Gareth Bale Transfer Speculation | Done

You are right, you didn't say don't discuss. Anyhow, you know my position on it. We have a finite sum of money to spend so it matters to me. In this instance I would be unhappy because I think we'd be ignoring other areas if we spunked nearly 100M on him.

That finite sum of money is actually infinitesimal. As it stands, we are not buying him and not strengthened the other areas too. Real are getting him, and even then have strengthened other parts of the team.

From someone I spoke to who works at Spurs, Bale wasn't particularly the sharpest tool in the box... he very often had to be moved by hand in order to get in the right position for certain drills/practices because he didn't get what was expected of him... a constant pain in the arse to do complicated patterns of play with - albeit he was always willing. Now obviously he's matured into a great talent but I do wonder that if what that guy said was true, how he'll adapt to the more technical and tactical nature in terms of attacking movement that he'll be expected to adapt to in La liga. Does he have the street smarts to live away from home and adapt with ease.. wonder if Madrid have thought carefully.

You should stop being friends with Phase of Play from RAWK.

Real certainly know how to unveil a signing. I hope they do their usual thing of letting a little kid "invade" the pitch and run into Bale's arms for an adorable photo op.

It's like a game of hangman, "You bid £94 million, build the scaffolding!"

Real will get him for sure. They always get their man. Even if they don't need him!

If we spent that money on Bale I'd think a lunatic was running the club. Just as I think a lunatic is in fact in charge at Madrid.
I wouldn't want us to spend it on bale either. That sort of money can be much better spent than entirely on bale.

If he fails, he'll be stuck.

Real's board won't want to sell for less than half of what they paid or else they'll look like idiots. And nobody's going to be stupid enough to pay so much for a player who's only shown decent form for a relatively limited period time.

A bit like what happened to Kaka.

I can understand why he wants to go, but I think it is too early. He is no Ronaldo and unfortunately for Gareth that is who he will be compared with because of the fee. Another problem is that Ronaldo is in the team.

He's not going to fail though, he's going to score a shit load of goals because Real Madrid are miles better then every team in their country - bar one.

You would think so, but if he take free kicks, penalties, as for that fee he might have to, they might lose the output from Ronaldo. I think it might end up causing them problems. Can't see Ronnie being happy if that happens.

You think the taking of corners and free-kicks is enough to cause major problems!?

They might share, according to the position of the ball. Doing it any other way would be daft, as Ronaldo is not the best in every position.

Miguel Veloso usually hits the free kicks nearest to goal from the right side of the pitch on the NT and that never caused any problems.

Even if we had got him from Southampton a few years back for a much smaller fee, who is to say he'd have made it here anyway?

His first few seasons at Tottenham weren't considered good enough for them, nevermind us.

Injuries to other players saved him from being transfer listed.

I think it will be interesting to see how it plays out. If they end up sharing FK responsibility and there is a gray area I can see problems.

Of course they'll share. They're matuer professional footballers... I think they'll be able to sort it out between themselves (Ronaldo will probably get the final say I bet).

I mean... we have RVP and Rooney standing over our Free Kicks, and you don't see either of them wanting to le.... oh. :nervous:

Bale's biggest problem is that in the modern era, the BPITW is judged by their goal output. That's mainly down to the ridiculous figures posted by Messi and Ronaldo, but it means that if a players influence is anywhere other than in front of goal, it's seen as much less important (which it is to some degree, in fairness). If Bale goes for a world record fee, that's the sort of level he'll be expected to reach - never mind that of Figo, Rivaldo or Kaka. But since he's not an instinctive goalscorer like the current big two, I can only see him being set up for a fall.

I reckon it's almost certain that he'll be seen as a failure by a significant proportion of fans and media before long, and I get the feeling he's the sort of personality who'd subsequently buckle under the pressure.

That's what I was wondering. Would Sir Alex tried him in a different position to FB? It was probably just luck on Harry's part that he turned out how he did. Harry must be jealous of hell. Imagine him being allowed to spend all that money.

He'd bring back Crouchy. And Pascal Chimbonda.

Thats a big if. Kaka had been injured and not at his best before he went to Real - Bale's career is on an upward curve.

He's going to be playing in a great side - his biggest issue is getting a game where he wants to play, rather than where they slot him in, but he has all the attributes to do very well.
