Glastonbury 2017

I used to have a major thing for the Chili Peppers, I basically taught myself guitar and bass by learning all their songs. They miss Frusciante I think though, I like some of the newer stuff but he was great to have for the live shows.

I've not seen them without him, but I can bet they would be missing something as he would be impossible to replace. They rocked Wembley last time I saw them, but that was nearly 10 years ago now. :nervous:

Probably about the same time as me actually, Earls Court probably 2006. I remember seeing a girl about my age hammered passed out against a wall legs spread flashing everyone. She's probably married with kids now. How time flies.

For sure, especially considering that as much as I love them Kiedis isn't exactly a particularly blessed singer  Flea is great though.

I always liked how Frusciante never felt the need to play a million notes in a solo or get more technical than was really needed. He's definitely my biggest influence on the electric guitar.

They'd smash Glastonbury I think. Almost tailor made for it!

He's just magic, I even like his solo stuff!

I saw them headline at Reading last year and they were very good. The new guitarist is decent but not a patch on Frusciante naturally.

On a side note, Lauren Laverne .

Yep I know who that was

Preference of Music though is something I really try not to critisiee other tastes because it can be so personal.

Status quo wouldn't really be my cup of tea either though

What's funny about it? Genuinely....

Quo aren't everyone's cup of tea. Same way certain artists aren't mine. But, what's funny about it? I've seen each line up live many times, including the original, and it was always great and I loved it....So why do you look down on it? I'm not a declaring my support for Huddersfield am I?! There's nowt funny about music man! Whatever takes your fancy, that's all that matters!
Maybe it's because I haven't been around in awhile and it's deemed acceptable to laugh at others when you think they don't notice...I don't know...Either way, liking a band or a genre of music is not a reason to laugh at someone tbf

More to the point, that wasn't Quo playing at Glastonbury....That was Francis Rossi's solo band. Rick has sadly died, Alan and John aren't there so it's not Quo. Bit confused why it came up tbh

You clearly didn't read the rest of my post.

I suppose the green smiley was due to the fact, it is unusual these days to come across a hardcore status quo fan.

But I couldn't give a fu.ck what you like. Knock yourself out...

I admitted in previous posts in this thread saying Coldplay and
ocs were among my favourite bands, I also said I liked muse, but I wasn't butt hurt when others disagreed.

I couldn't give a flying feck what music anyone likes or what others think. I'm not some sort of music God! The more music people like, the better! Trying to make me out as "butt hurt" is a bit much

I just find it patronising and snobbish of people who look down on me for liking Quo when they are one of the best bands and highest selling bands the UK ever produced. Most people haven't a clue about them. I also find it snobbish of anyone looking down on someone for liking any kind of music.

Music is there to be enjoyed, not to be dismissed. It's one of the few beautiful things we still have in life

Still not sure why Quo came up though. That wasn't Quo last night

Feck everyones pretentiousness. Foo's had the best Headline act performance so far this year.

Because people's opinion differs from yours does not make then pretentious! It is possible that people preferred other headline shows.

Just my opinion of course, but I don't think anyone touched Radiohead. That performance was perfection for me. I enjoyed the Foo's last night, but all of this ''we're going to be here a long time'' shit was getting tiresome. It almost seemed like Dave talked more then he actually played.

OMG! You're so Pretentious that you posted the same message twice!

Two posts aimed at me in this thread last night were pretentious tbf

The snobby element some people have to music/bands/singers/artists gets on my nerves.
I think it's because music is usually so central to people's identities. As much as we all like to think 'each to their own' and it doesn't matter what anyone else likes, if someone tells me their favourite band is Mumford and Sons or something, I am probably going to assume they have bad taste.

Maybe I'm different.
Various bands and artists aren't my cup of tea but, I'd never assume someone has bad taste or look down my nose at someone over it. It's not a crime to like a certain style or genre of music or to allow yourself to become emotionally attached to a piece of music.

"Oh I just can't get my head around the fact he likes X,Y and Z"
The people, in my experience, who say that have never even listened to the band or artist in question. So, therefore, they haven't a clue what they're talking about

Are you not the poster with a passionate hatred for all things Ed Sheeran?

Regarding the bold bit, of course not, we all have guilty pleasure music. But there are some people that don't recognise they like a band/artist in spite of them being a bit crap. Better to just acknowledge a band is obviously naff, but you like them for a personal reason anyway.

I like the occasional McDonald's chicken nugget, but there's no need for me to pretend it's some sort of nutritious meal or proper food.

1. "Guilty pleasure" music is non existent. Do you honestly feel guilty for listening to a certain song?
2. What do you mean? Admit you like a band but admit they're shite? How does that work? Who is anyone to say a band are shit?

It is what it is. I personally can't relate to his lyrics and it doesn't get my foot tapping but, he's a very good singer and writes some lovely chord progressions. A-Team is a song I think is top notch

He doesn't do it for me either. He has a few good tracks but some like that Galway Girl that to me, are laughably shite.

you go girl

It's just a phrase to mean liking something in spite of it being of relatively poor quality. For example, you can like a place for a sentimental reason, despite it being a bit of a shithole.

2. What do you mean? Admit you like a band but admit they're shite? How does that work? Who is anyone to say a band are shit?
How do we assess any kind of art? A mix of contemporary reviews from experts, the respect of their peers and previous greats in the field, popular sentiment (usually in hindsight so we can see if supposed quality survives changes in fashion), influence on future art, originality/ developing the medium etc.

I like to ask myself 'will people still be listening to this band in 50 years time?'

And for a lot of bands and artists, they are.

Anyways, the only way I judge something is shite is if the band is out of time, out of key, wrong notes etc.

A lot of people describe ABBA as a "guilty pleasure"
Those people haven't a clue
