Gareth Bale

So, how was he? I saw the game in parts. His poor season still poor?

Hazard for me is miles better than Bale.

Sanchez cost like £30m. We looking at double for that for somebody who is out of form. Like someone said ridiculous we should overpay.

This season, both sanchez and hazard are better than bale....but do we place all our eggs in the proverbial basket that is Depay and hope he is able to hit the ground running next season.

I like bale a lot but he is not worth 100m. He had his chance and he can dig it out on the bench in Madrid for all I care. Spend the 100m on depay and pogba.

He is not worth £100 million in terms of footballing ability, but for the United brand, and for the sponsors he could easily be worth it, we just don't have that stellar stand out name really now, Rooney is to a point I suppose but he is certainly not what he was.

I do wonder about the £100 million though, would Ronaldo and his ego be happy for him to be sold for that sort of fee, great play was made at the time of his transfer from Spurs that it wasn't actually more than they paid for Ronaldo, maybe we'll be able to get him for £79 m

Think it's safe to say that Keano thought he had a shocker tonight. Shots have been fired.

We'd look like such idiots if we paid £100 mil for Bale, while Sanchez/Hazard went for a combined £70 mil and are both miles better

He'd still be quite good in a preferably counter attacking fast team where he is top dog.

Won't pay 100 million for him though.

We need someone who's good in tight spaces and not someone who can't absolutely do anything when marked or not allowed space. I wouldn't spend the quoted figure on Bale, not even half of that. I'd rather make the potential risk on Depay.

Poor today, did nothing of note. I'd rather buy 4-5 Depay than 1 Bale tbh. I wouldn't mind Depay, Dybala, Carrasco and Lacazette instead of him.

Technically, he's so poor compared to his teammates. It's like he is afraid of the ball.
He's just not on the same level technically as his team mates at madrid which worries me if we're thinking of spending big on him.

For big fees you shouldn't be getting an attacker who struggles in tight spaces.

Got even worse
Shame. His confidence looks gone these days.

I made the same argument last summer with respect to Sanchez and us overpaying for Di Maria and many pounced.

Anyway, i'd happily pay the 60 million we paid for Di Maria for Bale though.

So all you guys are saying is that he needs to played in an absurdly specific scenario, with other players playing a certain way for him to play well.

Well.. that just means he is not that great.
Exactly. £100m for that? If he were so good why are Madrid seemingly ok to get rid of him? The truth as already mentioned in this thread is that he is a level below his teammates in terms of technical ability. Pace and power are great, but what happens when that goes? You're left with a big expensive mess.

Shame. His confidence looks gone these days.

Especially when our whole set up these days relies on attackers being good in tight spaces.

As I say, I'd be all for it under Fergie. But not now, and especially not at the fee's quoted.

Bale would give us a threat in front of team and obviously behind them. We've seen Bale do well against Italian teams in the past so I just think he's going through the motions. Who knows what business we'll do in the summer, but I wouldn't be to worried about what he['s doing at the minute.

As I've said before, I don't think he'll age well at all.

Madrid seems to be sapping his confidence

lets not forget that while he relies on strength and pace he does have a lovely left foot

I'd say 40 million would be a fair price for him......

which means we will pay 75 at least

taking a chance as if the hamstrings do and he loses that burst of pace he's a much more limited player

Yes. Would be a cracking left winger in a 442 for 30 million.

Depay has a very high ceiling and I Think we've already agreed to sign him anyways....if Woodie wants a marquee signing and Bale isn't available , then Pogba would be my next choice

He's pretending to be rubbish 'cos then we'll get him for a quid. You know it makes sense.

1 bad season with 17 goals and 9 assists and he is shit all of a sudden? BRING HIM HOME! and by home i mean the EPL.

It would be good if he would even give us that. But unfortunately Bale has no charisma, nothing about him is appealing in my humble opinion. He might sell some shirts in the UK, but worldwide? Also consider this, would Real be so keen to get rid if he was making them a lot of money marketing wise?

Bale just let it go. It's not going to work for you at Madrid. Real can get lost if they think they are re-couping all that money though. Would still take him here.. He is better than what we have and what we will be attempting to get.

Just swap Di maria and Bale, and put them both out of their respective misery.

He was awful tonight.

That said, he was pretty damn good last season wasn't he? It's not like he's a million miles behind his team mates at Real, he just looks a million miles behind atm because his confidence is so shot. After all, if he was that poor then he wouldn't have been able to contribute in the way he did last season (or indeed rip up the PL as he did the season before that).

He's not worth 100m (unless we make an awful lot back off him) but lets not pretend he wouldn't massively improve our team either.

I agree, just like Andy Murray.

Bale doesn't unlock defenses he can stretch them. That doesn't work well when you're controlling possession in the opponent's half looking for ways to get through. His pace is great for counter attacking football, but as most have mentioned doesn't cut it for close quarter play making. Save 85-90 Million and buy Fakir from Ligue 1. Or spend a bit more and buy Greizmann from Atletico. Bale could easily be marketed at United but unless United plan on going to a counter attack style controlling 40% of the possession Bale doesn't really make sense at least at his current price.

Are you not the guy who who is straight into the Di Maria thread after every game proclaiming he is a flop and writing him off?

Bale was completely anonymous tonight. Completely out of his depth, personally I think he's worth £30-£40Million tops, and i'd still prefer Reus for that money. One player who did shine tonight was Vidal. He was immense. All over the pitch and made countless tackles and blocks.

Bale though, not for me. Do not want! Depay all the way.
