Glastonbury 2017

Kt tunstall did it well also.

I remember a performance on Jools Hollands where she used it which was really good.

The whole acoustic singalong thing is nice but a whole set would be a bit dull wouldn't it. You want all the frills of a big live band at this scale.

First Brexit, then Trump, now this shite headlining the world's biggest festival. Truly we live in an era of idiots.

Edit: that's right, I'm comparing him to Trump and Brexit, whatcha-gon-do?

I'm struggling rather with the lack of self-awareness, too.

I've not actually listened to any Ed properly since his first album, but I'm aware that he's still hung up on not going to uni, and is now struggling to balance the busker persona and the calculated, commerical superstar reality of his act.

This is the kind of shit you see some sad bloke doing at an open mic night, and everyone just says 'no, stop it, you bellend', before he quickly gets booed off stage. But somehow he's become one of the biggest acts on the planet. It's a mystery to me.
Everyone else is so stupid right?

How can you say that? I'm sorry but you can't see a band like Radiohead pulling out every trick in the book. Mastering the art of using instruments to create music then watch this guy come out to play one string on his wooden guitar. Sheerans work requires little to no effort.

I'm no Ed fan, and I'm not impressed by this performance, but this is nonsense.

Look at the size of that stage and crowd. He's owning it, he isn't exactly shit at what he does even if it's not to our tastes.

A friend of mine actually did an open mic with him once and the two of them got pissed together. Ed was broke and my mate paid for the beers all night. Said he was a lovely bloke. Same bloke also had Ellie Goulding support him at another, later gig. I'd say he's taking tonight pretty badly.

The Foo's were a million times better though and they've been on the wind down for about 15 years.
I agree the Foo's were better, but one bloke his small guitar, just him singing was never gong to out do any band , I think Chic were better this afternoon.
But he is holding the very large crowd , they are singing with him , is that not what it is about.

It's an odd one. Frank Turner fell trying to figure out similar things without reaching anywhere near Sheeran's popularity.

Before anyone e-jumps down my throat he's obviously talented. Just not my cup of tea.

I was defending tiny guitars to be fair, god bless them, not Ed. He's clearly popular, who knows why but I suspect it's not really my cup of tea anyway so my opinion doesn't count.

The simplicity of his music is not the issue. Simple is often good. It is the shitness of his mild relationship crisis in Pret a Manger polyfilla music that is the issue. It's not his fault that children have propelled him to stardom however.

I think if you did a focus group you would find a big crossover between his audience and people who like Love Actually and Michael McIntyre.

Don't you dare rope Love Actually into those other things I swear to god I will straight up ban you Mike.

I can confirm that my wife loves all three.

I thought the Foos were much better than this but he's doing what he does, which has made him the number one solo artist in the world, has the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand, he's doing great. My daughter is loving this.

He's a pop music icon, and if you don't agree your opinion on all music is invalid.

One day I'm going to be old and I really hope I'm not more of a bellend than I already am. Sadly it seems inevitable.

I'll appreciate a banger by flaky Ed while I can. Can't knock him, to be honest.

Best get @Fingeredmouse on the phone to tell her she's a wanker and shatter her innocence.

To be fair, and I'm questioning myself right now, but thinking out loud is a decent tune.

It really is, he did a really good job with that tune. Is he still playing acoustic for it though? It needs electric.

Pop and Rap, he's probably the greatest ever rapper, hands down.

THIS STATEMENT IN NO WAY REPRESENTS A FACT.

You and @Duafc do remind me of each other, at times.

You both don't half go hard on the sarcastic 'the other side are being so extreme it's ridiculous' posts.

She's not a wanker. Bet she's smashing. Her taste in music is shite though, unless she's an actual child. If she is, fair game. I don't criticise John Craven's Newsround for it's lack of hard hitting reportage, 'cos it's for kids. Adults using John Craven's Newsround as their primary source of news would not be wankers, but would have shite taste in news outlets.

You know, at the end of the day, he's a pop musician. So that's the bar he should be judged against. I can't stand Robbie Williams but reckon he'd do the occasion more justice.

Robbie Williams is fecking dreadful, but Angels is an absolute anthem and no one is ever going to tell me otherwise.

He dead bruh.

Ultimately, I can't help feeling Ed Sheeran is a musician for people who don't really like music.
