German Football 21/22 | Gladbach sign Farke

I never expected him to come back, but stranger things have happened. Let's see if he'll give them the necessary bounce, but I somehow feel that nothing will change for them.

Oh yes, they will bounce as high as a medicine ball.

So what's the stair situation at Hertha @uamini ? Got to give Magath some serious high end stairs for this to work.

Doesn't their stadium have some quite big stairs? And isn't it famed to be the coldest place in the city? Sounds perfect for Magath for me.

I think their player's tunnel actually has an escalator. That's where it all went wrong for them.

Can't believe this is happening in 2022

We can't thank Hertha enough, first Windhorst, then Klinsmann and now this.

Well, theres something to cheer me up at least on this horrible day....

Secret agent Bobic fulfilling his duties for his old love Stuttgart.

Before today I would have said that Leipzig and Leverkusen both have a ~90% chance of making top four, but Wirtz' injury probably lowers those odds quite a bit for Leverkusen and we might see a bit of a race between them and Freiburg or Hoffenheim. Which would be especially awesome since the final pairings of the season are as follows: MD32: Hoffenheim:Freiburg MD33: Hoffenheim:Leverkusen MD 34: Leverkusen:Freiburg

It's gonna be really difficult to find a decent coach in that situation...it's not exactly the most attractive job at the moment.

The rumor mill is full of obvious candid

Well he has the Teufelsberg nearby...even if it's more of a hill than a true mountain it's been used by previous coaches to get the players in shape.

I'd rate the Magath appointment as slightly less embarassing than the Rehhagel one, even though its close. Not sure what's been worse, Bobic's transfers or his coaches.

Windhorst seems chatty today:

His orthography and use of punctuation is about at the level you'd expect from a man worth 320 million. Jesus fecking Christ.

The Wirtz injury is a tragedy. As is the Magath appointment for Berlin.

The tea is already brewing.

The mad thing (especially in hindsight) was to sack Dardai - who didn't do anything amazing, but kept collecting a couple of points here and there and who I actually trust to do a bit of team building - when they had no one better than Korkut as an alternative.

Now however the club looks completely fecked, they have the worst momentum in the whole of Europe, Stuttgart actually seem to have found their way again, so that adds to the pressure as well, they are broke () and if that wasn't enough some people seem to think that this is the moment to open up side shows about the management and/or Windhorst.
I don't see why anyone would take over this mess, if you get relegated it's not really your fault, but you still look like and idiot and if you succeed still no one will really care. Who could they realistically get? Hannes Wolf? David Wagner would probably already be a stretch. It's still insane to go for Magath, but I can see why they did it: they are at a desperate point and they decided to go all in on the mentality angle and hope that Magath's ruthless methods and is relegation battle experience will illicit a reaction that Korkut's nice guy approach couldn't. I guess Friedhelm Funkel would have been the sane variant of the same approach.

Hertha TV's servers can't handle the public showing interest in the club, is there a more fitting thing for the current situation?

Just seen the Magath news, are Hertha Berlin really that badly run?
Yes, indeed they are. They are going full HSV/Schalke. But since they only have a meager following nobody really gives a toss.
And looking at their squad: what the hell did they actually do with Windhorst‘s millions?

Let me put it this way: they were a random mid table club and after three years and a €375m cash injection they are now broke and about to be relegated.

While I fully agree I don't think he would have come out of retirement in this situation. There are still 8 games to go (possible 2 more including relegation playoffs) and he is not living bear to Berlin.

It was different last season for Köln, as he is living quite close and it was just 2+2 games.

And additionally in the meantime Union Berlin got into the first league and consistently plays better, now the third season in a row. Before that one could say "oh it would be so strange if the capital didn't have a club in the first league". No one ever cared for Hertha as a club, and now even that sentiment is gone as we will still have Union.

+++breaking+++ Magath: "I nevere really cared whether there was an upward or downward slope at my clubs or stairs, or whether a hill was built if it wasn't already there" +++

So basically it's the equivalent of winning the lottery jackpot and then hiring Bernie Madoff to look after your finances.

My wife and my family urged me to go to Berlin :lol:

Magath's assistant will be Mark Fotheringham (from Scotland). Magath: "He speaks perfect German. Only English could be diffficult"

I had totally forgotten how entertaining his pressers often were.

I just remembered: Magath is only the second coach in history (after Huub Stevens) to get to coach the holy trinity of Bundesliga football: Hertha, Hamburg and Schalke. Such a historic feat might have been a big motivation to take this job - aside from his family telling him to move to other end of the country.

Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The tasteful steepness of it. Oh my god, it's even missing handrails!

Fixed it ;)

Teufelsberg... could even have them climb up to the geodesic dome listening post and have a speech there

Frimpong out for the season as well. Sometimes I hate football.

I d pay 1000 pounds for an Amazon doc with Magath as our manager and our current squad. How many would consider retirement after 3 weeks?

That´s literally our season down the drain caused by one single game. Unbelievable. Feel sorry for Rolfes, he put together a great squad over the last 1-2 years but what can you with such bad luck?

It's really unfortunate not just for Leverkusen but for the whole of football. Two massive young prospects, hope they come back well and soon.

That was a very tense end to the Dortmund Mainz match, crucial goal by Witsel. Title race on now that Haaland is back?

I guess when it's down to 8 games there is always some chance to get lucky, however small. But realisitically: no. Dortmund aren't in good shape, there's a reason why all the talk is about a massive rebuild of squad, the direct duel being played in Munich doesn't help either.

On the other hand it's pretty hilarious that despite all the defensive issues the team has had this season it's actually a Passlack, Can, Pongracic and Schulz back four that kept two clean sheets in a row (for the first time this year). And somehow Leverkusen (Leipzig), who seem to have found a liking to talk about competing with Dortmund, are 11(12) points behind.

Yeah it's still unlikely, but I'm just hoping it remains close.

Dortmund won many scrappy games lately..... Mainz, Hoffenheim, Frankfurt and even Bielefeld wasn't take convincing.

They definitely can't blame it on bad luck, if they don't win the title.

Having to scrap your transfer budget, because your factories in Ukraine are shut down. Unlucky. Could have happened to anyone
