Gareth Bale

I have to agree. I thought I must have been watching a different match or something as he wasn't that bad at all.

He was refusing to take on Patrice Evra for crying out loud. Evra has never liked players running at him. Yet Bale crossed or passed back.

I know I've never been Bale's biggest fan, and I've made that pretty clear.

But I didn't think he could be this bad. He genuinely looks like like he's trying to avoid any situation where he has to take responsibility.

I only watched the second half, but I saw him trying to take on more responsibility than Ronaldo.

James looked like a championship player tonight for the 60 or odd million they paid for him..and no one will say nothing about it!

We'd be fecking stupid to spend more than 40 million on him. One season pace baby.

You just know were going to throw down £80 odd million then be left scratching our heads when he's not the next Ronaldo.

Classic United.

I didn't think he was that poor tbh. He was having a go, which is more than could be said for most Madrid players.

Won the penalty and assisted in the away leg...Bale did what again?

lol no seriously, Bale tried today it just wasnt happening for him.

At least he was involved in the second half, Ronaldo disappeared.

He's clearly going to City. Don't know why no one is talking about it. Cleared of any FFP restrictions, going to go absolutely muppet-tastic.

He certainly not worth more than 45m....I would rather keep Di Maria!

Oh come on! They gave him like 4 sitters and he missed all of them!

The same people saying Bale is world class are most likely the same ones saying we should sell Di Maria. I don't know if I should laugh or cry.

He had 3 or 4 legit chances and he bottled every one of them. I don't blame him entirely, it's clearly a hostile club to play for. I just hope we don't spunk the money on him based on one season.

Still want him more than any other player

Like some have said, he wasn't bad in that 2nd half even though you could see the fans at him all the time, he kept trying.

Put him in the right setup (I don't think he'd fit in at (Chelsea) and he's incredible.

Carlo to take him to City?

I don't think he'd fit in with us too. He struggles against teams that park the bus.

His form isn't down to him being a shit player, it's down to things off the pitch. Struggling with the language, missus isn't happy apparently, wants kids to be schooled in England, he's not happy, team mates are egotistical tossers, Ronaldo on his case 24/7 and acting like a smacked arse, fans kicking his car in and people expect him to go on the pitch and start ripping teams to shreds?!

Bale didn't do that bad. He did about as good as a player that doesn't win the game for his team can. Dangerous shots, dangerous movement... That's not a bad game by any means. A little better finishing and it would be man-of-the-match performance. Let's be fair.

Very similar to his performance in the final last year. Missed a hatful of chances and without Ramos saving the day everyone would've been blaming Bale then. He deserved plenty of blame then and plenty now, IMO. Looked well below par.

I'd straight swap him for Di Maria all day. Great PL player, under ridiculous pressure at a club that loves a bit of drama.

Struggled against the wall of men. Would have been useless for us this season.

Everyone is basically ignoring this.

People talk like he'd be joining a Fergie United team.

Which one season would that be? The one season he scored over 30 for Spurs, or the one season he scored over 20 for Madrid, including winners in the Copa Del Rey & Champions League finals?

I'm not particularly clamoring for him either, in fact I'd be quite happy not to get him, but he was no where near the worst performer on that pitch. Madridista-style reactions in here.

Average skill levels, but in the right setting, his strengths could be devastating.

He will never get that setting in a possession based team which makes opponents play deeper and deeper. He needs space to run into. I'm confident this won't happen, Woodward isn't stupid enough to splash 40m on a player that we don't even need when we have Di Maria which outclasses him in every aspect. Not to mention Mata, Young and Januzaj and the recent signing of Memphis.

Signing him would definitely be one of Woodward's biggest mistakes which we will remember. van Gaal won't give up possession just to play by Bale's strengths.

Agreed, he's in very much the same situation as Di Maria and looks totally bereft of confidence.

Not sure I'd be overly keen to be honest...

He hasn't been good enough for Real Madrid this season, I'd take the chance on him for a fair fee but doubt that's gonna happen. Definitely think we'll sign him anyway.

Still do not want. Hope Madrid keep him. Mind, he was much better in the 2nd half. If he had more confidence he would have probably scored when he had that chance.

Terrible today, but I still think he can dominate the PL like he used to. I'd be very worried if another PL club got him.

Of course the problem is if Madrid get a new manager it'll hold any potential Bale sale right up, if not stop it completely.

Exactly!

Except Di Maria is very infuriating and he's not surrounded by a circus and a bunch of egotistical tossers. Fancy walking off the pitch, having a laugh with one of the WBA players at full time after THAT cameo

Still prefer Di Maria at United if he's totally committed towards the cause. The idea of spending 50-60 million on a player that is technically so limited is something I'm not sure about.
