Gareth Bale

I don't see any reason for him wanting to move. Or for Real to sell.

1. Why would Bale want to leave?
2. Why would Madrid want to sell?
3. Why would we want to spend upwards of £90m on an attacker when our defence is quite obviously our Achilles' heel.
4. This transfer rumour is absolute nonsense -- at best, Bale will use it to garner a more lucrative contract, ala Ronaldo.
5. Facht.

1 and 2 yes why would he leave, and why would they sell, but 3, United are in huge need for someone like bale. With no pace in the team, he would easily replace mata in this role. He would score goals and assist our forwards, and this would benefit di Maria. The irony is? we are not leaking goals, the unbalance in our attack is a bigger problem than many like to realise. The forwards we have are ageing, so someone like bale and another striker should be the clubs priority

If we need pace in the team, and I agree that we do, then there are cheaper options than Bale. We're not leaking goals, but we are giving away a lot of silly goals that a proper defence would prevent.

You're making too much sense, leave the Transfer Forum will you.

No idea why Real Madrid would want to get rid of him, but then, why should that ever be a reason for ruling out a transfer. Real Madrid are crazy.

And we do need to buy defenders, but who's to say we can't do both. Woody is a muppet.

Yes, yes, yes... and yes.

Before he signed all six players this summer there was a great interview where he basically in simple words expressed his ambitious anger towards clubs from Spain and their influence in acquiring best players.

He's definitely not about just showing FC Liverpool that we can buy better but also having financial ability to bring everyone available from the highest shelf... that also means La Liga.

If the club are willing to spend that much on bale, it's the clubs money, it's not making us any poorer or richer. I think it's great the club have got out of that 2009/13 model of going for quantity over quality. Is there many better goal scoring wingers than bale? I don't think there is.

I don't think the defence is that much of a problem, the unbalance of the attack Is a much bigger issue. I really do think a much more fluent frontline with the drive of someone like bale and di Maria, adding a much more controlling midfield, which is coming along nicely will help our defence out.

The defense needs to be sorted. Otherwise you end up like Liverpool 13/14. There are going to be games where your attack doesn't score that fourth goal. Sir Alex always set us up properly to defend each game. While the attack is a bit unbalanced we NEED our defense sorted. I doubt this rumor is true and I imagine Van Gaal already has his targets in mind and I don't think bale is one.

I dont think really would sell him so early but probably the only top 10 player we could get, a no brainer for 70-90m. 120m would be a bit too much. Like someone mentioned earlier with Adidas, hopefully they could play a role. Turning down Bale even if he would be a bit overpriced would be madness. One of the best wingers in the game and pace to burn, still only 26 while scoring and assisting for fun.

He is nowhere near worth anything like those numbers. Only players that good are Messi, Ronaldo, Suarez, Aguero. 70million yeah maybe, but 90m? Feck that!

A player's worth is very subjective. If our club decided to buy him for 90mil, the feck that should be directed at the fee and us fans should be bloody happy that we've got one of the top players in the world.

Will never understand the uproar over fees right down to the last million.

The biggest obstacle in signing Bale would not be the exorbitant fee but rather his desire to remain in the Spanish capital. However, if Madrid bring in Reus, then Bale becomes expendable a la Di Maria this summer making way for James Rodriguez. He really wouldn't have a choice but to leave which means advantage United.

How does this transfer able to go through w/o us getting into trouble with financial fair play regulation?

He's more marketable and likely would do better in EPL than Di Maria. 90m would be ok IMO, but anything above that will be overpaying.

I read now that they want De Gea in return, so they can feck off.

Marukomu could sign for Manchester United next summer if he could play football.

It's so hard to find consistent wide goalscoring that I think he'd be a phenomenal signing and worth paying the insane premium for.

----------RVP/Falcao---------
-------Rooney-------------Bale
--DiMaria-----Herrera-------
--------Blind/Carrick---------
Shaw---------------------Rafael
---------CB------CB------------

is to good to not score goals. 3 attackers you would expect to go 1 in 2 (at least), space for Di Maria and Shaw to attack out left and enough numbers in midfield with Di Maria being a quasi-CM and Rooney dropping off so much. We'd batter a lot of mediocre Prem teams with that setup.

And in Europe/Big Games, we get Bale as a counter-attacker. He can play the Robben role in Van Gaal's 3 at the back monstrosity/effective plan B. If we want to play Rooney as a 9 on the counter, we can play another winger out left or push Di Maria out wide and bring in another CM (Do we think Strootman is really coming?) or Mata or play both Blind and Carrick to clog things up at times. As slow as they both are, they can hit creative passes.

Bale would make us scarier against weak teams and be a very useful type of attacker we just don't have right now. I think it would even improve our balance at times (push less forward to create, other team's fullbacks not unmarked) which would help us defensively.

He's not my favorite player or anything (I tend to like Iniesta types and wish Guardiola was our manager) but I think he'd be fantastic here.

Citeh might feel similarly (especially about the wide goalscorer thing). Hell, Mourinho might too.

Don't they usually end up buying the players they de-stabalise though...

They usually end up buying whatever players they want. That's the brutal truth of it. But FFP may have changed matters.

I mean it in the sense he looks after himself, very dedicated professional - lives for the game.

Even still, a decent part of Bale's game is reliant on pace, and irrespective of how maniacal a player is about shape speed is usually the first thing to go and it goes fairly quickly.

Well that's that then.

Good, lets lock this Bale thread and move onto transfer talk that's related to January.

And regarding Real Madrid, would be nice if Woodward came out and made an exact mirroring statement about David De Gea.

The press will continue to milk this 'rumour' for the next six months regardless of how unlikely it seems to everyone
