Gareth Bale Transfer Speculation | Done

Just been watching BT Sport and the bloke hosting the show was a bit cagey on it and wouldn't mention names but said that the speculation was that a bid had been made and that a large sportswear company were part of it.

Patrick Barclay said an English club had bid - they suggested it was United.

Journos have a habit of including wages in these massive 'fees', then squealing "£2790M IBRA FOR UNITED!"

G'luck...

"That is price Utd will have to pay as Real rivals move for Gareth"

Journos don't even have to use proper English now, apparently.

I'm going to put up a paywall, so The Sun will have to pay me to read it.

Now you're just copying what I did with your novels.

You cheeky monkey. No, not you, Gareth.

Levy isn't stupid. He is going to delay this Bale deal as long as he physically can. Make it as hard as possible for Arsenal to get a Madrid player out of it.

I don't believe those huge bids were made, with that I mean the 99m euros of Real too.. if we are really bidding then I think the origional offer of Real is much lower..

Don't worry yourself. Arsenal aren't getting any Madrid players, with or without Bale at Madrid.

You can go back to researching FM stats and youtube clips for random French Ligue 2 players.

Not sure why you'd want Di Maria, he's no better than Walcott. In fact I'd say he's not even as good as Walcott.

I don't agree with this, on his day Di Maria is a better player than Walcott but I think injuries has hindered his progress. If he can work to get to a better standard then he would be the better of the two.

That's true but I can't say I'm sorry we didn't sign Robben.

I am. If he hadn't scored a ridiculous volley against us at OT I'm convinced we'd have won the Champions League the year after Ronaldo left.

But if Madrid were to suddenly start selling Di Maria, Ozil etc. they are quality players who I would take in a hearbeat

Any chance of us getting Bale went when Madrid put silly money on the table. Levy is always going to want more from us than he's getting from Madrid and that makes this a no-go.

I don't think Bale would pick us over Madrid anyway, reckon he's set on joining them.

I fecking hate Robben so I wouldn't want to see him in a United shirt under any circumstances. Di Maria I'd question but Ozil would be a brilliant signing. Thought Moyes had decided against that though.

Maybe we'll sign the Bernabeu stage.

Levy would go absolutely spare if Bale said he wanted to join United. He'd be foaming at the mouth.

All about the money. If Levy is willing to sell, either to us or Madrid, then he has an amount in mind. Madrid's trouble is that they hit the media with their world record bids, but often their plans for paying that sum involve dribs and drabs over fairly lengthy periods of time. Don't Madrid still owe Spurs some money for Modric? That was nearly 3 times less than Bale may go for, so how long will Levy have to wait to recoup that money on top of what he is already owed?

If I was Levy, and I accepted I had to sell, then whoever paid the most money up front would be my personal preference. Speculating wildly that Utd make a serious bid of £80m, and we agree to pay £60m up front with the rest in add ons. That at the very least puts pressure on Madrid to have to pay more up front, and far sooner than they would like. So Levy maybe encouraging other bidders just to engineer a scenario to prevent Madrid being able to dictate terms of payment.

If that spanner's the works, Bale may then decide that he would rather come to us than stay at Spurs. Be the transfer window of all transfer windows if we got him after our other recent failed bids, but far more likely to be the biggest, most stand out failed bid of them all! Moyes must have a weird sense of humour to invite such speculation this close to the end of the window if he even has an inkling that we are not totally serious.

If we are in for Bale, then this is surely a scenario where we know what we are expected to pay before we go in, and it's the world transfer fee record. This is fecking big bucks we are talking here, Woodward might be on and all or nothing last gasp effort to pull this one off, and in my view his job should now probably depend on it. Considering the way the other deals have been dealt with - and all failed miserably- it may have him under huge pressure for his job already, especially if we don't sign anyone at all before the window shuts. Imagine how ridiculous he would look having to pay £25m for Fellaini this week, when we could have got him for £18m a month ago? Or not being willing to pay £25m and not signing him because he is now too expensive!

But joining the race for Bale is upping the ante again, what now for Woodward if we spend the last week of the window on this bid for Bale and it fails, and we end up with no-one?

I can't imagine in my wildest dreams, imagine United shelling out £80 million let alone £125m for one player. Uncle Malc would have a stroke at the thought of signing a cheque like that. Despite all the bluster about the money being available, we just don't seem to compete in the world of big-money transfers any more. Once upon a time, players would give their eye teeth to play for United but not so much any more. I can remember players forcing a move when they knew United were in for them (Rooney and Ray Wilkins are two bright examples of this that I can think of; others will no doubt mention others) but with European stars, we're not such a great draw.

Anyway, I think Bale will end up in Madrid, for better or for worse so why bother?

Unless we are serious, why bother indeed? Moyes could have just ruled it out, but to even associate us with a bid for Bale, especially considering how we have failed to land anyone so far, is putting a hell of a lot of pressure on Woodward to get something done. Over paying for Fellaini would be laughable, not getting him because we don't want to now overpay is bordering ridiculous, 2 failed bids for Baines, 2 more for Fabregas. Woodward had made himself look pretty naïve and failed miserably to achieve even proper dialogue with the clubs whose players we have attempted to buy. He has made questionable bids, read situations completely wrong, or has been mugged into reading them wrong. Whatever, he looks pretty clueless so far.

Why the feck would we now look to throw our hat in the ring with Madrid so late in the day? It just raises expectation and puts further pressure on the manager and CE to bring whoever they target in and quickly. Unless we are totally serious and Moyes has now demanded they pay what it takes, - which I find unlikely- it makes no sense to simply put in another inadequate bid that is doomed to fail. It will just be too big a failure -especially when added to the others- for Woodward to keep his job with any credibility left.
