1. Why would Bale want to leave?
2. Why would Madrid want to sell?
3. Why would we want to spend upwards of £90m on an attacker when our defence is quite obviously our Achilles' heel.
4. This transfer rumour is absolute nonsense -- at best, Bale will use it to garner a more lucrative contract, ala Ronaldo.
5. Facht.

Nail(s) on the head. Can't believe so many people have been talking about this and giving it creedence. It was pretty much all I heard people talking about on Friday.

Our transfers have been too horizontally lazy. We reach for an exciting central player over and over (RVP, Kagawa, Mata, Falcao) and then we don't have any wingers. I'm becoming more and more proponent of not splurging for Falcao, have Rooney play centrally in attack either behind RVP or ahead of Mata, Di Maria on the left (a bit narrower than a normal winger), a new signing on the right with the pace to stretch teams and then someone to compete with Herrera as the 8, and Blind and Carrick fighting for the DM spot.

90 Million is better spent on Bale than on the rumoured Strootman + Falcao combination. We have good enough central players (apart from upgrading Fellaini as Herrera's competitor at CM). We need a winger who can score goals from out wide and suddenly a bunch of our front 6 can play in the roles they should. If this was our squad next year, and all we added in addition to Bale was a decent fullback, I'd be ecstatic:

-----------------RVP/Hernandez/Wilson-----------
--------------------Rooney/Mata-------------------
--------DiMaria/Rooney--------------------Bale/Nani
-----------------------Herrera/Fellaini---------------
Shaw/FB1-------Blind/Carrick-----------Rafael/FB1
-------------Rojo/LCB-------Smalling/Jones------
---------------------De Gea/GK2--------------------

And then Young as wingback cover when we go 3 at the back, Evans and Mcnair as CB depth and Januzaj getting all the minutes in attack he can, along with any youth we promote or sign.

Ideally we'd replace Fellaini with a better CM and maybe sign a CB to start instead of a likely backup for Rojo, but for next summer, our first priority has to be a winger to allow our gigantic fecking swatch of central players to play where they should.

You look at a team like Chelsea and their squad is so coherent and logical. If they want to spend and improve, they'll sign a CM to replace Mikel, a long-term Terry replacement and upgrade Schurrle in terms of a goalscorer on the right. I think we took some big steps towards getting there by signing Shaw, Di Maria and Herrera. Falcao was a step back (in terms of organization).

Dream signing.

A real Man United player. Tragically we missed out on him.

Painful when a Welshman who's footballing is Giggs choose Real over us.

Surely will want to return to win the PL one day. The most prestigous league in world sport.

Ahem...

"Go to Manchester United? I am very happy in Madrid, a city, a climate and a club that I love," Bale said on the club’s mid-season tour to Dubai.

"My contract ends in 2019 and I could sign a renewal. I am very happy at Madrid and I hope to win many more titles in the future.

"It has been a fantastic year for me. I wanted to come to Real Madrid to win titles and work alongside the best players and that is exactly what I have done in a single year.

I agree, but imagine negotiating with Spurs for him. Deary me!

Welcome back.

Bale is an adidas athlete. Would this have any bearing what with adidas becoming our shirt sponsors? He'd be one of the major shirt sellers you'd imagine, and the club need a new face since Rooney isn't going to be around forever.

I don't think it's as impossible to get him as some of you are making out.

It's sometimes easy to forget that Madrid do not operate in a logical, sensible or predictable manner most of the time, especially when it comes to transfers.

For what it's worth, I don't think Bale is worth £120 million, but more in the region of Di Maria money (£60 million).

It's not easy to forget at all. It's been brought up by countless people in this thread as the seemingly only basis for this rumour to even exist. Madrid won't be selling Bale in the summer. Bale won't want to leave Madrid in the summer. End of story.

I love how you state these things with such confidence and gusto like you actually know it's true. Bravo.

The only thing we do know however, is that you, like the rest of us, are simply guessing. End of story.

I find this idea that Bale might be tempted sign for United because of our association with his 'hero' Giggs to be hilarious, as if he is some 10 year old boy with Giggsy posters on his bedroom wall. Bale is surrounded by footballing superstars and is probably arrogant enough to think that he has surpassed Giggs, so I doubt he gives two shits about him.

