German elections on Sunday 23rd February 2025

Some protestors projected a giant image of Musk showing the Nazi salute on a Tesla fabric in Berlin, the police is now investigating against the protestors for showcasing the Nazi salute. Germany 2025 in a nutshell.
Because they have to. The investigations won’t result in any consequences, because that will be artistically freedom. But it’s only logical that they are investigating.

Feck, so there's a chance, was hoping I'd have nothing to worry about today.

I don't think the AfD has a realistic path in any government and if it has, then they have to make so many compromises that their agenda is completely watered down. For isntance, there is no chance Germany leaves the EU or abandons the Euro under the chancellor Merz. And there is also the German constitutional court which will prevent any attempts of migration politics that violate basic rights of refugees and especially German citizens with migration backgrounds.

But 4 years from now, who knows. The Union definitely consists of the biggest opportunists in German politics, they'd send their own grandma in a refugee camp in Libannon or Turkey if it would it hands them the keys to the German government.

Yeah, you are correct. It still frustrates me that we pursue such stuff and allow the AfD and co. to say the most ourageously racist stuff to the biggest audiences.

At what time do you expect a result?

Yeah, that makes me angry to. I’ve actually been on the receiving end of police investigations benefitting the AfD. It’s not nice.

That really sucks, hope it wasn't anything serious

No, I just destroyed some of their posters, so nothing serious. The investigation was later stopped for a small payment. I got lucky because the prosecutor was pretty cool. Had to donate to an organisation that organises visits to cinemas, theatres and museums for children of immigrants. So I think she was on my side.
But one of the three cops who stopped us back then was very obviously a hardcore AfD fan and extremely antagonistic towards us. His police report was full of lies, too.

How did that make it to a police investigation if you don't mind me asking? Especially if it was some years ago before everything went mental.

Because some old Nazi geezer apparently saw us and called the police. And they acted like we tried to blow up a building or something like that.

Yep. But since we knew our rights very well, we told them nothing and they had nothing against us, other than a single eyewitness who saw us in the dark. So I don’t think they ever had any chance of convicting us. But it was a bit of a hassle.

Love the bolded part

Don't let us down, Germany, or the rest of us are fecked. No pressure...

When did we ever let an opportunity pass to let the world down?
This is your opportunity to make up for past crimes like Kraftwerk.

Be fair, we look perfectly capable of doing that on our own.
Yeah but it would be nice to delay the extinction of democracy by at least a few more weeks of possible.

Kraftwerk are undoubtedly one of the few redeeming qualities Germany has. There’s no badmouthing them when I’m around.

I guess there's an assumption AfD are under-reported as some won't want to admit their intention?
Im assuming this will be the case this time. But it wasn’t really a thing in other elections before.

Since no one wants to cooperate with AfD we can safely assume that they wont run the country even if they somehow manage to get the most votes, right?

Are those specifically platforming far right ideas to everyone on the platform? If not then I feel like you can't ban it, the algorithm sucks but the right is simply gaming it properly.

Twitter is being used as a weapon vs the west
I think all the platforms have people promoting far right & far left ideas.

You also have buck edjiits trying to convince us of lizard people and the world is flat.

Once social media moved beyond forums, the worlds Outlook has went to hell in a hand basket where people are more confused now than ever they where.

Yes, that is safe to assume. Also they won’t get the most votes.

The country isn't ready for that, at least not yet. Merz voting alongside the AfD on a symbolic law that never had any realistic hope of making it already sparked the biggest protests in Germany's history. It doesn't get much coverage (wonder why) but there have literally been millions on the streets since Merz' infamously broke his promise in late Januar, 1.4 million protestants on the weekend of said vote alone. Merz political career is over if he builds a government with the AfD, there would be civil unrest if he did and he'd lose the support of the majority of his own party immediately. The AfD might have 20% and the Union 30% but the rest of the country is extremely opposed to right-wing populism. 'Never again' has been ingrained into our heads since early childhood. Almost every student in Germany has visited a KZ at one point in his life and everybody had to study the history of Hitler and the NSDAP multiple times in school. So far, that has provided quiet a strong security layer to right-wing populism which will hold for at least another election I'd say.

Nice to see AfD projecting at least slightly lower / similar than before-vote polling. Was worried there'd be the 'silent voter' effect again.

Not as bad as I feared. And 84% turnout. That’s a good sign.

Wow, those are some really accurate projections. Only Green are more than 0.5% off.
