Still prefer Di Maria at United if he's totally committed towards the cause. The idea of spending 50-60 million on a player that is technically so limited is something I'm not sure about.
You shouldn't be, because it'll probably be 80-90m. :smirk:

3.5 / 1 to be at Utd after the transfer Window, now their season is effectively over could pick up speed.

Another thing to add that if we did get him then you would image he would be here for the longer term.

Still I'll be surprised if it happened.

He's a fool for staying a second season at Madrid. I doubt it will get any better for him then what he did in the first season. He'd have been better off staying in England rather then being one of those glory hunters that supported Madrid just cause they tapped up 'big names'

Dunno where people are coming from saying he had a good performance, he missed at least 3 clear cut chances that would've won them the game if it had been Benzema, Ronaldo or James.

I still think he has it in him to be the same great player he was only a year ago but if we pay anything over £45-50 million we would be very foolish! Only other problem I have is if we keep the possession based style he's skill set will be nearly unless playing against a team who parks the bus every game.

Average skill levels, but in the right setting, his strengths could be devastating.

Good assessment. Sadly, that setting is not a LVG team.

I really don't get how so many people keep saying 'He'd be great for us', its like these people haven't even watched us play this season, or are just completely ignoring it because its Bale and he's a 'muppet signing'.

Bale is the next Sneijder, Robben etc. His face doesn't fit in that club. Doesn't mean he's not fantastic. He's still young and has an amazing amount of ability. Any club would be daft not to bid high for him.

I don't want him, not that my will matters but he's just too one dimentional for my liking. So unless it's for a cut price wich won't happen, I hope this is bollox. Oh and that ridiculous haircut annoys me no end.

I love how people keep saying "he'll be made a scapegoat" as if being out of form all season long doesn't warrant any criticism.

You can tell who actually watches him regularly and who just has memories of his time in England.

And José Mourinho is the perfect man to give that to him. ;)

If Mourinho wants to swing by Old Trafford sometime and give him a hug then I'm sure if LvG might allow it.......a bit of an odd request though if you ask me. :)

He seems to have lost something from his final year at Spurs.

It's the environment he's in. if he was back in the premier league, things would be completely different (whether that's with us or another club). He'd be up there with Hazard as best players in the league, and with that his confidence would be back. Hopefully it's with us - we need pace on the wings.

Perhaps. I may be imagining it, but he seems a bit less pacey as well.

In truth, and i'm going to get shot here.... Di Maria actually suits us more than Bale in terms of playing style. Di Maria alongside two strong midfielders, could be fecking devastating for us, still believe in him. Gundogan + Schneiderlin would be perfect for the summer.

I'd agree with that tbh. I don't think either are ideal though.

He was incredibly shit.

We should call the police if we decide to buy him for more than a 6 pack of Kool-Aid and Nando's bucket.

If we had a different manager, I'd be incredibly excited about a team like this:

Memphis--Rooney--Bale
----DiMaria--------------
--------------Herrera----
-----------DM------------
Shaw------------RB/Rafael
-----Rojo/CB--Smalling-
--------De Gea----------

with Mata filling in for whichever member of the front 4 is hurt, or being the game changer off the bench.

But Van Gaal would get mad at Bale losing the ball all the time and won't play Di Maria in the role he excelled at and teams like Barca (Iniesta) and Madrid (Isco/James) give to offensive players.

The above lineup, with the right DM and health or signings at RB and LCB, would tear up the Prem and could always be tightened up by dropping an attacker for Blind or Carrick in the 2-3 tough away CL matches and trips to Stamford Bridge and the Emirates.

The best way to build a team now is to have overwhelming firepower and then a more solid plan B. We're all plan B under Van Gaal.

We've only scored 61 goals in 36 games. I don't know if that will improve enough for us to beat what should be a stronger Chelsea side, especially if we downgrade from De Gea to a new keeper.

With Van Gaal, we're probably best off letting Di Maria or Mata continue as the RW option and spending big on the defensive needs, hoping for the kind of season Chelsea have had, winning games with defensive prowess and timely goals.

...Or who's just jumping on the bandwagon

I can't see him ever being as good as a peak robben. He simply doesn't have the technical qualities.

Bale's class at what he does, pace, power, shooting, directness. Is he going to mesmerise with his dribbling or passing? No, but not many players can do what Bale can. He is in very poor form at the moment, he's been poor for most of the season in truth but we've seen what he can do in the PL and I've seen him single handedly beat teams several times in person, including this season. If we can get him in the summer then great, rather him with us than against us playing for Chelsea or City. His performances for club and country this season are great contrasts, it's no coincidence that as the main outlet, and out of the Madrid cauldron, he's a much more effective player. People talking about our style... well our style for the most part has been utter shite dross apart from six games. Maybe, just maybe, LVG's tactics are due to the players at his disposal. Bale would be LVG's Robben at United I reckon.

Dont think there is a turn around for him unless they won tonight and he played well in the final or Rolando leaves.

His value is seriously diminishing, if De Gea had another year left on his contract, i wouldn't expect anything less than a straight swap at this moment, were De Gea to leave.

Bale is brilliant, I really really hope we get him. Don't judge on his performances at Madrid this season, he's playing badly because he's unhappy and he's unhappy because he's playing badly, but whatever the case, Madrid is a circus and not the right place for him. If he joins us I think a lot of folk will be eating their words like they did with RVP.

Bale didn't do that bad. He did about as good as a player that doesn't win the game for his team can. Dangerous shots, dangerous movement... That's not a bad game by any means. A little better finishing and it would be man-of-the-match performance. Let's be fair.
Exactly. One or two of those chances go in and the London media are jizzing themselves about Bale's mental strength and perseverance.
To me Bale just looks one big reassuring cuddle away from been fantastic again.

Lets hope it is LvG giving the reassuring hug instead of Mourinho or Wenger. I think he will struggle a bit vs teams defending deep, but I would rather us have him than any of our rivals.

But they didn't. Because he missed them. Because he was crap.

Similar thing happened before with Shaw's deal... http://thebusbybabe.sbnation.com/2014/5/23/5745764/mutv-luke-shaws-united-transfer-a-done-deal

There's also McDonnell on MUTV saying almost exactly the same thing with Clyne's situation now... http://mlsgb.com/2015/04/15/done-deal-manchester-united-beat-chelsea-to-nathaniel-clyne/

Not saying that i'm 100% convinced but as far as I know MUTV is one of club's official outlets... Still it may be just a hit or miss prognosis from a journo but I don't think they would invite them all to talk about the weather. Guess we'll see...

We don't even need him. If another English team has serious interest, then we can hijack the deal because they would win the title. But other than that, we don't really need him.

"The Shaw deal is done, it's just a matter of time." Which is nice. He'll also have Patrice Evra as a mentor, who will be staying with us for another year - so this should hopefully calm the fears that something had scuppered Shaw.

Hmmm. He is about inconsistent with his reliability.
