Gary Neville - Pundit

I normally think Nev speaks sense and think he speaks like a fan most of the time, but he is so far wrong on the summer signings and it's weird he's singled out Yoro, De Ligt and Ugarte and how he's shocked how bad they've been.

Yoro has been Injured, De Ligt is our best defender and Ugarte is our best midfielder. He's lumped them all in with Zirkzee which is a strange take.

He's never logical when analysing United - his ability as a pundit is patchy if you ask me, but it's really bad when he's looking at United.
He makes a lot of huge statements for soundbites, but doesn't think critically about us at all. Carragher is far less biased and consistently makes good points

I agree.
I usually agree with Neville, but this was a bad take.

The problem may be that we added 3 defenders and a defensive midfielder to a team that only scored 57 goals in the Prem last season.

Reinforcements were needed most in attack and the one we did buy looks to be a massive flop.

Minds had already been made up once before those 3 had even played a game

De Ligt was universally written off by all the genius football panels before he even kicked a ball.

You will never hear a good word about him, which is a shame because he has been decent and looked the best out of the bunch of CB's imo.

They are all idiots. Scholes predicted Ipswich would finish 12th FFS.

Don't be fooled by the wannabe Manchester Mayor, he's as thick as your average footballer too.

In my opinion, of course.

Neville is a lot of things but thick as an average footballer isn't one of them, he's a pretty astute and succesful business man these days, a large % of his footballing compatriots pissed away their millions, he's getting richer by the hour

You're right, mine was a very uncharitable comment. Frustration at his ridiculous comments getting the better of me.

Fair enough, as I am not UK based anymore I don't see/hear his live comments on Sky, but he seems fine on his podcasts for the most part

Surely that would be Andy Mitten no??
Ah Mitten.

Just waiting for one of his classic articles about how "things aren't right" and how "signings are needed", with "the manager struggling to bed in his system" and a million other things that are Captain obvious.

Anyone who can't see through Neville by now has no hope.

'Supports' United by putting his name and image to countless articles which undermine coaches, although not if the coaches are his friend, players, although not if the player is English, the club in general and is allowed to do so by a large proportion of the fan base because he played for the club and must surely care about them because he's a local lad. He sows division throughout a huge and generally pissed off fanbase and makes bank off doing so. He cares about money a lot more than the club, that should be obvious to anyone with a pulse, and the irony is the only way he becomes irrelevant enough for him to be replaced is once United start doing well again. Everyday fans care much more about United when they are crap, journalists literally just admit it these days like in the interview with ETH, but if United can start challenging for things opposition fans aren't going to be interested in listening to ex United players talking about how great United are, that's not the dynamic that works. Media wants ex players slating their old teams because sheep fans can't see through the idea that they are doing to make content that sells, rather than because they care. The guy is the ringleader for a powerful section of the football related media that make current Man United players lives absolutely awful.

I agree with him about how shite we are. I also agree with him that our wing back issue is a huge problem. But when he used this team:

-------------------de Gea
AWB--Maguire--Lindelof--Shaw
---------Matic------Mctominay
Sancho----Bruno-----Rashford
--------------Ronaldo

As some measure of how we're getting worse, I disagree. That centre back pairing is useless. Shaw is finished. AWB was terrible. Matic was very good, but he was over the hill. Sancho is a prat. Rashford is a prat. And Ronaldo is too much of an ego maniac to fit him into a hard working team. He also said DDG was better than Onana, which he used to be, but by the end he was simply awful. The worst distribution of any keeper in the league, and he was being paid 375K.
Bringing up that team shows he has the memory of goldfish which adds to his poor punditry and match commentary.

Neville the pundit should be moved to the football forum, his biggest joy is shitting on us and hoping we fail.
If we somehow won the title next season I'm not even sure he'd celebrate.

To be fair, is winning the championship that special?

Well it's something we've never done before unless you count the old school 2nd Div title

It felt from the first minute last night he was sticking the boot in, I like the overlap but he should be nowhere near commentating on Utd games he's really bad.

Did you not listen to what he said last night, he was stirring an anti-Amorim agenda with glee, couldn’t keep the shit-eating grin off his face.

“This is on the manager”, “If this continues, can United keep him” just a couple of repeated plants.

United fans falling for this, or worse, jumping on the bandwagon and parroting his crap, need to take a good hard look at themselves.

He does have a few bait-inducing lines, but for the most part his football analysis is begrudgingly very good.

To be fair I am not sure what else he could have said last night. It was diabolical and everyone could see it, if he had pulled his punches supporters of every other club would be saying he was showing his United bias although they all say that anyway.

He’s quite good on the podcasts. I think it’s more relaxed and the others can call him out in the dodgy stuff he says.

The self-appointed Official Spokesperson for the club and for the fans.
Honestly, this new self-effacing, nebbish persona he employs now has made us all forget who he was.

He was a fierce competitor and the player that I believed embodied us the most in his prime. He lived and breathed United, and loved us more than any other player did.

Fun part is that he is most famous pundit right now and he is quoted on daily basis around Europe but at the same time, his football knowledge is extremely limited.

These type of fans deserve the team we have. No support or loyalty by these fans, they deserve the crap we are enduring over the last decade

I don't think many people find him smart of quotable on anything football related except criticising United or praising Liverpool(because they enjoy seeing United legend praising Liverpool) like they do with some football legends of the game, famous managers, etc. when they talk about random football stuff. I don't think many people take him that seriously at all, not even people on facebook, nothing he says is that interesting or smart.
