Gary Neville - Pundit

Can't trust him to ever criticise anyone/anything where he has vested interest. He had United angle with the Glazers and didn't criticise them till near the end.

Ratcliffe was clever and got him involved in the new stadium/refurbishment of OT and regeneration of the surrounding areas early doors. You will not hear a squeak out of him. Him and the likes of Rio won't criticise where they have an angle. It's easy to blame the players (we see that anyways).

Why didn't he criticise INEOs for getting into the bed with Glazers. Or even the cuts they have been doing. Have no time for him!

I normally think Nev speaks sense and think he speaks like a fan most of the time, but he is so far wrong on the summer signings and it's weird he's singled out Yoro, De Ligt and Ugarte and how he's shocked how bad they've been.

Yoro has been Injured, De Ligt is our best defender and Ugarte is our best midfielder. He's lumped them all in with Zirkzee which is a strange take.
I agree with you. I also wonder about the criticism of the summer signings. Ugarte, De Ligt and Yoro have been sensible purchases. Especially De Ligt, if you ask me. While Zirkzee will probably go down in history as one of the more "unlucky" signings.

But it is clear that the summer signings have not had a big impact in a positive direction (yet). De Ligt has been good. Ugarte's performances have been up and down. Yoro has only just started playing. And Zirkzee has been a failure so far.

Neville 6.5/10 player 3.5/10 pundit. Whoever listens to him and takes his word as gospel are as deluded as him.

He's never logical when analysing United - his ability as a pundit is patchy if you ask me, but it's really bad when he's looking at United.
He makes a lot of huge statements for soundbites, but doesn't think critically about us at all. Carragher is far less biased and consistently makes good points
I agree

I never thought I’d live to see the day that Jamie Carragher is a better, more balanced, and pro-United pundit than Gary Neville… incredible really

Whether you dislike him as a pundit or not, the diminishing of his playing career needs to stop, he's one of the best full back united and England have ever had.

He started off well as a pundit but has gone down hill a lot in recent years. I think his issue is he's doing too many other things (running a hotel, Salford, podcast, overlap etc.). There's no way he's doing enough analysis before his punditry appearances and it shows. He's still good at live stuff and that carries him but his deeper analysis has gone to the dogs. It's fairly evident that Carragher puts in a lot more work than him.

6.5/10 overall in his Utd career is a solid score if the average is 5. Irwin was the best fb we had under Fergie and I would say he was 7.5/10 overall.

On a whole Neville is the best pundit in the game. Carragher for me is far too emotional, extreme and reactionary to many things - albeit at least he has strong opinions, and tries to back them up.

The best commentator / analysis was still by Andy Gray. Brilliant.

Honestly Carra was the only one saying cut ties with Rashford early on when everyone else was defending him. I think Carra does have good takes but tends to go off the rails at times. I’m a fan of both, I think people need to realize how much they love their clubs and it’s hard to put aside their bias and knee jerks like the rest of us.

Neville is unique among ex-United players in how much he willing to publicly mock the club. Hope Amorim is showing the video to the team to fire them up.

Thought he was pretty fair today... And as this thread is quiet, I'm probably not the only one!

You could hear him screaming in the background when amad equalised but he loves seeing us lose according to some.

Assuming he gave Bruno motm as well? He was glowing about him.

I think I did the same noise he made when Amad scored. Just remember he’s your average match day thread doom and gloomer when he’s on commentary for our games.

Utd fans are idiots when it comes to Neville.

Exactly. We all spout absolute insanity during the match, I’d be in jail if I was on commentary for United.

He was absolutely gutted when Maguire missed. Not even trying to be professional at that point awesome

Think he gets more carried away in the Liverpool vs United games because he has Carragher stood next to him. I remember him loudly celebrating Sancho's goal in the 2-1 win under Ten Hag. But if we're getting thrashed by the scousers, he'll start making up shit about Bruno asking to get subbed off.

Isn't it funny when we play well he isn't negative about our performance, and when we play badly he is negative.

It's almost as if it's our shit performances that causes him to point out that our performances are shit. We are 13th in the league and people on here are wondering why commentators and pundits aren't singing our praises as they watch us lose on our own pitch.

You have to remember, 1 game ago half this place wanted Amorim sacked, formation sucked, etc etc…

United fans are really daft at times but then again we had the highest of highs every year and then a decade of shit

He can be negative when we play bad, but it is his coming up with random narratives (Bruno, Ugarte, 3-4-3, zonal marking etc. etc.) that makes him insufferable to hear sometimes.

You took that personally

It is typical of Neville though, to create a narrative and then repeat it forever no matter what the evidence is. Amorim is right when he identifies mentality and application as the major issues with these United players. I mean they failed miserably with whatever formation EtH was playing, so why all this focus on 343?

I agree, he’s doing a pundit job. I think if he didn’t play for united most wouldn’t really care.

ETH doesn’t get enough heat for the situation we’re in. I was shocked at the last few weeks with Amorim hate but that’s the nature of the cafe for as long as I can remember. I’m excited with the formation and think we’re just a January transfer finisher away from really turning it around and then sell and spend in the summer.

The winding up of Carra today by the rest of the panel - led by Nev was top level entertainment

He's got a very generic voice. If you see him commentate, you can clearly see the disappointment in his face and the excitement when we score. He's a Man United man all the way. feck, some of the comments from us in here would make you think we hated the club.

I don't doubt that Neville loves United.

I just disagree with nearly everything he says about United. He picks and chooses when to fight a cause i.e. unable to critique Ole, tame views on Ratcliffe compared to the Glazers, etc.

His support of ten Hag was infuriating. Wouldn't budge a bit.

He rarely ever criticise managers much, ole and eth both.
