Gary Cahill

They could simply come out and say Arsenal have had a bid put in and rejected as it undervalues their player and leave it at that, nobody would moan and complain. That way they would get it out in the open Arsenal has made an offer and get some interest in their player, if that is what they want. What is the need for the Bolton chairman to make those comments on twitter and their coach to call the bid beyond derisory or say it wasn't even close. Who the hell is he to decide what we should bid, if he doesn't accept the offer say no and leave it at that. When you start taking cheap shots in the press that is just poor and pathetic really. More chance of Arsenal leaving Cahill and going elsewhere like Everton than anything else.

I have not stated it is wrong for them to get the max they can for the player, so why are you pointing the Fabregas bid out to me?

And finally what has Wenger's comments about Bolton in the past got to do with anything? Nobody is saying they owe us anything
If you'd read my post you'd see I wasn't defending the slurs from garside but it's a clubs right to go public

It's incredible (but typical) that arsenal fans are whinging given that they have gone public on other teams players In the past - see wenger on hazard

United pulled a masterstroke by going public about the Rooney contract issue

the player is well worth 15m or at least 12m with add-ons - just pay it you tight feckers. You'll end up regretting your stupid negotiating as in the Fulham keeper fiasco. Embarassing.

Well my fellow Gooners - very philosophical

What are you gonna say should Liverpool nip in with a £12 million and take him

just like Smalling, Schwarzer, Haangarland and I hear Jones as well and I bet a few others too

Fsakes - It's not as if we are like 9/10 years ago and are looking for cover for great defenders we already have - we dont fking have any and this position is an absolute pivotal one in respect of our goals against column

Pay them some decent money and get it fking done for chrissakes

They can go public I have no problem with that and I haven't said otherwise. Where has Wenger gone public with Hazard?

A good thing you aren't negotiating our transfers, having a fecking a laugh if you think he is worth £15mill with a year left on his contract. This is Gary Cahill we are talking about not bloody Vidic

Bolton manager practically saying Cahill head as been turned hence his performance today.

Arsenal Bolton Gary Cahill improved offer £12m - Transfer News - MirrorFootball.co.uk

Arsenal will this week land Bolton star Gary Cahill – despite the ill-feeling between the clubs.

The Gunners will go in with a fresh *£12million bid which could rise to around£15m with any international and club *honours won by *Cahill over the course of a five-year contract.

And the indications are that Cahill will be an Arsenal *player before the transfer *window closes as Wenger is determined to bolster his defence with a player of proven Premier League experience.

The bad blood between the clubs spilled over on Friday when Trotters chairman Phil Garside retweeted a fan’s *message: “Are you taking the p***?” £6m for Gary Cahill – f*** right off!”

Gartside later deleted the post, but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger responded by saying the offer was more.

Meanwhile, the Gunners are on the brink of landing long-time target Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila for £10m.

Rennes are reluctant to *release the 21-year-old, who has made a huge impact in France, but the lure of playing for Wenger may be too strong.

But one position that does not need to be filled is *goalkeeper after Wojciech Szczesny’s emergence as a class performer this season

There was a clamour for Wenger to bring a new man, but he had faith in the 19-year-old Pole – and feels he has been vindicated.

Wenger said: “We care about opinions, but at the end of the day you must make decisions.”

Arsenal just need to bite the bullet and go get Cahill before other clubs go in for him. He could massively improve that Arsenal team and could be the difference between finishing inside our outside the top 4

Now I'm not remotely qualified to talk about transfer dealings, but someone mentioned (maybe jokingly) in the match thread that the state of Arsenal's back line in today's match could leave them susceptible to paying an inflated price out of desperation. I could certainly see that having an effect.

Also possibly worth mentioning is the fact that Bolton play United next. After our performance today, could they use that as an excuse to cling to Cahill a little tighter to screw Arsenal out of a little bit more money or am I talking out of my arse?

He needs two quality defenders. He should get in both Vertonghen and Cahill. That would sort out cover for Vermalaen, the leadership problem at the back and cover for left back.

Agreed. They need two players of quality at the back. Arsenal need to stop fecking about and meet Bolton's asking price and keep moving. They are quibbling over 4 million at the fag end of the transfer window as their season goes down the drain.

£7mil is the fee being touted today.

We're well stocked but that's a bargain.

Arsenal would be mad to pass him up at that price. Ditto Liverpool, Spurs and possibly even City.

They are mad to sell him at £7 mill - even with 6 months left of his contract. In their current situation - he is probably their best bet to avoid relegation - and they need him and P.L football next season, a lot more than £7 million

Forget the rest, I'd be delighted if we signed him.

You would.

I agree to a degree. He's built up to be better than he is. But that doesn't change the fact he's a very good player. Plus he's English, cheap and only 25.

I can't see Rio carrying on and he's not been great when he has played this season.

Good player. we dont need him though. At 7mil, a lot of teams should be in for him i feel. Chelsea too should try.

I don't think he's that much better than Evans (when he's on-form) and both Jones and Smalling will be far better players within a year or two. Given that you'd think Vidic had at least a couple of years before he started to slide, we're well covered.

Will be going to Chelsea I would expect.

Next season when he's playing at a big club it will be interesting to see then if y'all still think he's overrated then.

Overrated beyond belief imo. Haven't seen anything of him defensively to suggest he'd be good enough for the likes of United, City, Chelsea etc Nevermind being the answer to all of Arsenal's defensive problems.

To me he's just one in a long list of English players that the media have gone into hyperbole over and suddenly everyone buys into it and suddenly he's got himself a reputation as being amazing.

He's better than what Chelsea play at CB atm. Same for Arsenal.

Terry? Ivanovic? Alex? Granted he's better defensively then Luiz.

He's probably get in alonside Vermaelen for Arsenal, don't think he's solve all there problems though.

Oh right, in that case I agree. But it's hardly surprising, he'd improve any defence in the league aside from ours IMO.

Ivanovic Terry Cahill Cole

would be their best backline imo. They've been very poor defensively recently, would make sense to play ivanocie at RB i feel. Also, terry is on a downward spiral already. when he's gone, cahill and alex should be a good partnership. add luiz to the mix when he's improved with time and thats 3 solid CBs

Lescott's been improving steadily of late. If that continues, him and Kompany are going to be a very solid pairing. So, i dont really think he's improve city's 1st 11 so much though he'd definitely improve their options. We quite clearly dont need him. Would be a starter for most other teams though, i agree.

I don't rate Lescott much at all and I'd bet he'll start next season on the bench.
