Gareth Southgate resigns as England Manager

Gareth saw that the Caf was down for maintenance and decided to make a break for it

Let's hope he's secured another job before the job here becomes available again.

You'll all be wanting him back after the next tournament, when we go out at the quarters.

It'll be Potter or Howe probably if the media get their way.

The only one who I'd be 100% certain it won't be is Klopp. Apart from anything else it's clear the chap is bolloxed and needs a clean break from football for a while.

Well let's hope they make the right choice and we don't go back to pre-Gareth, players not turning up because of mysterious injuries and illnesses, not talking to the media, hating the fans and failing miserably. For all the criticism Gareth has progessed the team into contenders not serial underachievers.

Wait... he was manager for 8 years!? what the feck. I didn't realize.

Hes done the right thing and left before things went toxic which I think the potential was there to happen.

Englands second best manager, not a bad job, but think hes probably realised hes taken them as far as he can.

Don't fancy any of the englishmen. Potter has a blight on his name managing big names at chelsea and i dont think howe would leave Newcastle.

Poch would be a decent option if i got to choose. Dream would be klopp, id even give up my no german rule for him, but theres 0 chance of that happening.

Stepped down a few years too late, IMO. Did well to create a good environment and culture in the English NT again, with a fairly young'ish squad. Coaching/tactics left a lot to be desired though.

ETH best start the season of well. Can not be bothered with these links again.

A sad day for Welsh, Irish, and Scots everywhere. :(

Had he not started Kane, who everyone else on the planet could see had been running on fumes, he might have gone out with a glorious trophy.

This is it in a nutshell for me - Southgate did a brilliant job in fostering a much better culture, but was simply too limited as a coach. If the next manager can build on the foundation he's left, the potential is there for England to take that final step towards success.

Thank goodness we announced ETH is staying - I truly fear this guy is Ratcliffe's choice as next United manager

Eddie Howe / Potter I reckon.

Greater ambition from the FA would be Klopp but doubtful.

Deserved to go. Handed some of the most technical and attack minded players England have produced and decided to play low block cautious football.

They'll just replace him with some other mediocre English coach like Potter. The only two English coaches who should even be considered are Howe and O'Neil and I'm not sure either of them are cut out to lead England to trophies. The football would be better though.

The reality is, if England want the best chance of winning silverware then a foreign coach is needed. Just not Poch.
