Is it sad that I've booked the Friday off as annual leave, just to stay up and watch it?

I want to be up for every Portillo moment. To see those tears and their utter dejection.

i booked that week off for Tour de France. I'll be glued to my TV watching all these cnuts gets kicked out in the dead of night. Glorious stuff.

I saw a good point recently that due to the current FPTP system and make-up of parties, that left-leaning ones are always at a disadvantage.

Basically people on the 'left' have the option of Labour, Lib Dem, Green and SNP. That's 4 different parties where votes for similar areas of the political spectrum will be spread thin. Put this against the Tories who have had very few cast-offs in recent years (UKIP, Reform). It means their votes are all concentrated for them whereas on the left it's diluted.

I am trying to decide which one I am looking forward to the most, it's so hard to choose. Fingers particularly crossed for Rees Mogg. But I'm not greedy.
Something we can agree on.

Any one of Rees-Mogg, Braverman or Patel and its a bottle of the good stuff opened up, laced with some delicious tears.

Have you only just realised this?

The best one for me would be Rishi, imagine a PM losing their seat

Dunno I guess I never really thought about it that deep before.
FPTP is the root cause of 90% of Westminster problems. Keir Starmer and those at the top of the Labour party are against reform. Purely to maintain excessive and unfair control when in power, even though it would most likely end any chance of the UK being governed by parties such as this latest iteration of the Tories. Bear that in mind when celebrating July 5th.

Are the Lib Dems left-leaning? Liberals here are right-leaning. We've got a tradition of coalitions though (because we don't have FPTP), so there are parties to the left of Labour.

Yeah I've been against FPTP for years and I guess I did always see it as a cause of the problems. Does feel like nobody will ever try and change it though.

Think the Lib Dem’s are generally accepted to be socially liberal and fiscally conservative.

Braverman being turfed out would be best by a mile. Vile, vindictive hate-mongerer and would love to see her rotting in the gutter.

Best chance is a labour lib dem coalition.

It would only be fair, seeing as rotting in the gutter is a 'lifestyle choice' and all. Feck me I hate these bastards, what kind of a country allows these shysters to be in charge?

A lot of young and left leaning people also live in the major cities, so a high vote share from the left doesn't necessarily translate to lots of seats.

The system real is geared up perfectly for the Tories. It's no wonder Starmer is desperate to emulate them, it's how you win and maintain power in this country.

Yes. I cannot see how this is not won by either Labour or the Tories.

It's an Interesting seat.
Jason Zadrozny is standing again for Ashfield Independents and they got about 28% of the vote last time.

In theory Anderson should split the previous tory vote so Labour should be able to come through and win it but it depends how much of the Ashfield Independents vote returns to them.

Looks like a hard one to call?

Braverman losing her seat would be the sweetest
She is awful but there is something about Rees Mogg's insufferable smugness that I find particularly annoying.

Still, it's a very target rich environment, I'm not going to split hairs. If it's Braverman who has take the dive instead, well I'm not going to complain.

It would be even sweeter if they all have to take the dive

But is weird that if things are not going to get better (difficult to get worse) that they do a snap election when they should exhaust their term to grift as long as possible

The second half of the year will be worse than the first half. The Rwanda scheme was never going to work so Sunak will blame Labour.
Small boats all over the summer. EU Entry/Exit system in the Autumn probably.
They know they're going to lose, get out quick.

So you are guessing that they are preparing the next 5 years elections blaming he labour 3 months after of their feck ups

The next five years are going to be very difficult for Labour. They'll always blame Labour anyway.
Brexit not working and more immigration under Labour will be their campaign for 2029.
I think they'll regroup and hope to be back for another 10/15 years in 2029.

Changed the Labour Party.
Turn the Page.
A Vote For Change.
End 14 years of Failure.
End the Chaos.
Rebuild the Country.
Any more?

Dunno I guess I never really thought about it that deep before.

I’d worry less. A solid 20%+ of the electorate don’t understand FPTP. We’re not taught anything about elections or Parliament in most, if not all, schools.

Labour are inheriting a mess and face a very difficult job, but I don't think the electorate are going to be switching back to the Tories in a hurry, not with their lies and corruption and how bad they've allowed things to get.

It's also important the electorate sends a clear message to the Tories at the ballot box that they have to change if they want to win back their trust, not sure they will, because they'll probably elect Braverman or Badenoch as leader and they will be just as awful in opposition as they've been in govt.

Infinite optimism

Why are labour going down the route with border force? We need better, schools, NHS, policing, and social service. Border is something that is important to small selection of the population.

Not only are they inheriting a mess but there are many other problems on the way.
In less than five years the public have gone from giving Johnson a huge majority and celebrating Brexit to realising that they've voted for a total mess which will get worse.

The Tories could go the far right route with Braverman or Badenoch or they could switch around - depends on how Labour perform and Labour haven't got ten or fifteen years to change things considerably.

That's presuming Labour don't get fecked over by the tidal wave of propaganda that is coming their way from the press.

They want to target socially conservative voters to win back the Red Wall. Blame it on First Past the Post.

Are you kidding? Murdoch has already approved Starmer's gvt or they wouldn't have a prayer a la Miliband and Corbyn. They know that every decade or so you need a bit of Tory-lite to please the proles.

The Mail, the Express and the Telegraph will do their bit.

My point is that despite our libel laws, during an Election there are many fewer restrictions on the media and the candidates, not least because most of our election law dates from the 19th century. Social media adverts (or lies) will play their part, as will the bigger budget of the Tories.