It's easier to predict he will stay than leave though. He's happy there, in a great team. He has no reason to leave whatsoever. It's up to those saying he could leave to justify the rationale. All anyone has to fall back on is Madrid's history of buying and selling players which is extremely flimsy in Bale's case, given his initial fee, age, and achievements for Madrid thus far.

Bale and Messi this coming summer, heard it here first.

Formation time!

De Gea
Rafael - Smalling - Rojo - Shaw
Carrick - Blind
Bale - Messi - Di Maria
Rooney
Bench: Lindegaard, Jones, Herrera, Fellaini, Mata, Falcao, Van Persie

Brb just nipping to the loo.

Christ, we'd get away with playing van Gaal centre-back with that team, he'd be significantly less injury prone too.

that team walks the league without serious injuries. and probably the champions league.

Bale is absolutely United material, no doubt, but it is depending on how much we are able to spend.

First CB has to be adressed.

I can't imgine us spending 50m on Falcao and 120m on Bale and still sign a top defender & Strootman.

I terms of squad depth that would still leave us with RB.

In the end I prefer Bale over Falcao in terms of age and that would bring us closer to a proper 4-3-3 where 3 strikers (RVP, Rooney, Wilson) in the squad are enough.

De Gea
Coleman Hummels Rojo Shaw
Herrera Carrick Strootman
di Maria Rooney Bale
that'd be dream stuff

Lindegaard
Rafael Jones Smalling Blackett
Mata Blind Fellaini
Valencia v.Persie Januzaj
the backups

+ Wilson, Lingard, McNair, Perreira, Pearson... to cover and develop. Maybe Nani?

Awesome thing in paper. But with Young showing this season, I would kiss Nani good bye.

You never know. I mean had Ji Sung Park still played for us, and I was given the opportunity to play alongside him, I would jump at that chance, even if I was making millions and winning trophies at Real.

Remember, RVP came to us after listening to a little boy inside. If a little boy on the inside can tell a player, "United. Go to United." I'm sure a footballing legend/icon/personal idol could do just as well, if not better.

Be interesting to know out of our last 20 signings, what positions and how much we spent on them, I'd wager AM/ST accounts for 50% of the transfers and probably over that in value..

The first three most popular articles on marca currently are:
  1. Growing tension between Messi and Luis Enrique
  2. Messi follows Chelsea on Instagram!
  3. Ronaldo and Bale have beef with Bale.
Says it all really. Two speculative articles and one's about a player following a few pages on Insta.

I realise that's a brainfart but seeing how much Bale seems to idolise and imitate Ronaldo, I would not be surprised one bit if Bale decided to take Ronaldo's side in that argument and give himself the cold shoulder for a while.

I'd bet money that he ends up playing for united. The way Real just throw out players for the new shiny toy is beyond a joke!
Look at Sneijder, Robben, Di Maria, Özil.

True.

A kind newbie helped me out @Banat

Imagine your clubs biggest problem being that he didn't square that ball

Rumours that he was booed today - and that his family wants to move back to the UK...?!

Boos wouldn't be surprising, the Spanish fans do have tendencies to be fickle, and Bale hasn't replicated his form from last season since returning from injury. Statistically he's been at the races, but the overall level of performance is lacking. Not sure about the last part but those sort of rumours will always circulate.

Didn't he score a cracker of a free kick today?

He should have passed to Ronaldo who would have scored, but instead he missed goal. Ronaldo shouted "puta" at Bale, and after the final whistle, Ronaldo stormed to the dressingroom. The Madrid-fans booed Bale in the end of the match, as they all love Ronaldo more than him.. So I guess the rumors will continue....

Ronaldo is a twat.

Guarenteed he'll be back in this country in 2 years. As good as he is, you just see him as the player they'll stupidly get bored with when a shiny new toy comes along. This is a club who sold Di Maria even though he was a shining star in that Champions League winning campaign last year. With all this talk they want Hazard, Reus and Aguaro there are plenty forgetmenow players out there they'll be after if they sell Bale.

That number 11 should have been his this year. Bale should have been at this club years ago. There's just something so Man United about him. He sits right alongside Best, Ronaldo, Giggs as exciting players in our history. He'd be so great for it, if he becomes available I hope we get him.
