fair enough to not like it and think it's simple, but very little need to shit on everyone else's parade.

Woo I hate Ed Sheeran woo REAL MUSIC look at me <3 Radiohead guitars drums woo

This is the kind of shit you see some sad bloke doing at an open mic night, and everyone just says 'no, stop it, you bellend', before he quickly gets booed off stage. But somehow he's become one of the biggest acts on the planet. It's a mystery to me.

It was 20 years ago I went to Glastonbury! Its hard work, and these days would take me a good week to recover!

The last time I went I got home on the Monday night at around 11pm and then did a 70+ hour week in the kitchen. When I finally finished my shift on the Sunday my head chef said "Well done getting through this week Chef, I'm surprised you didn't take Tim up on his offer to cover for you".

Tim didn't tell me he would cover for me. I laughed and then broke down in actual tears.

He can't do his fecking high notes either. None of these people can sodding sing!

That's it. I'm gonna chuck in slagging off musicians on football forums and become a rockstar.

The Foo's were a million times better though and they've been on the wind down for about 15 years.

The simplicity of his music is not the issue. Simple is often good. It is the shitness of his mild relationship crisis in Pret a Manger polyfilla music that is the issue. It's not his fault that children have propelled him to stardom however.
